Happy Friday!

In K group, we read, ‘What Happened to Patrick’s Dinosaurs?’ which is a fiction story about a brothers theory of what really happened to the dinosaurs. We thought their theories were very funny! (think spaceships!)

Afterwards, each friend had to the opportunity to add a singular or plural noun to the missing space in a sentence. For example, Z had to fill in the sentence, ‘I have one ________ at my house.’ She filled it in with baby sister creating the sentence, ‘I have one baby sister at my house.’

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

In PREK2, children worked with laminated pumpkins with various numbers of each pumpkin. They had to match the number to the correct number of orange gems!

Friends took turns this morning exploring the light table and various manipulatives. Mostly, friends took the toys and sorted them by color into groups around the light table.

The sensory table was made available as friends moved colored rice around the bin. Children used scoopers and different utensils to fill and dump the rice.

Good Afternoon!

In K group, we read, ‘My Apron’ by Eric Carle. Before we started reading, I read a sentence that was on the front cover stating that the story was from Eric’s real life and immediately, friends shared, “That’s a non fiction story!”

As we finished up the story, we moved into singular and plural nouns. I read the sentence aloud with two different options for the noun. For example:

“I have two dog/dogs at home.”

Children worked together to determine which word made sense. We chose the word that completed the sentence and tapped it in the blank spot.

Good Afternoon.

Today while playing outdoors several friends worked on strengthening their gross motor skills by doing some climbing.

Climbing in this particular area takes a little more effort and stability as it is an uphill climb and on large rocks.

Our friends ROCKED it out, and had so much fun reaching their goal…the top of the platform to get to the slides to slide down.

Good Afternoon.

What another beautiful day! We got outside a tad earlier than our norm today to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Smile

Nesta climbed all the way to the top of the climbing house and was very proud of her accomplishment. This is a great  activity to enhance our gross motor skills and our confidence level.

Good Afternoon!

Happy birthday, Cassie! We celebrated Cassie’s 30th birthday today! We hope you had a fantastic day, Cass!

We read, Duck for President, in K group today! We’ve been chatted about voting and the importance of it the past two days. Throughout the story, Duck went from running for the head of the farm to Governor to President!

Before heading to the journal table, each friend took their own counting sheet and counted to 100 by 10’s. They point to each number and said it aloud.

K.NS.1: Count to at least 100 by ones and tens.

In PREK2, children had the opportunity to use a dry erase marker to fill in missing uppercase letters.

We took the time this morning to vote. Children were told their choices, given a writing utensil, and place their ballot in the ballot box. Just like adults do.

We counted the ballots and in our class, Joe Biden was elected President.

After voting between Clifford and Duck yesterday to prepare us for today, friends still wanted to vote for Clifford! Smile

Happy Monday!

In K group, we read, ‘Stick Man’. Afterwards, we talked about how librarians categorize books in a library, something we had hit on during kindergarten sign in. We identified the author of Stick Man,  Julia Donaldson! We discussed how Stick Man would be placed in the ‘D’ section because of the last name of Donaldson.

K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center.

During kindergarten sign in, children had to categorize the following books by the author’s last name:

The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear—written by Don Wood

Up, Up, Down—written by Robert Munsch

Stellaluna—written by Janell Cannon

The Mitten—written by Jan Brett

They identified the author’s last name and had to determine the correct order based on last name!

With the election just one day away, we decided to dive into democracy at a level that our class can comprehend: will Duck or Clifford win?!

Miss Kim read two stories that revolved around elections: Duck for President and Clifford for President.

After reading both stories, we talked about a few characteristics of each nominee that would make them a good President.

Each friend got to fill out a ballot and place it in the ballot box!

Tomorrow, we’ll vote for the real thing! If you’re anxious to see how our class would vote and who we would elect, check back here tomorrow!
