Good Afternoon!

Our morning was full of fine motor work!

Emma and Sophia collaborated to make a color pattern using the pegs. As they placed the pegs into each space, they talked about what color they wanted to do next.

Chloe asked for the white tiles and pretended to make sandwiches in her sandwich shop! She placed the white tiles in a specific order to replicate sandwiches.

Jack’s fine motor skills were engaged as they connected small LEGOS together. The small LEGOS require quite a bit of fine motor strength.

All of these fine motor activities strengthen our fine motor skills which are essential for writing!

Good Afternoon. What a gorgeous day.

This morning we had a great time enhancing our fine motor skills coloring with markers in the outdoor environment. We LOVE to color and it’s even better when we can color outside enjoying all the fresh air.

We also really enjoying engaging our hands in using the tiny child sized brooms to sweep up all the pea-gravel that gets pushed up onto the concrete portion of our bike trail. Friends absolutely love the brooms.

Our Infants have their own style of engaging in play, and boy oh boy is it a fun one!

Today, two baby friends pulled many books off the book shelf, pulled many dramatic play objects off their shelf onto the floor and had a good ‘ole time doing it too! Infant play at its finest! Smile

Hello!

During our yoga session in K/PREK1, we really focused on our deep breathing. Several friends were breathing with a ton of emphasize on the breathe out. So we practiced together as we were in one of our yoga poses. We really got the hang of it towards the end.

I asked the question “What is a community?”. Penny was quick to share, “It’s people that share and help each other!”. After we worked together to define ‘community’, we added several community helpers to our web. We’ll extend on this topic tomorrow!

Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.

DSCN2826DSCN2825DSCN2830

The morning activity was focused around shapes. The following shapes were made available to fill in laminated shapes: hexagon, rectangle, trapezoid, square, and triangle. Friends talked with one another about the characteristics they saw in each shape such as the number of sides.

DSCN7038DSCN7070DSCN7060DSCN7053DSCN7042

Our dinosaur fossils from yesterday were ready to paint! Children used the three primary colors to cover their dinosaur fossil. There were a few different techniques that we saw that included mixing the three primary colors to make other colors or just strictly using the primary colors by themselves.

Happy Monday!

The FAB’s for this week:

Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.

Social Studies: K.2.3 Give examples of classroom and school rules and explain how each helps us.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In K/PREK1, we started off with our yoga session that was led by David. He chose ‘Superhero Yoga’ and chose two poses for us to do. As children are in their specific pose, they’re practicing their deep breathing. We quietly transition to our mats and get ready for whatever story we’re reading.

Today, we dove into ‘Wemberly Worried’ which focused on the main character Wemberly. It didn’t take children long to realize that Wemberly worries A LOT. First, Penny told us the meaning of the word ‘worried’. Children shared their worries or fears: “being around new people” and “starting a new school” were shared multiple times.

We’re discussing rules that we follow both inside the classroom and outside the classroom throughout the week. Each group member came up with one rule and they had to state if it’s a rule we follow inside or outside (or both) AND why we have this rule. We had TONS of discussions today that focused around rules and what happens when we don’t follow the rules. For example, N shared that, “If you don’t follow the rule and choose to run inside, you may knock a friend down and they may get hurt.”

Social Studies: K.2.3 Give examples of classroom and school rules and explain how each helps us.

DSCN2821DSCN2809DSCN2810

In PREK2, friends talked about specific community helpers and the tools they use to do their job. Each group member had the opportunity to come up to the board and draw a line that connected the community helper to the tool they use.

DSCN2814DSCN2817

Several friends sat down to interact with the morning activity that integrated counting, patterns, and number recognition. Mack sat down and filled his number tray with the correct number of blocks. He took his index finger and counted each block he had. Daniel used the pattern book and with the help of older peers, completed an ABC pattern using the colors yellow, green, and blue.

DSCN7003DSCN6999

Children flocked to the art table where they helped Miss Kim make salt dough. This salt dough was used to make dinosaur fossils which we will complete later on this week!

Happy Friday!

Children quickly found their name and chose a page of stickers. The stickers were placed in different ways on the black piece of paper. A few of our older friends took the stickers and placed them in a specific way on their letters.

We’ve been talking about the similarities and differences between all of us this week and today, children used various items to create their face on a piece of cardboard! Friends were so descriptive as they added various characteristics to their face.

DSCN6916DSCN6911

Mack and David gathered nature items around the environment to use in their art. They placed the leaves that they had collected in different ways and when they were done, they were eager to share with their peers!

Good Afternoon!

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

“No one is you, and that is your superpower.”

K/PREK1: Chloe chose two poses from the Zoo Animal Yoga chart. First, we transitioned into the ‘bear’ pose before conquering the ‘hippo’ pose. The hippo pose gave us life! It is one of our favorites so far. As we were in this pose, we practiced our deep breathing which really helped as we transitioned into our story.

We read ‘The Skin You Live In’ which focused on skin color specifically when talking about the differences and similarities between us. As I started reading, I had each child hold out their arm and observe it: the nicks, scrapes, and markings that they have which we came back to later on in group time. Franklin said, “Grady and I have the same skin!”—I had them both hold their arms out and we noticed different markings on their arms which make them unique.

Social Studies: K.3.6 Identify and compare similarities and differences in families, classmates, neighbors and neighborhoods, and ethic cultural groups.

DSCN6880DSCN6886DSCN6881

PREK2: A map was used as a tool to talk about people that live around the world and how we’re all similar! Even though people live in different places, they can do the same things. Each member shared a way that we’re the same as people that live elsewhere.

DSCN6882

Our new friends are transitioning very well into their new normal routine while our older children are doing a great job at showing them the ropes and helping them feel comfortable.

One of our new friends was at the island and a four year old came up to sit by him and asked, “Do you want a snap pea, buddy?”

We LOVE when our veteran peers take ownership of that ‘helper’ role!
