Good Afternoon and happy Friday, I hope you all had a great week.

Today we had a great time making beautiful music with our small pianos. We enhance our fine motor skills while engaging in this activity and we can also start to work on our colors.

Arthur LOVES the reading area. He visits this space every day, many times a day! He’s also working hard on mastering going down the steps successfully without taking a tumble. He’s making great progress.

The habi-trail slide is always a popular activity throughout our days. Our babies are taking notice of the bigger kids and their ability to slide down and walk up. so they are following suit. Smile

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘Strictly No Elephants’ in K/PREK1 group. Two group of animals are discussed throughout the story: a group of normal pets (dogs and cats)  and a group of irregular pets (giraffes, elephants, and skunks). There was an animal meeting and they only let the normal pets join and excluded the irregular pets.

At the end of the story, we talked about how these two groups of animals are similar and different. Several friends made comments such as, “That’s not being kind!” or “They need to include everyone!”

Social Studies: K.3.6 Identify and compare similarities and differences in families, classmates, neighbors and neighborhoods, and ethnic and cultural groups.

Each kindergartener has one sibling and that was the topic of today’s kindergarten sign in! Mack and Evie had to write one way in which they are similar to their sibling and one way that they are different!

In PREK2 group, children drew a tally mark under their preference: do they like to play with toys or read books more. The results: 4 votes for toys and 1 for books!

Food. We love it! Veggies. Fruit. Grains. It all gets devoured.

One of the staples of our menu is simple, predictable options. For example, we always serve rice for lunch on Thursdays!

When we were reading our book in K/PREK1 group yesterday, the word ‘spices’ was brought up and Mack quickly asked what spices are. I explained that spices are used to make food have a better taste and flavor.

As I made our rice this morning, we talked about the spices that I use in the rice. Friends got to look at the spices and smell them.

Conversation starter for this evening: ask your Wee Friend what their favorite wee sprout is!

Good afternoon.

We have all of our new classroom pictures of ourselves on display! We were all quite proud of our pictures and were very happy!

Today we had a dance party to get our bodies in motion. We enjoyed Gregg and Steve songs as well as many others. We also added in bean bags to a song that gave us instructions on where to place the bags on our bodies.

Arthur loves manipulating the beads on the wall mounted bead board. He works his fingers to try and move the beads to the different areas of the patterns. All while enhancing his fine motor skills.

Paige was playing peek-a-boo during outdoor play today! She would run around the bench and start cracking up when Miss Marty would say, “Peek-A-Booo!”

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1, we read, ‘It’s Okay To Be Different’. We saw several examples of how people are different but before we started reading, I posed several questions to the group. For example, I asked Sophia how she and Mack are different. She responded, “His hair is curly and mine is a little straighter.”

After we finished the story, we talked about two physical features that we have which are hair color and eye color! We came to a few conclusions: friends with blue eyes and brown eyes were equal while majority of our group has blonde hair!

This morning friends dabbled in a fun sensory experience. We walked on the different textured stepping circles along with the liquid stepping squares. Friends were very curious about  the liquid moving while they were walking on the squares.

Good Afternoon!

We started off our week by welcoming two new friends: Adrian and William! We are so excited to welcome them to our class and can’t wait to round out our class for 2021/2022 next week!

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Today we kicked off our kindergarten curriculum! Mack and Evie started off the day by completing their first kindergarten sign in. Throughout the year, we’ll follow our FAB’s (Framework for Academic Balance).

This week, we’ll focus on the FAB:

Social Studies: K.3.6 Identify and compare similarities and differences in families, classmates, neighbors and neighborhoods, and ethnic and cultural groups.

DSCN0400

Everyday, our two kindergarteners will gather for K/PREK1 group with two older preschoolers. During this time, we’ll read a story and do an activity that ties in with the FAB for the week. We’ll complete calendar for the day and journal as a group.

Today, we read ‘The Skin You Live In’ which focuses on skin color and how we are different in that way. We all put our arms into the center of the group and noticed differences between us: like freckles for example!

DSCN0467DSCN0470

Our new group of PREK2 friends started their year by discussing eye color and how it’s the same and different between members of the group.

DSCN0455DSCN0456DSCN0454

Children had the opportunity to start an art project earlier today. Friends came to the art table where they observed themselves in a mirror, looking at different physical characteristics on their face.

When they were ready, they used various materials to complete their self portrait! We can’t wait to display them in the classroom when they’re finished.

DSCN0387DSCN0388DSCN0412

We rounded out our morning by spending time outside where children road bikes, used baby dolls in their play, and explored the sandbox!

Lunch– Whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce and shredded cheese, fresh cantaloupe/oranges, and fresh carrots/cucumber.
