Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week.

This morning a friend was interested in the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Once she got to the Saturday portion of the book,  her words were being used very well to tell teachers what the food items were that she came across. We could hear the excitement in her voice. Smile

Our friend Arthur LOVES he habi-trail and its ladder area. He climbs very happily to it multiple times throughout his days. He enjoys engaging in gross motor activities very much!

Good Afternoon!

During K/PREK1 group, we read two ‘Frog and Toad’ stories. The Frog and Toad series is one of our favorites! Immediately, friends started sharing, “I have Frog and Toad books at my house!”

We looked at the various illustrations  to see what the author may have wrote based on those illustrations.

K.RL.4.1: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

Mack and Evie used simple geometric shapes to create larger shapes for their kindergarten sign in activity. For example, they had to take six triangles to make a hexagon.

They each were given ten cards that had a problem on it. There were a couple problems that proved to be a little challenging but they used fantastic problem solving skills so they were able to finish the problem with little help.

K.G.4: Compose simple geometric shapes to form larger shapes (e.g., create a rectangle composed of two triangle).

In PREK2, group members looked at several different illustrations. They came up with examples of what the author may have wrote about the illustrations.

We spent the majority of the morning at the art table or in the housekeeping area. The outside was calling our names shortly after 10:00—it was absolutely gorgeous!

Good Afternoon.

Today we engaged in part two of our bubble wrap activity and boy oh boy did we love it! We were offered paint brushes to paint our piece of bubble wrap and we could also use our hand and fingers to paint and pop some of the bubbles. We had so much fun and excitement with this activity. Smile

Our friend thought it would be a great idea to rest on a big rock during our outdoor play. There are many places we can sit and have a rest period if needed/wanted. This rock however, seems to be just right for this friend.

We also had a great time playing Ring Around the Rosie with one another. Some of the preschool classroom friends joined in as well.

Good afternoon families!

This morning we had some special visitors in our classroom. Miss Annastecia brought in three nine week old kittens to practice using gentle hands, being respectful to other creatures, and reading body language. Kittens are a great lesson on respect and consent, and even though it is difficult to wait patiently until they are ready to play with us, it is important to do this mindful and respectful practice.

The kittens are here because Miss Annastecia’s cat ran away in June, and her family took their mama cat into their home thinking it was their cat who had returned. Miss Annastecia’s intuition told her something was amiss, but brushed it off, and sure enough their real cat came home the next week. The mysterious, identical stray ended up blessing them with a litter of five adorable kittens about a month later! It was truly a happy and hilarious situation.

Two of the kittens have already gone to their forever homes, and two more have been spoken for. That leaves one kitten- an all black female! She is spunky, small, and sweet, and if your family, or anyone else’s you know, is missing a kitten friend to complete their home, please contact Miss Annastecia and she can change that for you!

Good Afternoon!

We kicked off our Tuesday by making sun catchers at the art table! Children chose a plastic top to use before adding glue to it. They had various materials to choose from to add to the glue. We can’t wait to see how they turn out and hang them up in the classroom.

We were able to gather up some carrots from our garden today that we later cleaned and had this afternoon for a snack! Our friends are quick to scatter to the garden to request a piece of kale—it’s one of our favorites!

This Teacher Tom blogpost definitely tugged at the heart strings! Regardless of how long a child has been in school, there are just some mornings where they want their mom or dad or simply to stay at home. We all have those mornings! Smile

Good Afternoon.

We happily engaged in a two part sensory activity today. (We will conclude the second part tomorrow.) We stepped, stomped and crawled onto bubble wrap as well as manipulated our fingers to squeeze the bubbles to make them pop.  Smile  We all loved the popping sounds we heard and look forward to painting more bubble wrap tomorrow.

Good Afternoon!

To kick off our week in kindergarten, Mack and Evie each drew an illustration that matched the words I wrote as the author: “Mack and Evie spent the morning building with Legos at the table”. They each drew a picture that matched those words! We talked about the jobs of the author and illustrator in the story.

K.RL.3.2: Define the role of the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

DSCN0247

We read, ‘Are You My Mother?’ in K/PREK1 group. Throughout the story, we talked about how the words and the pictures matched. There were a few pages where I asked, “Based on the picture, what do you think the words say?”—group members did a great job at guessing what the words may say based on the illustrations that the illustrator drew.

Throughout the week, we’ll chat about shapes and specific aspects of each shape such as the length of sides, number of sides, and vertices.

Today, we specifically talked about the number of sides and vertices of each shape. We noticed towards the end of the activity that for each shape we talked about, the number of sides and number of vertices matched!

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

DSCN2644

In PREK2, children each got the opportunity to sort a shape based on the number of sides they counted on their shape!

DSCN2637DSCN2633

Enjoy the pictures from the rest of our day!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend.

This morning we had a great time playing with the balls. We enhanced our hand-eye coordination skills by tossing the ball back and forth to Bekah. Arthur was even excited to join in on the fun by throwing his ball from off the habi-trail area.

Good Afternoon.

This morning friends were playing peek-a-boo at the fish take with one another. They would each look through the sides of the tank and just giggle at one another. Then, they would meet one another on one side. How adorable is that?!?!?!?!

We engaged in the dot markers today and had a great experience. Some friends knew just how the markers worked and what they needed to do to make colors appear on their papers and others needed a little guidance and figured things out quickly. We ALL enjoyed this special style of marker.
