Good afternoon!

We kicked off our Monday by talking about movement. PREK1 kiddos chose a card with an animal written on it and they sorted their animal into one of two categories: fast moving animals or slow moving animals.

This conversation continued on into group where we read ‘Gilbert the Great’. Gilbert is a shark with various sea creatures as friends. We talked about how seas creatures move compared to other animals.

Science K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.

Last week after our warm/cold air experiment, we noticed some interest in exploring more hands-on science.  Hannah shared that she knew of an experiment with baking soda.  We decided to try it in class.  We colored some vinegar and added it to a tray of baking soda using eye droppers.  We talked about what we saw and heard when we put the two substances together.  Kids shared that they saw bubbles and fizz, sharing that it was like an explosion and like lava.  One friend said it sounded like “cooking”.  We learned when two substances act like this when put together, its called a chemical reaction.

PREK2: We read “Slowly Slowly Said the Sloth” at group today.  After the story, we thought of animals that are fast or slow.  We recorded our thoughts on the board.
