Reminder:  Wee Friends will be closed on Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.

Good Afternoon!

Today was a musical morning.  We began by making a beat on our drum while singing Old MacDonald Had a Farm.  Those of us who were interested, were able to chose an animal to sing about in the song.

Friends then asked for the See the Bunnies Sleeping song.  We began by telling Miss Bekah the animals we wanted to wake up and become.  A few friends then decided to go over to our animal shelf and pick out the animal they wanted to act out.

P5042167P5042172

We then engaged in a newer song called Slippery Fish.  We moved our arms like the octopus, clapped for the open mouth of the tuna fish, made arms big and wide like the humongous whale and made the point of the shark on top of our head.

Good Afternoon!

During K group, we played a Community Helper Bingo game. We took it one step further and when friends placed a bingo chip on a square, we talked about what tools that helper would need to do his or her job.

Happy Monday!

**Wee Friends will be closed Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.

We linked our kindergarten sign in to a conversation that blossomed during K group. For sign in, children had to come up with one job that adults have and a tool that they need to do their job. A few of the careers that children came up with were Veterinarian, Firefighter, and Construction Worker. As children were rolling up their mats during group time, children recalled what their sign in answers were and shared with their friends!

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

PREK2 group chatted about inventors and what they do! Each friend grabbed a toy earlier this morning and during group, they shared what tools an inventor would need to make that toy.

Happy Friday!

This morning we cared for our planted seedlings by giving them sprays of water from the spray bottle.   We counted them and found out we had 9 sprouts.  Nesta said, “oh my gosh.”

P4302082P4302085P4302084

We then engaged our fine motor skills to squeeze the trigger of the spray bottle with watercolors mixed in to spray the big piece of paper on the easel.  We enjoyed spraying the purple, pink and blue water onto it.  We also discovered that when our paper got too wet it tore a hole in it.We then enjoyed feeling the wet paper and ripping it into pieces and then hearing the sound of the ripping paper once it was dry. A few friends also helped clean the easel when they were finished with the activity.

Good Afternoon!

We’ve been talking about how things move throughout the week. During K group and sign in, we’ve been having authentic conversations about fast and slow and words that are correlated with both.

Today for sign in, we spoke specifically about vehicles. Children wrote down a vehicle that was faster than a given vehicle. For example, I asked, “What is a vehicle that is faster than a bicycle?”—several friends wrote down ‘car’ and ‘racecar’.

Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.

DSCN2711DSCN2709

During PREK2 group, children used manipulatives to race on various surfaces. Using the boards from the habitrail area, Miss Kim placed various materials on the board to make different surfaces. Children quickly found out which board allowed objects to move the fastest.

Franklin and Mack have been planning to build a dinosaur all week long. They were able to draw it and once the drawing was done, they used sticks from outside to make the outline of the dinosaur today!

Good Afternoon!

This morning as we were watering our seeds we planted last week, we noticed we have one tiny sprout.  Yay!

P4281955P4281956

We engaged in a fun and exciting water and sensory activity washing some of our toys.  We were given a sponge and a toothbrush to help us wipe and scrub our animals and cars clean.  We loved using our hands to squeeze and watch all the water come out of our sponge.

After the rain stopped and the ground dried up a bit, we headed outside to play.
