Good Afternoon.

This morning we engaged in a fun sensory and fine motor activity that we all enjoyed so much. We started off by first coloring with markers on a piece of paper and then dipping a paintbrush into some water and painted our marker drawings. Our creations turned out beautifully.

“The child has a different relation to his environment from ours..the child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul. He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear.”

Happy Monday!

This morning Caroline and Ellie were pretending to be a doctor and a patient. Caroline was the doctor and pretended to listen to Ellie’s ears, check her back, her throat, and her belly. She even checked her knee reflexes as she pretended to “thump” her knee. Smile

Imaginative play tends to begin around the age of 18 to 24 months. Children will begin to act out everyday actions they see their parents and others do.

Happy Monday!

We are three chapters away from the end of Charlotte’s Web in our K/PREK1 group! Today, we learned that Charlotte made a web at the fairgrounds that contained 514 spiders! Friends have been picking up on Charlotte’s tone and are wondering what’s going to happen to her. A  few children have shared what takes place in the movie so we’re excited to see if it’s the same in the book.

In PREK2, children were handed specific bug jars and had to place the number of bugs that was written on the top of the jar. Children were able to use their one to one correspondence skills as they counted each bug.

DSCN5961DSCN5957

Our activity this morning revolved around various bugs and the physical characteristics that each exhibit. Friends took turns at the table where they got an opportunity to choose one bug. They used a variety of nature objects such as rocks, sticks, and leaves to create the bug. Then, after their bug was built, they could draw it if they wanted. Crayons were put on the table (green, gray, and brown) to match the nature materials that they used.

Happy Friday!

Our hands were busy, our minds engaged, and our smiles wide—what a great way to end our week.

A glimpse into our day:

Daniel sat at the art table where he wrote various letters that he knows as well as an exclamation point! I asked if he knew how to use an exclamation point and he said no. So I told him that we use it in writing when we’re excited or when you talk louder than normal. His response? “So like when I talk about baseball!?”

DSCN5802DSCN5803

Friends were scattered through the environment building various creations.  At the circle table, Grady, Penny, and Z could be seen working together creating a chain. Penny and Z decided to create patterns within their chain. Penny’s pattern was blue-red-blue-red (she called this her America pattern) and Z’s pattern was green-red-green-red (she called this her Christmas pattern).

At the back of the house, Franklin and Sophia worked for over an hour creating a magnatile castle! They discussed different characteristics that they wanted their castle to have.

DSCN5813DSCN5816

As we wrapped up our dirt and rock exploration, a big white sheet was put on the ground outside with a ton of dirt in the middle. Friends got a turn to sit and explore the dirt, finding things such as rocks, twigs, roots, spiders, and ants! They took their pencil and clipboard and drew what they saw.

Good Afternoon!

**Just a reminder: Wee Friends will be closed Thursday, July 2nd through Friday, July 10th.

Charlotte and Wilbur made their way to the fair in chapter 17. We are getting toward the end of the book and friends who have seen the movie are anxious to find out if the story ends the same way.

As we read chapter 17 in K/PREK1, we found out that once Avery and Fern got to the fair, their father gave them coins to spend throughout the day BUT they were given different amounts of coins. After we finished the chapter, we wrote out the coins that each child got to see who got the most. Surprise, surprise! They each got the same amount of money, just in different coins.

Penny noted several things that were different in the book compared to the movie. For instance, in the book, Avery and Fern walked around the fair and got fair food (Cracker Jack’s and a candy apple to be exact) and Penny shared, “That didn’t happen in the movie!”—of course friends inquired about what Cracker Jack’s are so we had to google it Smile.

In PREK2, each child got the chance to write out numbers 1 through 10 before heading to the journal table.

DSCN5778DSCN5781

We’ve been learning about rocks and dirt this week and today, children had the opportunity to come to the art table and create their own pet rock using a variety of colorful paints. This was after we read one of our favorite stories, ‘Stick and Stone’.

DSCN5691DSCN5716

DSCN5738DSCN5747DSCN5736

Shortly before heading outside, a friend got out the unifix cubes which attracted several friends. Soon the table was full and children were either sorting the cubes by color or creating their own pattern!
