Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week.

Today friends were very excited to start celebrating Valentine’s Day. We engaged in several activities that our little ones LOVED!

~ Ring around the heart. (A heart was placed in the center of us and we sang to the the tune of Ring around the Rosie and walked around the heart in our friends circle.)

P2122465P2122467

~ Peek-a-boo. (Friends covered their eyes while Ms. Bekah placed our heart under a friends bottom, then we guessed who had the heart.)

P2122472P2122473

~ Hide and seek the heart. (Our heart was hidden in various areas around the classroom and friends would find it.)

P2122474P2122477

~Last but not least… We handed out all the Valentine’s that we received in our bags that we decorated. What a fantastic day.

Good Afternoon!

After we read ‘Stellaluna’ in K group and filled in our chart with the characters and setting, we gathered in a circle and began talking about equal groups. We did a few examples together and we started with the number 10. I put 10 gems into the middle of the group and asked how we would go about sorting these two gems into two equal groups. Franklin thought about it and quickly said, “Well there would be five gems in each group because 5 plus 5 is 10.”—this lead into some more challenging problems such as taking 12 gems and sorting them into three equal groups. We continued on and did a few more examples together.

K.NS.10: Separate sets of ten or fewer objects into equal groups.

Our kindergarten sign in required children to write numbers in the provided blank spots that made the equation true. For example, one problem read ‘16 > _____’. Using their knowledge of greater than, less than, and equal to, they were able to fill in each blank space with an appropriate number.

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

In PREK2, children talked about the terms greater than and less than. Miss Kim put colored counters into two boxes and after counting both groups, children identified which group was greater and which had less.

DSCN6056DSCN6059DSCN6058

Miss Kim set up a cooking station at the island this morning and on the agenda was peanut butter muffins for tomorrows snack! Children waited patiently for their turn to help either adding an ingredient to the mixture or simply stirring the batter before it was put into the oven.

Hello all and Good Afternoon.

PLEASE NOTE: Located on your child’s cubby is a list of the names of our friends that will be here tomorrow if you want to send in Valentine’s Day cards with your child.

We welcomed the radiant sunshine today through our classroom windows. It was a nice thing to see and somewhat feel.

We are gearing up to receive Valentine’s cards by coloring/decorating our bags! They all look beautiful.

Good Afternoon!

We added a third book onto our chart today and after reading, ‘When I Grow Up’, we identified the characters and setting. K group children are getting more confident in picking out the settings, especially if there’s multiple in the story!

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g., characters, settings, or events).

IMG_9743

Children came up to the chalkboard during K group and placed a number in the blank space within their problem. Sophia identified the written number as 12 and because of the sign that was written, understood that she had to come up with a number that was smaller than 12: 8!

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

IMG_9739IMG_9740IMG_9742

In PREK2, children took events that occurred in the story, ‘Hair Love’ and placed them in the order in which they happened!

Good Afternoon!

**In regards to the half sheet that was stapled to your child’s daily sheet yesterday: there are 17 total friends in our class (16 preschoolers plus Cassie loves to join in the Valentine’s Day fun)! Smile

_________________________________________________________________

We read, ‘Little Bear’s Big Adventure’ in K group and when we were done, we added the title, characters, and setting to our chart! We found that this book offered up several different settings so we made sure to document them all.

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g., characters, settings, or events).

DSCN5876

Before we went to journal, we completed a short activity that focused on greater than, less than, and equal to! There were two categories that we placed equations into: true and false. We looked at the equation and decided whether or not the equation was right or wrong. Once all of the equations had been put into a category, we counted the three equations that were placed in the false category. So, we taped a piece of paper over the sign that was wrong and changed the equation so it was right! Friends came up to place the correct sign in between the two numbers.

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

IMG_9727IMG_9728

Each kindergartener came to the island to complete their sign in which required them to place a greater than, less than, or equal to sign between two numbers. They talked through which number was bigger and what number the alligator would eat!

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

DSCN0019DSCN9991DSCN9986

In PREK2, children matched characters from different stories to the setting of the same book. Each friend drew a line from the characters to the matching setting.

DSCN0055DSCN0053DSCN0057

Friends got the chance to come to the art table to decorate their paper bags for valentines day! They used markers and stamps to cover the bag! We can’t wait to use them later in the week.

Happy Monday!

Throughout the week, we’ll be adding each book that we read in K group to our chart. We’ll identify the title of the book, characters within the book, and any setting that we noticed. Today, we read ‘Small Pig’ which offered up several characters and two different settings for us to chat about.

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g., characters, settings, or events).

DSCN9970

We gathered in a circle in group and discussed greater than, less than, and equal to signs and when to use each sign. At this age, associating the greater than and less than sign with an alligator mouth is easy for children to comprehend. If the two numbers are 10 and 15, an alligator is going to want 15 pieces of cake (an example) versus 10 pieces of cake so the alligators mouth would open to the bigger number: 15.

Each friend worked on one problem and placed the correct sign between their two numbers.

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

IMG_9722IMG_9721IMG_9720

In PREK2 group, friends got to choose one book in the reading area and identify who the characters were in that book. Miss Kim wrote down the characters that children shared on the white board.

DSCN9964DSCN9965

An art activity was made available at the table this morning. Children were given a half of a heart and using string, they painted the half of their heart. Once they were done painting, they folded their heart in half, making an exact print on the blank side. Once the paint dried, friends used scissors to cut their heart out!

Lunch– Whole wheat noodles with butter and black beans, fresh apples, and fresh carrots.

PM snack– Whole milk yogurt with graham crackers.

Good Afternoon and Happy Monday!

Our friend Paige is getting closer and closer to crawling. She is almost there. GO PAIGE, GO!!!

We dabbled in some glue and glitter art today and LOVED it.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we decorated a heart. We took a small brush and dabbed it into glue to then put the glue onto our hearts to then sprinkle some pretty red glitter onto the glued heart.  This is a great sensory and hand-eye coordination activity. It was so much fun.
