Good Afternoon!

For kindergarten sign in, friends had to use a pipe cleaner and three different colored beads to create a pattern! They used red, green, and white beads to make their pattern. A few patterns that were made were:

-red, green, white, red, green, white

-red, green, red, green, red, green

“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.  The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate. The broad education will, therefore, transmit to one not only the accumulated knowledge of the race but also the accumulated experience of social living.

If we are not careful, our colleagues will produce a group of closed-minded, unscientific, illogical propagandists, consumed with immoral acts. Be careful, brethren! Be careful, teachers!”

The blog post that’s attached down below is a simple idea of changing the ‘me’ into ‘we’. “It’s a small wonder, a miracle indeed, when they discover an aspect of “we,” often at first stumbling across it like over a super cool toy left in the middle of the living room floor. Even if it’s as simple as saying, “We are going up here now.” Even that gives me confidence about our future.”

Good Afternoon All!

Today more friends were able to experience and have fun with the 4 way tunnel.

Last week, the few friends we had had in attendance loved it so much, we wanted to have all of our friends have a chance to experience all the fun. This is a fantastic way to get our bodies in motion and use our cognitive skills to make sure we don’t bump into one another.  Smile

Happy Friday!

Throughout the week, we’ve used maps and globes in K group and today, we focused on attention on a globe! As we observed it together, a friend noticed the key. It had various markings and what the markings were. We looked for the lakes, rivers, and mountain ranges in different countries.

Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and gloves as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

In PREK2, children worked on subtraction. They used dice and subtracted the two numbers that they rolled.

What a fun and intricate fine motor activity this morning! Every single child made their way to the art table where they used a needle and thread to string popcorn!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we painted with “snowballs,” aka… crumbled up pieces of paper. We chose the colors of red and green to make our masterpieces. While placing the snowballs onto our papers, Adrian began chanting, “Dab, Dab, Dab!” Meanwhile,  his two other friends began saying it as well. It was a very fun dab party. Smile

Adrian is a HUGE fan of our loose parts activities. Today, he thought it was going to be a great idea and loads of fun to take ALL of them off our their shelf space and place them onto the dramatic play kitchen area.

Once he had taken them all off and was done engaging, teachers asked him to then clean them up and put them back. He was very cognitive of where they should go. He remembered where each one was placed before he had taken them down. Smile

Good Afternoon.

Today we engaged in our BIG tunnel and we were able to crawl through not one, not two, BUT four separate ways in. Utilizing their cognitive skills friends needed to  figure out which ways they could crawl though so they didn’t bump into one another.  They all did a fantastic job.

Happy December!

We continued to read ‘Here and There’ today which is a non fiction book about different customs and beliefs in various countries. During K group, we learned how countries view food and specifically, how school children eat their lunch and what they eat!

We learned that in one country, children are offered 3 to 4 courses at lunch! Friends eyes lit up when I read this part Smile.

When we talked about a specific country, we pulled out the world map and identified where that country is on the map compared to the United States.

Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and gloves as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

We are a few months into our school year and our PREK2 friends are really getting into the rhythm of journaling. Not only are they working on their letters and various aspects of language everyday in an authentic way but they’re able to match their drawings to the words they write at the bottom for their description.

One of our favorite holiday stories is Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. Today, friends used a variety of materials to make their own gingerbread house! This art activity really put our fine motor skills to the test. We used glitter glue to glue the materials down so children had to squeeze the glitter glue out onto their house which took some effort! Then, after they chose their materials, they glued them onto the house which required concentration since the materials were rather small! Every gingerbread house looks unique and special!
