Happy Friday!
We had lower numbers today so we thought, “Great! More one on one time to spend with children!”
And while we did this, we also saw just how independent and self sufficient these children are.
Case in point:
As I was working on kindergarten sign in, Zoey shared a thought: “I want to write a story about me.” She joined me at the island and together (mostly her!), we kid spelled, ‘Back to bed Ed’, which was the title of her story. As she was drawing her picture to match the title of her story, Emma came up to the island and commented, “Zoey, I want to write a book too!”
Instead of asking us for help, Zoey took the reins and told Emma what she’d need to make a book. After gathering the materials together, they sat next to each other at the island and worked through letters and the sounds of those letters. Of course, a teacher was right there to answer any questions they had but for the most part, they became the teachers and taught one another.
Our goal as preschool educators is to give children the tools to be their own teacher as well as giving them the confidence to teach their peers.
What a way to end the week.
