Good Afternoon!
This week, we’ll be talking about plants and animals and today for our PREK1 sign in, we focused on plants! Each group member came up the board where they were asked to identify the missing part of the plant. Everyone knew that it was the roots and we talked about what the roots job is.
Science K.4.1: Give examples of plants and animals.
This morning a friend asked if we could read some books from the seasonal box. One of the books was about finding eggs on an egg hunt. Several kids got very interested in finding all of the eggs on each page. One of our older friends began to add them up as we went from page to page. The numbers got bigger, but she was still able to do the math. She got up to 11+3=14 eggs. Some of our younger kids were able to add 2 eggs on one page plus 2 on another page to get 4 eggs. This was a great example of addition practice occurring naturally, emerging from an authentic interest.
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day.
PREK2: In group today we read the book “The Creature of Habit”. We talked about how the creature had been worried about trying new things but had liked it once he tried. After group we thought about something that we had tried that was new to us. Some kids shared something they wanted to try rather than something we had already tried. We made a group list.
Breakfast– Whole wheat english muffin with cream cheese and fresh apples.
Lunch– Whole wheat pasta with kidney beans and shredded beef, fresh honeydew melon/banana, and fresh cucumber/pepper/cherry tomatoes.
PM snack– Whole milk yogurt with graham crackers.
Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/pepper.
Have a lovely night!
