Good Afternoon!

True or false—>

Teachers initiate all learning experiences.

FALSE.

Case in point: a teacher walked out into the front science area this morning after a few friends had grabbed pencils, paper, and clipboards. Evie, one of our three year old’s, was walking back and forth between the bench and the cubbie area. She was writing her peer’s names down on her paper to invite them to her party. The first name she wrote was Penelope. However, when she wrote it down on her paper, she was writing uppercase letters. She was taking the lowercase letter that was on each child’s cubbie nametag and making the connection to the uppercase letter which is what she wrote!

When this started, her friends flocked to her with their clipboards and they proceeded to go around and ask their friends how to write their name for their birthday list. They talked about uppercase and lowercase letters, sounds that the letters were making in each name, as well as seeing similarities such as “I have an A in my name too!”

This letter and name exploration required no teacher involvement. We were here to answer questions or add materials to extend the activity but the simple love of learning spearheaded this experience.

“Children learn as they place. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”

Good Afternoon.

This morning Caroline was very interested in engaging in sensory playdoh play! Smile

As she was getting changed she says… “Marty, can we play with playdoh today, there’s red and blue!” She was absolutely correct in those color choices too.

Friends also utilized their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills during this fun activity.

During our outdoor play a few of our little ones were very intrigued with what Miss Annastecia was doing. They enjoyed watching her and listening to her words as she explained what she was doing. Smile

Good Afternoon!

**Wee Friends will be closed Thursday, July 2nd through Friday, July 10th. We’ll return on Monday, July 13th. Thanks!

The phrase, ‘Some Pig’ occupied our K/PREK1 group time! We finally found out that Charlotte wrote ‘Some Pig’ in her spiderweb and how the Zuckerman’s as well as the rest of the town reacted to it. After reading chapter 11, we added a few more personality traits or important information about the four main characters. Friends are retaining specific information and even direct quotes that they are re-sharing during our group session or even the next day.

Miss Kim read, ‘Those Shoes’ which lead into the art activity for our Facebook Live session! Friends used a variety of art materials to decorate their own shoe! They were all different and all unique.

Our outside time was full of exploration and imagination.

EXPLORATION: Friends searched in every corner of the backyard environment for bugs while others chose to explore the sandbox and how deep they could bury their body!

IMAGINATION: Two older peers sat in the sandbox next to each other and played Pictionary. They each took turns drawing pictures in the sand while the other guessed what they drew! They went back and forth several times, drawing a variety of items such as a snowman, an 8, mermaid, and unicorn.

Happy Monday!

We started in on chapter 11 in Charlotte’s Web in our K/PREK1 group and throughout the chapter, friends asked several questions about words they didn’t know. For example, a friend asked, “What’s a horsefly?”. After we finished reading the chapter, we looked up pictures of a horsefly! We finished at the part where Charlotte took out the center of her web and wrote ‘Some Pig’ in the middle. We’re anxious to see what happens next!

In PREK2, children played a new game called ‘Don’t Break The Ice’. Each friend got a turn to roll the dice. Once they rolled, they made that many holes on the top of the saran wrap. Once there were several holes poked at the top, the bear fell into the jar!

Our tie-dye exploration started today! There were a few steps we took to complete our tie-dye shirts.

The first step was to place rubber bands sporadically around the t-shirt depending on the pattern they wanted. They got to choose from a few different patterns.

After everyone put the rubber bands on their shirts, friends headed out one at a time to tie-dye their shirt using Indigo! They are currently hanging on the line drying—they turned out AMAZING!

Hmmmm…. I wonder what our friend Rowan was thinking?!?! Maybe she was thinking about picking some of the pretty white flowers in the grass and then what they would smell like. Smile

Happy Friday!

Yesterday in K/PREK1 group, we contemplated what the title of chapter 10 referred to. The title of chapter 10 was ‘An Explosion’ and our thought was that the explosion may have something to do with Charlotte’s web. However, it did not and instead, the explosion referred to a rotten egg that Templeton (the rat) was storing in it’s trough. The egg ‘exploded’ and released a rather disgusting smell into the air! We talked about what that smell may have smelled like.

Evie has been interested in measuring things lately and today, she teamed up with an older peer in Penny and they worked together to measure things, starting with the pole in habitrail! Penny held one end of the tape measurer while Evie held the other end and read the number that was showing on the tape measurer. Once they took the measurement, they documented it by writing it down.

As friends headed outdoors, they became involved in a scavenger hunt! They found several clues that eventually lead them to a puzzle they had to put together!

Good Afternoon!

We are through chapter 9 in Charlotte’s Web in our K/PREK1 group! There were several conversations between Charlotte and Wilbur in this chapter that made us deep belly laugh! After we finished chapter 9, I read the title of chapter 10 which is ‘The Explosion’—we’ll read this tomorrow. First, we talked about what an explosion is which lead into what may ‘explode’ in chapter 10. There were several guesses that Charlotte’s web will explode…stay tuned to see if we were right!

DSCN4666DSCN4667DSCN4664

In PREK2, children played alphabet bingo. Miss Kim said a letter aloud and they had to see if they had it on their bingo board and if they did, they covered that space up with a colorful counter!

DSCN4661DSCN4673DSCN4676

Children took turns at the art table where they explored a frozen treasure bomb made with baking soda. Friends used a variety of materials such as a squirt bottle and liquid eye dropper to add vinegar to their treasure bomb. Slowly but surely, the treasure appeared as the frozen treasure bomb started to melt! A few friends noted the sounds they heard coming from the treasure bomb as the vinegar mixed with the baking soda.
