Happy Friday!

We spent the early part of our morning making birthday cards for Miss Annastecia who celebrated her birthday today. Friends sang her ‘happy birthday’ a few times and made sure to make her day extra special. We hope you had a wonderful day!!

K/PREK1 completed sentences during group time. I read the sentence and friends came up with an action verb to fill the sentence. Anna said, “We talked about verbs earlier today too!”. When we’re able to attract children and dive into curriculum driven activities for ten to twenty minutes each day, it’s much more meaningful because children are able to get out their ‘wiggles and giggles’ as well as using their imagination during play experiences.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs- Writing sentences that include verbs.

PREK2 added the first letter of their first name to make a new word! After they added their letter, they read the new words that they had made.

Happy Wednesday!

“When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.” ~Pinterest.com

Today was a fantastic day for other adults to read to our little Wee Wee’s. Not only did we have a parent reading stories, but we had a teacher from the Wee classroom read to a few of our friends as well.  We LOVE to read and it’s always a treat to us when we get different people to read also. Smile Thank you Ben (Jack’s dad) and Miss Mindy!!

Coloring in our journal binders was another activity we engaged ourselves in today. We showed great attention span while coloring many pictures, we utilized our fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination skills, and the recognition of  our colors.

Good Afternoon!

*Reminder: Farm fees are due this Friday, November 16th! Thank you!

K/PREK1 used their knowledge of numbers from 1 to 20 to complete the group activity. Each child came to the board and had to identify the yellow number that I had stated. For example, Lucy came to the board and had to find the yellow number 16. Once she identified the number, I then asked her to find the green number in that row that is one more than 16. She was able to identify the number 17 and drew a circle around it.

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

DSCN4700

PREK2 used turkey manipulatives to complete simple subtraction problems. For example, Miss Kim put six turkeys on the floor. After friends got done counting those six turkeys, she took two away. Together, the group counted how many turkeys were left. At this age, having something concrete, where children are able to touch and move, really allows the concept to be grasped.

DSCN4695

Several children came to the art table where a puff paint art experience was made available. Friends took brushes and brushed the puff paint onto the paper before having the option of sprinkling sparkles onto their puff paint.

We’ve been interested in money lately! Friends used the felt money in their play this morning as they told one another the cost of goods that they were offering!

DSCN4646DSCN4649

We used the chains in an unconventional way! While they were put out on the table to make patterns, friends decided to use them on their bodies! They helped each other make bracelets or anklets as well as belts that went around their waist.

Good Afternoon!

Reminders:

Wee Friends is closed Thursday, November 22nd and Friday, November 23rd for Thanksgiving break.

We will have PAJAMA DAY on Wednesday, November 21st. I’ll put a reminder next week too!

K/PREK1 read ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ which is a story we’ve read before. Friends share events that they recall before we read the story which offers a great authentic assessment for myself to see how many detailed events children remember!

Afterwards, we all held out our fingers to help us with math facts that were on the chalkboard. Before we rolled up our mats, each child was responsible for one equation. Lucy held out both of her hands and I asked, “Lucy, if I have five fingers, how many more do I need to get to 10 fingers?”. By using her fingers, she quickly came up with the answer of 5!

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects and drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

DSCN4636DSCN4640DSCN4639

PREK2 used their knowledge of rhyming words to create new words. For example, the first word was ‘cook’. Miss Kim took away the ‘c’ and friends had to come up with a new word which was ‘Dook’. After substituting sounds to change words, children went to go journal where we are all working on writing our names on the top of our journal page.

DSCN4627DSCN4630

We got all bundled up in our snow gear and headed outside this morning! While there wasn’t a ton of snow, it was enough to get our little hearts beating and our little bodies moving.

DSCN4624DSCN4620DSCN4621

Breakfast– Corn chex and fresh pineapple.

Lunch– Hummus on whole wheat tortilla, fresh apples, and fresh green beans/cucumber.

PM snack– Whole grain bagel with cream cheese and string cheese.

Wee Sprout– Fresh green beans/cucumber.

Have a fantastic night!

Good Afternoon All!

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” ~Pinterest.com

We started our morning out by engaging our minds in puzzle play! This activity has multiple learning possibilities for our friends. Using our hand-eye coordination, fine motor, and cognitive skills are always in full gear when we manipulate puzzles.

DSCN9919DSCN9924

DSCN9925

We then bundled up nice and cozy warm to head outside and get some fresh air and play in the little amounts of snow we had. Friends had a GREAT time! We can’t wait for more snow to fall, so we can build a snowman and have even more fun. Smile

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” ~Brad Henry

A request was made for our colorful see through tissues. We use these tissues in many different fashions. We dance with them, throw them in the air to watch them elegantly flow down to the floor, and we put them over our eyes to see what our classroom looks like through a sheer cloth and different color. Our sensory skills, color recognition skills, and hand eye coordination skills are all being utilized with this fun activity. DSCN9868DSCN9873

Daniel and Jack were very engaged with the number cake activity. With this activity they learn to coordinate the circular cake pieces to fit on top of another piece in sequence, from largest to smallest. They can also count the cake circles as they are placing them on top of one another. They worked very well together, displaying awesome teamwork. Smile

Breakfast: Whole wheat English muffins with peanut butter and apples.

Lunch: Whole wheat/grain butter noodles with shredded beef, broccoli, and strawberries.

Snack: HM zucchini chocolate chip muffins in celebration of Daniel’s birthday, and whole milk yogurt.
