Good Afternoon!
Our PREK1 sign in focused on plants and what they HAVE and what they NEED. Each friend found a card with their name on it and on the back, a word was written. We read the word aloud and children had to determine if it was something that a plant needs or has. Our oldest friend was given the word ‘sun’ and she was able to sound out the word all by herself!
Science K.4.1: Give examples of plants and animals.
We expanded on our animal imaginative play exploration this morning at the round table. We added three trays of kinetic sand, each with a different type of material for building farm fences. One friend shared that her farm had no fences. We talked about free range farms. This prompted a great question about how the animals would “stay safe from predators”. We talked about how some farms have dogs that herd and protect the animals. Several kids added dogs to their farms and enjoyed playing imaginatively around this theme. It was exciting to see one of our older friends lead this leaning experience. One friend became interested in counting groups of animals so we also enjoyed a little addition practice. So many learning opportunities emerge naturally form these kinds of intentional, yet open ended play experiences.
I would like to take a moment to share a brief conversation between two friends as they walked up the hill:
Milo: “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?’
Clark: (in a mater-of-fact tone) “No…”
Breakfast: Oatmeal squares cereal with fresh watermelon.
Lunch: Brown rice with chicken, fresh cantaloupe/pineapple/watermelon, and fresh cucumbers/peppers.
PM Snack: Peanut butter on whole wheat crackers with sunflower seeds and raisins.
Wee Sprouts: Fresh cucumbers/peppers
Have a lovely afternoon!
