Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week.

We had a great time engaging in a super fun sensory activity. Water and corn starch….. making what we call “goop” Friends LOVED it.

P8271727P8271724P8271725P8271732

Then a little later in the morning we were able to hear a lot of different sounds in and out of the classroom environment.

While we were inside, we were able to see and hear and see a lawnmower right outside our habi-trail windows. Some of us really enjoyed this and some of us weren’t as excited.

 P8271716P8271715

When we were in the outdoor environment we heard many. many more sounds. Birds, cicadas, sirens and crickets. Hannah and a friend put their hands to their ears so they could hear all the sounds better. Hannah said, “Wow, those are a lot of sounds.”

P8271779P8271778

Paige enjoys looking at our pretty yellow and black flowers. Hannah decides she wants to join in and feel and smell them as well. The flowers are a wonderful sensory and sense of smell feature in the outdoor environment.

Good Afternoon!

Community helpers have been a big topic with the kindergartners and in K/PREK1 group for the last few days.

Evie and Mack had to write a community helper after hearing a clue for each helper. For example, one of the clues said, ‘I am a community helper that delivers mail to your house.’ Both kindergarteners knew right away that it was a mailman/postman.

Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.

Miss Kim set up an art activity at the table this morning where children had the opportunity to paint on cardboard. They used red, orange, and yellow paint to cover the cardboard using a paint brush.

DSCN1408DSCN1412DSCN1433

James got to work outside pulling some weeds. Rowan was quick to offer assistance and helped him pull weeds. They made a pile of their weeds and made sure that teachers saw the work that they had done!

DSCN1470DSCN1471

A group of children made a large fire pit in the corner of the yard. Daniel spearheaded the ‘roasting marshmallow’ activity. Each friend grabbed a stick and they used a leaf as their marshmallow. When the marshmallow was done cooking, a few friends even blew on their ‘marshmallow’. When it was toasted perfectly, they put their marshmallow between two pieces of mulch.

Isn’t this the perfect activity for a warm and toasty morning?!

Happy Thursday!

Today we followed suit with Paige and her summersault body! Friends saw Paige doing what looked like loads of fun and they joined right in. How cute is this?!?!?!?! These could even be considered yoga moves.

Our two littlest pals are enjoying manipulating the balls. We have large, medium and small sized balls for all our friends to enjoy. This activity is a great sensory activity for the babies to get a feel for the different textures and sizes of the balls.

P8261602P8261603

Meanwhile, Hannah and a friend engaged in some gross motor climbing. The habi-trail ladder and soft star climber are two of our favorites.

Good Afternoon.

The outdoor slide was a very popular space to engage our bodies for some gross motor movement today!

P8251543P8251539P8251540P8251542

We also got our bodies going by climbing up the rocks along side the slide to get to the top of the platform. We can then slide away! Wheeeeeee!!!!!

P8251545P8251537

Hannah and Paige were enjoying some of natures beauty while being outside. Hannah enjoyed looking at the plants around the play area while sitting on rock, while Paige and her sister Rowan enjoyed looking at the mulch and feeling its rough texture.

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘I Say Ooh You Say Aah’. It is one of our favorites! If you haven’t read it before, it requires the listeners to really pay attention and follow specific cues. For example, towards the middle of the book, the author tells the listeners that when they see the color red, they have to pat their head.

We finished the story and moved onto a list of way that we can be a helper in the classroom. The four members of K/PREK1 group are the four oldest in the class so they have a lot of responsibilities when it comes to setting the example and helping out their younger peers in a variety of ways.

Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.

DSCN1238DSCN1241

In PREK2 group, children explored various rules that we have. They talked about specific situations and they placed a happy face or sad face next to the topic. For example, ‘steal toys’ had a sad face next to it.

Good Afternoon.

To begin our fun filled Tuesday we engaged in musical instruments. Maraca’s, shakers, pianos and xylophones were all on the top of our musical list. We had such a great time moving and shaking.

P8241426P8241421P8241423P8241427

We then engaged in a fun sensory activity. We absolutely LOVE to get our hands, finger’s and lets just be honest here… even our arms full of the soft silky textured paint. Smile  These works of art will soon be placed in our Art Gallery for you all to see and enjoy!

We then headed outdoors a little earlier today to beat the heat and humidity. We all had a great time on the slides, playing ball with one another, the sandbox and using chalk on the large chalkboard and on the ground.

What a GREAT day!!!

Happy Monday!

We rounded out our 2021-2022 class by welcoming Bo today! He fit right in immediately. Welcome, Bo and family! We’re so thankful to have you with us.

DSCN1151

We read, ‘Pinduli’ today in K/PREK1 group. After we finished the book, we came up with a list of indoor and outdoor rules that we follow at school. We chatted about how each rule keeps our bodies safe and why we have that specific rule.

Social Studies: K.2.3 Give examples of classroom and school rules and explain how each helps us.

DSCN1154DSCN1163DSCN1161

PREK2 group friends also talked about rules that we have at school.

DSCN1148DSCN1149

Children took turns this morning working with golf tees. We have a big black board with lots and lots of holes that are perfect for the golf tees. A simple activity like this works on several things such as fine motor skills and patterns when children choose to work patterns in their play.

DSCN1036DSCN1051DSCN1068

A large group of peers gathered in the corner of the yard this morning and played ‘teacher’!

Three or four older friends took turns playing the teacher. They talked with their younger peers about animals. A glimpse into the teacher experience:

Teacher: “Okay, Daniel. It’s your turn! What is something you want to write about a caterpillar?

Daniel: “It turns into a butterfly!”

Teacher: “That’s right! Grab your pen and come up to the board to write it.”

Daniel: Walks up to the board (aka fence) to write down his response.

Friends did this with several different animals. It was AMAZING to be able to stand back and watch the exchanges between peers.
