Happy Friday!

Pretend play is such a big part of our day. Kitchen play. Housekeeping. Dress up. Through it all, social skills are learned through play. While the concept of ‘sharing’ is hard to grasp at this age, we try to talk about the issues we’re having during play. For example, two children wanting the same doll. We give options such as going to get another doll or waiting for their friend to be done with that certain doll. It’s all about options and choices Smile.

We’re so affectionate with our baby dolls!

All week, we have been enjoying watching the leaves fall from the tree in the backyard. Friends have been collecting leaves and having conversations about the color of the leaves as well as the smaller/larger aspect.

For quite a while this morning, we worked on filling up cups and buckets using our shovels. While we were focusing on the sandbox, we also observed the older wee friends starting a ‘hole’ exploration. They’re into digging BIG holes Smile.

WF Thursday 9/25 Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly!

Folks like us could never fuss
With schools and books and learning.
Still we’ve gone from A to Z,
Doin’ what comes naturally – Irving Berlin

045

A bunch of folks were seeing how far they could jump from a stoop to across the floor. We just did the natural thing and got ‘em outside. One thing led to another and we were on a walk trying to figure out what the REALLY LOUD sound was. We came back to the classroom and used our prairie flowers (from the farm) to create art.

Just doin’ what comes natur’lly. A to Z.

Breakfast: Puffins with pear slices

Lunch: Whole Wheat Cream Cheese and Cheddar Pizza, fresh cauliflower/carrots and strawberries

Happy Wednesday!

We are currently waiting on our new camera to be delivered. Hoping to have pictures for you soon! Smile

This morning while Saskia got to go to the farm with the younger WF group, Tate, Maya, Lucy, and Nahla had the option of painting in the kitchen. At this age, it is definitely about the process. The sensorial aspect of painting is very high at this age whether children are feeling it with their fingers or putting it in their mouth. It’s all about exploration.

Anna is about to take off crawling! She is always up on all fours just rocking away! While Anna is rocking away, Rosemary has been taking off! She’s walking all around the house now. She’s always challenging herself to do something new. For example, she tried to climb up the slide today!

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and cinnamon along with strawberries. Lunch consisted of brown rice, peas, and banana. We heard all about Saskias trip to the farm during lunch! PM snack was string cheese and whole wheat bunny crackers.

Have a terrific evening.

WF Wednesday 9/24 Wee Farming

109

Today was a farm day for our younger friends, ages 2 &3.  We love to have at least one trip each spring and fall with our youngest WFer’s to get them ready for regular farm trips when they bigger and can go weekly.  The goal of farm trips for this age group is to:

  • Let them become accustomed to how all of their senses are very stimulated at the farm.  There are wonderful and NOT so wonderful farm smells, a multitude of textures, beautiful colors, very bright and very dim light, the sounds of animals, bugs, wind, and birds, and generally, we are able to taste something.  Today, we shared a fresh picked apple from right off the tree.
  • Let them become accustomed to the farm rules.  There are a ton of farm rules for safety, well beyond what 2/3’s are able to follow without a lot of guidance.  We keep this group close and do a lot of talking about how to properly handle the animals and what things can be explored.
  • But, my biggest goal is for them to develop a LOVE for the FARM!

Today, I believe we met ALL of our farm goals for our young friends!  About half of our group was more reserved and hesitant to touch animals.  But with gentle guidance, ALL friends were active in our farm experience today and left very very happy.

Enjoy the pictures!

Ms. Frizzle: “Whale sharks never hurt people. They eat nothing but plankton.”

Elliott: “Look what book I found. It’s about the food chain.”

“All food chains begin with green plants. That is how they are all alike.”

“Swimmers! Board the Weehicle!”

“Anybody want to paint the bark you pulled off the backyard logs? Look at the sizes! Could we make our own food chain?”

Elizabeth: “We need green so this can be the seaweed!”.

Today’s chain of events. And throughout the rest of our classroom more chains of learning were were being linked. Sock on-pull up-shoe on-Velcro strapped-run outside.
