Happy Friday!

What a transitional week we had!

Two new friends joined our classroom, a few children left on vacation, and we’re missing old friends from afar.

But, it’s given children time to form new relationships and take on new roles. With our current kindergarteners soon exiting, our new group of K friends are starting to take on the prestigious leader role. This has been very evident this week especially when it comes to helping our new friends with the daily procedures that are brand new to them.

Within the next month, our classroom will go through a change as it always does in August. Somehow, we are almost halfway through July!

“Learning is messy, but it’s a beautiful mess.”

…(as evident by our feet and fingernails this week! Smile)

Good Afternoon and happy Friday!

This morning while friends were outside in the sandbox some weeds were found.  Miss Rebekah pulled out what she thought was a weed. Come to find out some of our squirrels were hiding corn in the sand.

Miss Rebekah and friends were having a conversation on where corn is supposed to  grow and friends said, “in the garden.”

What a very cool and interesting place for the squirrels to hide their corn, not too mention an interesting lesson for our Wee Wee’s to learn about.

Good Afternoon.

This morning we engaged in the dramatic play center. We dressed up with scarves, dresses and hats all while cooking, taking care of our babies and cleaning. What a busy time that brought us so much enjoyment.

Good Afternoon!

Our Wednesday was full of card games, water play, laughter, and budding friendships.

Summer offers up many transitions. New schools. New friends. Friends leaving for a new school. And the inconsistency is even more so given the times we’re in. But one thing is certain. Children are resilient.

“Building resilience in your children does not mean trying to toughen them up. It means working with them through struggles and being a source of loving, unconditional support.”

Good Afternoon.

Friends have been really interested in our letters that are hanging on the wall by the habi-trail slide.

We are often asked what letter a friends names in the classroom start with, and then we will point to that letter on the wall and sound it out.

Today, Ellie wanted pointed to the Z and said, “this is for Xylophone!” Miss Rebekah had a small conversation about how that Xylophone sounds like a Z but it is actually an X and then showed her where the X was on the wall.

Good Afternoon!

Here’s a sneak peak into our day!

Enjoy this short Teacher Tom blog post that explains why play is crucial for children and the connection it creates later on in life.

“This is why the human animal must play, not just so that the formulas will make sense when we’re older, but so the world will make sense. The children have no idea they are learning physics any more than they know they are learning to be self-motivated learners, practicing being sociable, and acquiring the skills and habits necessary to work well with others.”

Good Afternoon.

Today Caroline and Ellie happily engaged in the Duplo blocks and the little Duplo people.

They made all kinds of neat structures and were both pretty proud of themselves.

This activity helps enhance a child’s fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills as well as building on their color and shape recognition. It also helps with building their self-esteem, as they feel proud of themselves for building the items to where their imaginations have taken them.
