Happy Monday!

**Now until Christmas break goes fairly quickly so just a reminder that we need to have updated shot records for your child by January 7th, 2019.

We hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving weekend!

________________________________________________________________

K/PREK1: This week, we’re discussing ways that we can be a responsible member of our family as well as a responsible member of a group. Today, we read ‘Clifford’s Good Deeds’ and before we started, we talked about what a ‘deed’ is. Lucy shared, “It’s when you help someone!”. Throughout the story, we noted the ways that Clifford was choosing to make a responsible, helpful choice.

After the story was done, we talked about ways that we’re a helpful, responsible member of our family. Each friend shared one way that they help and I dictated their response on the chalkboard. I asked, “Why is it important that you help your mom and dad around the house?”. Lucy thought about it and raised her hand: “So that our parents know that we appreciate them.”

Social Studies: K.2.4: Give examples of how to be a responsible family member and member of a group.

DSCN9395DSCN9396

PREK2: After reading Ribbon Rescue, children discussed Jillian and how she became a great helper to the people she knew. As different acquaintances were on their way to a wedding, Jillian helped them with different tasks. All of these tasks required ribbons that she was wearing in her hair so at the end of the story, she had no ribbons left but had helped the people around her. All members of the group wrote their name under ‘sharing her ribbons’ after they discussed the question!

Happy Snowy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic Holiday weekend.

Please Note: WF will be closed for our annual Christmas vacation break on Monday December 24th through January 4th. We will re-open on January 7th, 2019.

Our friend Jack was a busy little guy this morning with the gross motor big block activity. He devised a plan with Miss Brittney and successfully made it happen. He placed the two half moon soft star’s together to make a single structure, then placed many big blocks in a line to lead up to it. He told Miss Brittney he wanted to be able to walk along the big blocks to then jump into the soft star circle. After that, he decided to make a different pattern with the blocks and throw our fun “snowballs” into the circle while he counted each ball he threw. t

Jack demonstrated many different educational learning strategies with jus this one activity! Early math skills, color recognition, imagination, and working on utilizing different patterns.

Meanwhile in another part of the classroom, Miss Rebekah and friends read many fun stories. Including the ever so popular “teacher books.”

The two most exciting books Miss Rebekah read were, Five Little Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed, and Two Little Monkey’s Sitting in a Tree. These two stories are fun interactive books for our friend’s to really get into. Daniel and Evie both know these stories very well, and in certain parts tell teachers the words coming up next. They both very excited told Miss Rebekah “Snap, and (while using fingers as if to say no) No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”

Our Wednesday morning was full of fun, laughter, and excitement as we painted our nails for pajama day! We also got to make our own english muffin pizzas before putting on a fashion show. These things have become a staple here at Wee Friends before heading into a holiday or long weekend. We look forward to them and have such a good time while making great memories.

Daniel asked Miss Rebekah this morning if she would get the musical drums down, and of course she happily obliged in that request. Daniel and Zoe banged the drums with their hands, and stacked them to make a drum tower. Miss Rebekah also banged on a drum and asked friends to help her make a beat.

Good Afternoon!

**Our friends have been quite busy and productive at the art table/easel lately! Please make sure that you’re clearing out your child’s regular cubby and art cubby. There are grocery bags in an open cubby for you to use! Smile

K/PREK1 read ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’. It gave us a great opening to talk about letter writing and how a letter is constructed. All of the letters in the story were addressed to Duncan which a friend said, “That’s who is getting the letter!”. We also discussed how a letter has to come from someone. We constructed our own letter to Duncan and showed our caring side when several friends agreed upon giving him a birthday gift..a Starbucks gift card!

K.W.1: Write for specific purposes and audiences.

PREK2 completed addition problems by using two dice as manipulatives. Each friend got the chance to shake a cup and allow the dice to fall onto the floor. When the dice came to a stop, children used their index finger to count the number of dots on the side of the dice that was showing.

Happy Monday, I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

This morning we were happily engaged in shaving cream sensory play. We used paint brushes, cars, trucks, and farm animals to enhance our play. Not only do we get to use our hands with this activity, we can use our sense of smell as shaving cream has a pretty potent smell. Friends had a great time.

Gross motor activities are always a great way to get our  bodies in motion. Jumping on the trampoline is a favorite of everyone’s. Some of our friend’s like to jump really high, getting their feet off the trampoline and some of them enjoy a much lighter jump! All in all, we have a blast.

Happy Monday!

**We will have a PAJAMA DAY on Wednesday!

K/PREK1–Miss Tami bought us a new book that we thoroughly enjoyed.  It talked about how two Cherokee’s came upon the first strawberries on Earth. Throughout the story, friends questioned what was going on and gave their theories as to how the story would end.

Afterwards, we used the strawberries in our addition equations. I asked Anna, “If I have five strawberries and then add three strawberries, how many strawberries would I have?”. We talked about the addition sign and the equation sign and what those meant. When Anna added the two numbers together, she searched the white cards to find the right number before taping it onto the chalkboard.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g., 5=3+2 and 5=4+1).

DSCN9224DSCN9225

PREK2 worked together to write a letter to non other than Santa! Each friend was able to say aloud what they wanted most for Christmas as they were specifically writing to Santa.

DSCN9219DSCN9223

We made two batches of new playdough this morning. Lucy identified the recipe that was taped onto the cabinet and once we read through the recipe we got started! First, we made a green batch of playdough that smells of peppermint. Next, we made a vibrant purple batch of playdough that has a hint of lavender smell.

DSCN9144DSCN9155

The outdoors was calling our name so we bundled up and spent some time outdoors before lunch. As the garbage trunk came by, he honked several times at us which we LOVED! We absolutely love watching the claw pick up the garbage can and dump the trash into the truck.

Happy Friday!

We spent the early part of our morning making birthday cards for Miss Annastecia who celebrated her birthday today. Friends sang her ‘happy birthday’ a few times and made sure to make her day extra special. We hope you had a wonderful day!!

DSCN9077DSCN9086

K/PREK1 completed sentences during group time. I read the sentence and friends came up with an action verb to fill the sentence. Anna said, “We talked about verbs earlier today too!”. When we’re able to attract children and dive into curriculum driven activities for ten to twenty minutes each day, it’s much more meaningful because children are able to get out their ‘wiggles and giggles’ as well as using their imagination during play experiences.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs- Writing sentences that include verbs.

PREK2 added the first letter of their first name to make a new word! After they added their letter, they read the new words that they had made.
