Good Afternoon!

**There is a information slip attached to your child’s daily sheet today! Thanks!

Our MACK this week is: Children will learn about kindness and the power of positive words.

K/PREK1 dove into the story ‘Leonardo and the Terrible Monster’ which focuses on two main characters: Leonardo and Sam. At the beginning of the story, Leonardo wanted to scare everyone, including Sam. Sam was upset for many reasons and didn’t appreciate being scared. At the end of the story, Leonardo made a decision: he would become a wonderful friend instead of a terrible monster. We’ve read this book several times and it’s a personal favorite of our group!

Afterwards, we had an open discussion revolving around three questions that I asked the group. Children took turns sharing their thoughts and how they perceived the two main characters.

K.RL.2.1: With support, ask and answer questions about main topics and key details in a text heard or read.

In PREK2, Miss Kim started to read ‘Mouse’s First Halloween’. They read the first page of the story and will finish the rest tomorrow in group. Before journaling, they answered a question about what they think the mouse will find in the story!

Miss Kim read ‘Room On The Broom’ this morning and shortly after, she gave children the option to come to the art table where they were given the opportunity to transform into scientists!

When children sat down, they observed the materials on their tray including: worms, vinegar, purple water, corn starch, baby oil, and other fall items. There were also several different mixing options and once children surveyed what was in front of them, they began mixing their own secret potion!

A few friends quickly found out that a combination of a few specific ingredients made the mixture bubble and fizz flowed right out of the test tube!

Happy Rainy Wednesday!

Today we had so much fun with movement and music. We always enjoy manipulating the shakers/maraca’s. We also had fun with the bells and small pianos.

There are several benefits to movement and music: Our friends can develop their fine/small motor skills as well as  their large/gross motor skills. They can learn to express themselves and their emotions and while moving their bodies, they can improve their balance and coordination skills. It’s just one of our favorite activities! Smile

Good Afternoon!

We all love a good, fun humored poetry session. Poetry allows us to play with words because most of the poetry either uses humor or the use of rhyming words. Children love being able to finish a sentence with the correct word because they know what’s coming up. I am able to authentically assess children and their knowledge of rhyming words based on whether or not they can come up with the correct word at the end of a poem.

The poetry book we read in K/PREK1 has hundreds of poems, with each page featuring a couple poems and usually a small picture. Children’s curiosity spikes based on the pictures that they see.

In PREK2, two opposites were discussed: hot and cold. Miss Kim had five pictures and before they placed them in the correct order, each child made a prediction about what picture they thought would be the hottest/coldest.

What a lovely fall morning for a walk! Children bundled up in search of colorful, vibrant leaves.

We had a specific purpose for the leaves so children got very serious about looking for beautiful leaves.

DSCN9300DSCN9304

Before our art extension of our leaf walk, Miss Annastecia read ‘Leaf Man’.

DSCN9310

After we finished reading the story, children had the opportunity to make a leaf collage! Take a look at them in the science area! Every collage is different and unique to each friend.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were excited about going outside and collecting the fallen leaves from the ground so we could make a Fall window collage!

Part 1:

Collecting the leaves. We had so much fun scooping them off of the ground and throwing them into a bag so we could get started on the second part of our fun leaf activity.

Placing the leaves on the contact paper for our window art! We talked about the different colors and shapes of the leaves and the texture. We also had a small conversation about why the leaves fall off the trees and why they get “crunchy.”

Happy Monday!

In K/PREK1, we read a story that was new. Most of it had never read it before so we started with a web on the chalkboard before diving into the story.

We observed the front cover which was a picture of a big pumpkin that looked to be rolling down a hill, close to squishing a frog and cat.

Using our prediction skills, a few friends shared what they thought might happen in the story. N shared that she thought that the pumpkin may squish the frog as it rolled down the hill. When we came to this part, Franklin raised his hand and commented, “Hey! N was right!”

K.RL.2.4: Make predictions about what will happen in a story.

DSCN9287DSCN9291

In PREK2, each member got to answer the question, “Who took the cookies from the cookie jar?”

Miss Kim read most of the story and before it was finished, Miss Kim asked the question. Children used the context clues as well as what they had read so far before answering the question.

The art table was buzzing with excitement as children from all ages engaged in art. Jack used a marker to create with while Sophia and Chloe added another element to their drawing. They used drawing books and chose specific animals to draw. Chloe was ecstatic when she found a horse page and she was quick to put marker to paper.

Happy Friday!

Our four kindergarteners had a sign in this morning revolving around the book ‘Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs’. We continued that conversation during K/PREK1. We read the book and afterwards, we worked together to come up with three important events: one that occurred at the beginning of the book (yellow strip), one that occurred in the middle (green strip), and one at the end of the book (orange strip).

We discussed the difference between the three words: beginning, middle, and end.

K.RL.2.2: With support, retell familiar stories, poems, and nursery rhymes, including key details.

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

DSCN9216

PREK2 friends put their artistic skills on display as they talked about characters and setting. After the story was read, they identified the settings and characters by drawing a picture under the word.

DSCN9215

The art table was buzzing with fall creatures galore! Our friends used playdough, plastic eyes, and bones to make their own scary creations.

Good Afternoon. I hope you have all had a great week.

Today we had some of our other friends have time with pounding the golf tee’s into the pumpkin and everyone loved it (again.)

We chased the rainy blues day away with some gross motor fun. We had happy children with bright, happy smiles when they saw Miss Rebekah bring up the trampoline.

X marks the spot! The X was added to show our friends where the safest and best area was to jump! We had great listening ears and we all had a great jumping time.
