Good Afternoon.

Today we engaged in our BIG tunnel and we were able to crawl through not one, not two, BUT four separate ways in. Utilizing their cognitive skills friends needed to  figure out which ways they could crawl though so they didn’t bump into one another.  They all did a fantastic job.

Happy December!

We continued to read ‘Here and There’ today which is a non fiction book about different customs and beliefs in various countries. During K group, we learned how countries view food and specifically, how school children eat their lunch and what they eat!

We learned that in one country, children are offered 3 to 4 courses at lunch! Friends eyes lit up when I read this part Smile.

When we talked about a specific country, we pulled out the world map and identified where that country is on the map compared to the United States.

Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and gloves as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

We are a few months into our school year and our PREK2 friends are really getting into the rhythm of journaling. Not only are they working on their letters and various aspects of language everyday in an authentic way but they’re able to match their drawings to the words they write at the bottom for their description.

One of our favorite holiday stories is Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. Today, friends used a variety of materials to make their own gingerbread house! This art activity really put our fine motor skills to the test. We used glitter glue to glue the materials down so children had to squeeze the glitter glue out onto their house which took some effort! Then, after they chose their materials, they glued them onto the house which required concentration since the materials were rather small! Every gingerbread house looks unique and special!

Happy Monday!

We hope everyone was able to enjoy their holiday weekend!

Since today is the last day of November, here’s a few housekeeping reminders:

*We need updated shot records for every child by the end of December. Thank you to everyone who’s turned one in so far throughout the year! If you’re unsure of whether or not we have one on file for your child, please see a teacher! Smile

*Wee Friends will be closed for Winter Break starting Monday, December 21st through Friday, January 1st. Thanks!

This week, we’re going to be diving into maps ang globes and discussing the similarities and differences between both!

Today in K group, we read ‘Here and There’ which is a collection of interesting facts about various countries and the way they travel, celebrate holidays, and view education.

Today, we read two pages out of the book that focused on festivals. After we read an excerpt about a specific country and festival, we grabbed the world map and located the country on the map.

An art activity was made available at the table this morning where friends could come and go as they please. Children used various snowflake stamps mixed with different shades of blue and placed the stamps randomly on a large piece of paper. Friends commented throughout the activity on where they placed their snowflake compared to where other peers did!

The rest of our morning revolved around getting back into our daily routine after being off for a long weekend. Puzzles and catching up with peers consumed our morning time!

We continued reading, ‘Freckle Juice’ in K group today. A few conversation starters for your K child tonight:

– Have them tell you one ingredient that was in Sharon’s recipe for freckle juice! See how many they can name from memory.

– After drinking the freckle juice, how did Andrew Marcus feel?

-Did Andrew get freckles after drinking the freckle juice?

Before going to the journal table, each friend shared one way that they can be a responsible member of their family!

Social Studies: K.2.4 Give examples of how to be a responsible family member and member of a group.

In PREK2, Miss Kim reviewed some FAB’s that children worked on earlier in the school year. Journal time is becoming one of their favorite moments throughout the day—they are becoming detailed in their journals as well as journaling about various events and people!

The snow and rain kept us inside this morning but we didn’t mind at all! A few of our older friends focused on activities that challenged them such as Ka-Noodle and 48 piece puzzles! Housekeeping was buzzing with two and three year old’s recreating a staple of our morning routine as of late: taking temperatures! Two children were taking each other’s temperatures on their foreheads and one shouted, “You’re 97!”
