Good Afternoon and happy last day of November!

“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and strength, use it to create.” ~Maria Montessori

Jack was engaged nicely building with multiple cars to link them together… “like a train.” He used his imagination to act out loading and unloading animals and a fireman doll onto the farm house and fire station activities. Along with utilizing his imagination skills, he displayed great fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills use by linking the cars together.

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 read the story ‘Laura’s Star’ and afterwards shared an ‘I will’ statement. For example, Anna shared, “I will help set the table for dinner.” After we all shared a statement, I told everyone that I was going to check back with them tomorrow to see if they followed through!

PREK2 children each pulled a notecard and Miss Kim told them what their card said. After some thought, they shared a present that they would give to said person. Children talked about the importance of giving.

I was writing daily sheets this morning and Chloe came up and watched. She stated, “I’m going to write my own daily sheets!”. She headed to the art table where minutes later, she showed all of us the daily sheets that she had completed!

Grady, Max, and David came outside early to help me shovel paths for everyone. They were a big help to the classroom and worked extremely hard.

Good afternoon.

“Development is a series of rebirths.” ~Maria Montessori

This morning Miss Rebekah had our friends really excited about music and movement. She played interactive songs for us to move our bodies too! Some of the movements were dancing and then freezing our bodies until the music started to play once again, and others were all about listening closely to what the musical narrator was telling us to do with our bodies. We all had a big happy reaction when he told us to stick out our tongues. Smile

Jack and his friend Evie decided it would be fun to interact with one another and throw a ball back and forth for each of them to catch. This activity enhances hand-eye coordination, socialization skills, and teamwork. They both had a great time and worked very well together.

Good Afternoon. I hope you are enjoying your day.

We are all in the Christmas spirit in the Wee Wee Classroom. Today we decorated Christmas trees. We found out very quickly that this activity is not only a fine motor activity but a sensory activity as well. We used glue, colorful sequins, and red scrunchie paper. When we painted the glue onto our trees and then placed our sequins and scrunchie paper onto the tree, we found that our hands and fingers were full of glue as well. Some friends didn’t mind having glue on their fingers but some didn’t care for it all and decided to be all done. You can find our tree’s hanging in the classroom. Smile

Since it was too cold to head outside today, we decided to get active in another way! Miss Rebekah brought out the ever so popular and fun trampoline. We jumped by ourselves, with a teacher holding our hands, and we even jumped with a friend, all while listening to Christmas music.

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1: After we finished our story, we talked about being helpful in our current setting. Our older friends can be quite helpful, offering to do an errand or helping clean the art easel. We often talk about taking responsibility for our body and our toys throughout the day so the word ‘responsible’ is not new to us.

I asked, “What do you do here at Wee Friends that is helpful to your younger peers or to your teachers?”. It didn’t take children long to answer as they know exactly how they are helpful!

There was a common theme in our journals today: people! I saw people of all shapes and sizes but one thing remained consistent: we journaled about people we know and love such as friends and family! Our journal time provides an outline for us to express what’s on our mind or in our hearts.

DSCN9465DSCN9467DSCN9463

PREK2: After reading ‘Clifford’s Good Deeds’, friends answered the question, “How was Clifford helpful to people?”. Children had to listen to the story to be able to answer the question as there were several different events where Clifford lent a helping hand.

DSCN9452DSCN9454

We decorated our environment for the next holiday! Max headed to the table where he made a holiday chain to display in the classroom. This activity was a popular one because several other different friends came to the table to construct their own holiday chain.

DSCN9412DSCN9418

The term ‘busy’ couldn’t even describe the art table this morning. There were no seats left for most of the morning! Children worked on their own projects or collaborated with their peers. Lucy and a few friends worked together to make a picnic blanket out of paper and marker!

DSCN9424DSCN9428

We switched out our bin of books towards the back of the house which immediately increased our curiosity. There is nothing better than exploring a new book with a friend.

Fun fact of the day: People born blind use the same facial expressions as sighted people when expressing emotions, meaning that our facial expressions are innate and not learned behavior.

Happy Monday!

**Now until Christmas break goes fairly quickly so just a reminder that we need to have updated shot records for your child by January 7th, 2019.

We hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving weekend!

________________________________________________________________

K/PREK1: This week, we’re discussing ways that we can be a responsible member of our family as well as a responsible member of a group. Today, we read ‘Clifford’s Good Deeds’ and before we started, we talked about what a ‘deed’ is. Lucy shared, “It’s when you help someone!”. Throughout the story, we noted the ways that Clifford was choosing to make a responsible, helpful choice.

After the story was done, we talked about ways that we’re a helpful, responsible member of our family. Each friend shared one way that they help and I dictated their response on the chalkboard. I asked, “Why is it important that you help your mom and dad around the house?”. Lucy thought about it and raised her hand: “So that our parents know that we appreciate them.”

PREK2: After reading Ribbon Rescue, children discussed Jillian and how she became a great helper to the people she knew. As different acquaintances were on their way to a wedding, Jillian helped them with different tasks. All of these tasks required ribbons that she was wearing in her hair so at the end of the story, she had no ribbons left but had helped the people around her. All members of the group wrote their name under ‘sharing her ribbons’ after they discussed the question!

Happy Snowy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic Holiday weekend.

Please Note: WF will be closed for our annual Christmas vacation break on Monday December 24th through January 4th. We will re-open on January 7th, 2019.

“The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, the children are working as if I did not exist.” ~Maria Montessori

Our friend Jack was a busy little guy this morning with the gross motor big block activity. He devised a plan with Miss Brittney and successfully made it happen. He placed the two half moon soft star’s together to make a single structure, then placed many big blocks in a line to lead up to it. He told Miss Brittney he wanted to be able to walk along the big blocks to then jump into the soft star circle. After that, he decided to make a different pattern with the blocks and throw our fun “snowballs” into the circle while he counted each ball he threw. t

Jack demonstrated many different educational learning strategies with jus this one activity! Early math skills, color recognition, imagination, and working on utilizing different patterns.

Meanwhile in another part of the classroom, Miss Rebekah and friends read many fun stories. Including the ever so popular “teacher books.”

The two most exciting books Miss Rebekah read were, Five Little Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed, and Two Little Monkey’s Sitting in a Tree. These two stories are fun interactive books for our friend’s to really get into. Daniel and Evie both know these stories very well, and in certain parts tell teachers the words coming up next. They both very excited told Miss Rebekah “Snap, and (while using fingers as if to say no) No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”
