Happy Friday!

Wee Friends spent all morning outside!

Small group, which consists of three year olds and a few young four’s, took their spring trip to the farm! At this age, we’re really focused on allowing children the opportunity to become more comfortable around farm animals along with understanding the rules that we have to follow while at the farm. Members of pre-k/k group are expected to help out at the farm and complete chores while still adhering to these rules so this is great preparation for them! This trip also allows children to step outside of Wee Friends to interact with other adults and children. At this age, it sure takes a lot out of us!

When we got to the farm, we talked about a few rules that we have to follow. Children asked why we had to follow these rules. While at the farm, there are other children from different schools as well as several various farm animals so we need to make sure we’re taking every measure to keep our body safe!

We started out our farm experience by heading to the barn where we got the opportunity to hold baby chicks and a rabbit. We also were informed that we were going to have the chance to ride a pony! Talk about excitement!

Not every child took advantage of the pony ride (which is normal!), but the ones did that were very comfortable and enjoyed their ride!

While small group was at the farm, our pre-k/k group started preparing our garden for our vegetables! They helped Miss Melinda and Miss Kim pull weeds as well as moving the dirt around before we transfer the veggies next week.

Shaving cream is always a favorite of our Wee Wee’s and today was nothing different. All of our friends enjoyed their sensorial experience! We incorporated in paint brushes, cars and sticks for added enjoyment.

Our littlest friends work hard on utilizing their gross motor skills while riding the bikes during outside play. Bikes are everyone’s favorite activity outside.

Good Afternoon!

**Just a reminder: Wee Friends is closed Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day. Thanks!

In pre-k/k group, we read two stories before closing our eyes to envision the following question: “If you had all the money in the world, what would you buy?”. Our answers varied as our interested between children vary!

Our journals have been detailed and descriptive this week. Today, Max journaled about a rainbow that he and his mom stood next to while Maddie drew ‘Lucy and Anna and mi secret hidaot’. (secret hideout) Smile

Our welcome activity allowed children to work with letters. Children pointed out the letters that they were familiar with along with sounds associated with those letters. The first thing that they spelled was their name!

Happy Wednesday!

In pre-k/k group, read we ‘Smelly Socks’ written by Robert Munsch. In the story, the main character is on the search for new socks so this lead us to talk about what we need to have when we want to buy something. Everyone responded, “MONEY!”.

After we finished reading the story, we looked at the pictures that were on the chalkboard. The first question I asked was, “Which item do you think costs the most?!”. We had a discussion and children were debating between a car and a house. We came to the conclusion that there are some instances where a car can cost more than a house depending on the circumstance. However, we came to the conclusion that the house picture most likely cost more than the car. We went on from there, debating which item cost what dollar amount.

When we were done, a pre-k/k group member asked, “So if ice cream costs $3 but I want 3, how much would that be?”. Without prompting, addition was brought into our group time!

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

The art easel was open as children took turns painting on paper. They used a variety of paint brush sizes as well as paint colors.

We read books in group, to our animal friends, and by ourselves this morning. Our older friends pointed out letters that they recognized as well as sounds that they heard.

Other activities that we explored were building with a variety of blocks including small wooden blocks and creating at the wood working bench. Maxwell used large wood as well as small wooden shapes to make his creation before he painted it at the art table.

Happy Wednesday. We hope you’re enjoying your day!

Imaginations run wild in the Wee Wee classroom daily, but today Emma and Mack had a great time engaging together to make an even better imaginative scenario! As they were rocking on the chair enjoying one another’s company, Emma decided that she would apply “spray sunscreen” onto Mack’s body.  Mack, of course had NO problems with this and they both went to sunscreen town.

According to “livingandloving.co.za, there are five benefits to your child using their imaginations during play. Those being as follows…. Social development, Language development, Emotional development, Physical development and Thinking skills.

Next, Pascale used her imagination skills by taking one of the babies and giving her a blanket to keep warm in the dramatic play center. Daniel on the other hand used his imagination by placing the colorful wooden block stackers onto his face to see the classroom in a different color.

Good Afternoon!

Please Note…. Now that the weather is changing please bring in your child at least TWO pairs of extra summery clothes for their spare bin! Also, we will be having a PJ day on Friday, May 25th to kick off the Memorial Day weekend.

Life skills are an important aspect of a child’s everyday learning! Pascale works diligently on grasping the larger sized broom to help sweep all the pea gravel off the concrete path. She saw a WF teacher sweeping and  thought it would be a great idea to help too! We LOVE that our friends enjoy helping.
