Good Afternoon

**We are going to have a small Halloween celebration tomorrow afternoon. If you’d like, please bring a costume for your child to wear. Thanks!

In K group, we read a book from our MACK collection titled, ‘Just Ask’. At the center of the book is the simple notion that if you have a question about someone, ask them. Throughout the story, we met characters who had Dyslexia, ADHD, Downs Syndrome, and Diabetes (to name a few). Of course, the questions arose, “What is ____”. So, we read the page and then afterwards, chatted about the unknown word and explored the illustrations to try to answer our questions.

There were a few times when children connected their personal life to what we were talking about in the book. For example, knowing someone who is in a wheel chair. Children were very invested in the story and at the at, the author posed the question, “How will you do with your powers?”—ask you child what they said Smile.

MACK Week 9: Children will celebrate the differences and similarities that connect all people.

In PREK2, children played number pickup. Children covered all of their numbers with a gem and when they picked up a gem, they had to say the number that was showing.

Good Afternoon.

This morning friends engaged in a fine motor and hand-eye coordination activity. This activity also helps us with our color recognition. The pegs with peg boards are always a favorite of ours.

Happy Wednesday. It is so wonderful to see the sunshine today. Smile

Miss Tami bought some mini pumpkins for us to enjoy. This morning we did two separate activities with them and we so much fun.

The first activity, we sat in a circle and sang a made up song/tune about “rolling the pumpkin.” We then took turns with Miss Rebekah choosing a friend to roll the pumpkin too as we sang our fun, made up song. We then each received a pumpkin of our very own to paint and take home to enjoy.

Good Afternoon!

We started to get into the Halloween spirit during K group as we read the book, ‘Patty’s Pumpkin Patch’. Throughout the story, friends identified several exclamation points that they saw.

After the story was done, we read five sentences that were pulled from the story. We chatted about the punctuation that was used and read the sentences the way they should be read given the specific punctuation. I asked the group if they noticed anything about the beginning of each sentence and a friend shared, “They all have bigger letters!”—this started a conversation about uppercase letters/capital letters and how all sentences begin with an uppercase letters.

K.W.6.2a: Capitalization–Capitalizing the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I.

K.W.6.2b: Punctuation–Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

DSCN8155DSCN8149

In PREK2, each child was given three cards that had different numbers on it. Miss Kim drew a specific number of circles and friends had to chose what number card matched the array on the chalkboard.

DSCN8141DSCN8140

We tried to brighten up the rainy, dreary morning by offering a fun pumpkin activity! Children stood behind the pumpkin and put their arms through the arm holes. They chose two eyes, a nose, and a mouth and placed them (without looking!) onto the pumpkin. They came around to the front to see what their pumpkin face looked like!

Happy Monday!

We’re going to be diving into punctuation and capitalization in K group this week and today, we started exploring the three punctuation marks that we use in our writing and see in the stories that we read. We added onto our kindergarten sign in by identifying the punctuation marks and sorted sentences based on the mark that was used.

When we came to the exclamation point, a friend said, “Like if I said, “I love candy!”. Friends were quick to give an example of a sentence using specific punctuation.

K.W.6.2b: Punctuation–Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

DSCN8034DSCN8035DSCN8036

In PREK2, children worked with items and sorted them into the correct categories such as bugs, cold things, and food. They discussed what made the items alike in each category.

DSCN8025

Children were quick to come to the art table this morning to explore a sensory experience involving Halloween goodies, various colored liquid, and ladles.

The rest of our morning was consumed with reading books in various spots in the environment and building with wooden blocks before bundling up to go outside.
