Good Afternoon!

**Tomorrow is PAJAMA day!

**We want to apologize for the inconsistency of the blog. We’re in the process of moving it to another server as the one we currently have is causing a few issues. We love communicating to you about your child’s day so we really appreciate your understanding until we can get it resolved!

In pre-k/k group, we used our fingers to solve math problems. We discussed the addition or plus sign as well as the equal sign and what they mean in an equation. Children identified the first number and held that many fingers up. Together, we figured out how many more fingers we needed until we got to 10! Friends did a great job working together and helping one another out.

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9.

Ruby and Franklin complete a journal this morning. Ruby started by drawing a straight line and Franklin immediately asked, “Ruby! Are you writing an F for Franklin?”. Ruby smiled and said, “Yes, I am!”.

A group of us sanitized and cleaned our toys this morning! We talked about being a responsible member of a community and how making sure our toys stay clean and well taken care of is a big part of that.

We also talked about germs. A child said, “It still has a little scratch on it. I can’t get the germs off!”. This lead into a discussion about how we can’t see germs so that’s why it’s important to wash our hands and make sure we’re making safe, healthy choices! Lucy commented, “I bet these animals are super happy to be getting a bath this morning!” Smile.

Good afternoon.

Today was an exciting day for our Wee Wee Friends because we were able to go outside!!! Ohhh, the smiles teachers see when we tell the kids we are heading out. There is nothing better than seeing those bright smiles and the sheer happiness radiating from our friends.

While we were outside playing a couple of our friends found their sibling and had a great time joining them in their play. We are very grateful to have two sites so close to one another so our siblings can see one another at some point during their day.

We absolutely love to see our older friends interact with our younger friends in the classroom. Mack has taken Daniel under his wing lately and they have been inseparable. The relationships that are formed while at Wee Wee Friends is nothing short of AWESOME!!! As teachers, we work hard on teaching our older friends to help out the younger ones and show them the ropes! We have great leaders in the making!!

Good afternoon!

We apologize for the inconvenience of the blog being down the last couple of days. It has been a work in progress that is diligently being taken care of. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Sensory play comes in all forms of fun and exciting objects to play with. Today, our friends are engaged in the hard, uncooked spaghetti. We can break it, stack it into a pile, and place into cups. We even attempt to eat it at times. Sensory play is one of our favorite indoor activities.

We LOVE to use our imagination to call our mommies and daddies on the pretend cell phones. Emma and Mack also utilize their fine motor skills to text on the phones as well. Oh, the conversations we have!

Good Afternoon!

Yesterday afternoon, a few of our older friends played a hopscotch game revolving around reading as well as word families. Maddie read the word before she jumped on it which prompted her younger peers to play as well! She helped them read the word and talked about the letters they saw and the sounds they heard.

Today, Lucy wanted to create an extension of that activity inside since we couldn’t make it outside this morning. She created her own hopscotch by taping paper together and writing the words we used yesterday. She took them to the science area and explored the activity that she made.

Happy Monday!

REMINDER: Wee Friends will be CLOSED Friday, March 30th in observance of the Good Friday holiday.

We were finally able to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. What a fantastic way to get our week started. Our friends were very excited and more than happy to get their coats, hats and gloves on this morning.

There are many choices for our little ones in the outdoor environment, with just as many learning opportunities. Our friends can utilize their gross and fine motor capabilities  as well as their sensory skills. We LOVE being outside. Smile

During our inside play today, we were actively engaged in play dough. Our friends use their imagination skills as well as their fine motor skills to make all sorts of creations.

Happy Friday!

This morning a few of our friends decided it was time to “go on break” and bring baskets of food with them. Mack and Emma found it hysterical to grab as much as they could from the kitchen, along with their phones and take a lunch break like their teachers do. Emma even said, “Oh I can’t forget my cell phone today. Mack, come on!”

We also had some greater helpers when trying to clean our toys today. They were excited to help and work hard with each other to keep our school germ free!

Happy Monday!

**Just as a reminder, we are closed this Friday, March 30th. Thank you!

In pre-k/k group, we read ‘The Shape of Me and Other Stuff’ by Dr. Seuss. Throughout the story, children noted various words that rhymed. After we finished the story, Maddie read five words for us: lip, bed, see, bean, and bug. Together, we came up with rhyming words by changing the beginning consonant sound. We wrote down words and nonsensical words!

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

DSCN0150DSCN0151

During naptime, Maddie interacted with a ‘word family’ activity. Maddie had to determine what consonant sound to put at the beginning of each word. For example, ham, jam, and ram are in the same word family and the beginning consonant sound gets changed each time to change the word as well as the meaning of the word.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

DSCN0160DSCN0164

The light table was made available in the science area this morning where we worked with a plethora of materials. We worked on things such as patterns, comparison, and using descriptive words.

Our older children worked on adding numbers together to get to the number 10. Lucy and Maddie were given six seashells. Together, they worked to see how many more seashells they would need to get to 10!

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to a given number from any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

DSCN0105DSCN0123

Lucy made an L for her name using a pattern before she took on the Eiffel Tower using colored counters.

DSCN0118DSCN0130

Miss Melinda got a new book over the weekend called ‘Welcome to the Symphony’. We found out that a couple of friends have this book at home! As Miss Melinda read it for the first time, children found out what sounds and instruments are in a symphony.

Good Afternoon!

Several children interacted with the welcome activity this morning. Using tongs, children sorted puff balls into two different glass jars: small and big. A few of our older kids took it one step further by counting the number of puff balls in each jars after they got done sorting them.

DSCN9928DSCN9933

The welcome activity allowed children to explore their fine motor skills as well as using descriptive words to describe each puff ball. We looked at the color of the balls as well as the size.

I’ve attached an article with a few tips on how to strengthen children’s fine motor skills:

DSCN9935DSCN9961DSCN9962

We headed outside where children ran throughout the outdoor environment, pretending to be different animals!

Maddie asked if there was something we could do together. So, she and I looked around the outside environment for items with one, two, or three syllables! We found it rather easy to find items that had only one syllable (bush, grass, log, sand) while finding three syllable words tended to be a little more challenging.
