Needed! Clean (non treated wood) Sawdust Tomorrow

In Laurie’s blog earlier today,  she shared that the children are imagescurrently interested in how paper is made from wood.  Miss Melinda is going to lead the children through making some homemade paper tomorrow…from wood!  Please pray for my blender.  It’s about to get one heck of a workout!

We have a small supply of wood pulp from having the children pound  our logs into pulp.  A nice quiet activitySmile

We would love to have more pulp so that we can make more paper!

So any of you have a workshop that has a pile of sawdust sitting beside your saw?  Could we please have your sawdust?   Please, only non chemically treated wood.

Thanks!

Tami

WF Monday 6/30 The Lifecycle of an Idea

REMINDER: Wee Friends will close at 5:30 Wednesday for summer break. We will reopen on Monday, July 14th.

014

Mom to Sophie: “Trees make paper!”

Sophie to Sloane: “Did you know trees make paper? My mom told me.”

Sloane to Melinda: “ Melinda! Did you know trees make paper?”

Elizabeth: “I knew that! I saw it on Cat in the Hat!”

Melinda: “Would you like to MAKE paper?”

Emma: “Me too! Me too!”

020

We explored textures of different paper and we took turns chopping soft wood to use to create new paper.

026

The lifecycles of ideas in child initiated learning environment are not conventional. They last as long as our friends have interest.  Our friends have expressed great excitement in the scientific sensory exploration of paper making. They stopped being interested in the jungle.

And then came the Titanic.

On the lifecycle of ideas turns. Stay tuned. –Laurie

Marta Ciccone. Marta came to Wee Wee three years ago, in the winter of 2011. She transitioned to the older classroom a year later. Marta and her family have filled our lives with laughter, language, stories of the world, great parties, great nonas and  great support of our program. Marta is curious and articulate. She notices the (big!) world around her and asks questions that inspire others to engage and learn. Her temperament is spicy and her joy contagious. We will miss Marta so very much. Thank you, Marta, for growing with us and teaching US about our Wee World. WE LOVE YOU! Ciao, Marta, Chiara, Pamina and Baboo!

We’ve been waiting for the worms. While we waited, we created.  Puppets, sticks, letters and pix. Stickers, a few bickers, pulling up knickers. Standing up and standing down, we waited for the postwoman to come ‘round.

Hello!

We spent some of our morning reading our favorite books! Saskia and Naia took turns reading stories in the cube while Miss Mindy and Tate read a couple books that he chose. Our friends are enjoying taking control and turning the page when they’re ready to move on Smile.

It was a great sensory filled morning outside between the rocks and sand! Lucy and Maya filled up their buckets and then dumped them out! They repeated this over and over! Friends also love taking their fingers and running them through the rocks and sand.

IMG_1808IMG_1815

Nora and friends spent some time at the new science table where there are specific books about science. Their favorites so far are the book about BUGS! There are also a few magnifying glasses that they can use to look at the bugs in their habitats.

As you know, Krystle has been completing her IUSB  Early Childhood practicum with us. This morning, IUSB Professor Susan Cress, spent time with us observing Krystle’s alphabet/rice exploration. After spending yesterday coloring the rice with Wee Friends, this morning, Krystle invited them to find their letter (buried within) and match it to a corresponding letter grid.

004

At the same time, our 4 C’s Food Program Assessor made her unannounced quarterly visit! Josie observes our food service and ensures that we are following the Indiana federal food program guidelines. Wee Friends (and staff) love Josie and her visits are always enjoyable and supportive.

We appreciate the people who make up our community and are always glad to see you. Have a great day. –Laurie

Happy Tuesday!

**Just as a reminder, WWF will be closed July 3rd through July 11th for summer break. Thanks!

The day started off with a little shaker action. With music going in the background, friends used their pianos and shakers to make loud music. We all have our favorites and are very protective over them. Today, we did a good job sharing with our friends.

As Miss Marty read stories, Maya, Tate, and Lucy sat working with trains. They really worked with their fine motor skills trying their hardest to get the blocks to fit on the trains. Persistence was the name of the game!

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I hope your morning was full of as much fun as ours!

Our morning started off with measuring. We measured out cups of rice and tablespoons of water colors to make an end result of colored rice! The rice will be for an upcoming activity the children will have the chance of doing tomorrow, where they will find alphabet letters hidden in the rice. I am so excited for this activity!

The children also role-played the life of a fireman and asked for the “Fire Truck Song”. Melinda put it on for them and also showed them the hook and ladder on a fire truck. How cool!

Breakfast: Wheat toast with peanut butter and bananas Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers

Lunch: Watermelon, whole wheat tortillas with hummus, fresh cut broccoli and cauliflower  Snack: pretzels and cheese
