Happy Monday!

We kicked off our week by diving into rules that we have in our classroom and why we have those rules. Our two kindergarteners were asked to share one rule we have at the art table and why we have that rule for their sign in activity. Student A shared that we can’t throw playdough at the art table. He added facial expressions to his drawings to share how the kids felt in that situation. He also added a big red spot on a child’s forehead where he had gotten hit with the playdough. Student S shared that we can’t use pencils or scissors in an inappropriate way. She drew a pencil in one child’s hand and a pair of scissors in the other child’s hand.

Later on in PREK1 group, we started talking about community helpers. We read ‘In The City’ which is a very unique book as we used a flashlight to look at things hidden in the pages! We saw community helpers helping out throughout the city such as construction works, pilots, bus drivers, and teachers. We’ll continue to talk about community helpers outside the classroom but inside the classroom as well throughout the rest of the week.

Our PREK1 group completed their sign in activity this morning as they were asked to share one rule that we have outside. A few different friends shared that we can’t run down at the bottom of the yard when the babies are out!—one that we talk about quite often! Smile

This morning, kids chose from a variety of loose parts materials to explore. One of our friends found she could make several shapes using the materials available! She made a triangle, a square, and two rectangles by dividing the square. We love when kids discover these possibilities and open a conversation that leads to deep learning.

We saw some great cooperation on the building rug as two of our friends worked as a team to build trains and train stations. Our older friend helped our younger friend problem solve how to build a very long train station. He chose to help his friend before he finished his own station. It’s wonderful to see our kids developing these important social skills.
