Good afternoon!

Daniel and Pascale enjoyed the sound cylinders. The various cylinders that the classroom provides have different materials in them to make the sounds that our friends hear. Some are quiet as feathers, and some are loud like bells. While our friends are engaged in this activity, they are using their hand-eye coordination, as well as their sense of hearing.

Fine motor activities are always a big hit with our little ones. The pegs have multiple ways to incorporate learning experiences.  The recognition of colors, hand-eye coordination and the understanding of various shapes are all educational learning tools that help each of our friends achieve many of their milestones.

Good Afternoon!

This morning, children came to the art table for an exploration using play dough and plastic eggs. There were no set rules or regulations so children dove into the activity and used the two materials in every which way.

A few of our older friends turned it into a building activity where they used the play dough as a binding agent to build. They took pieces of play dough and attached eggs together using the play dough.

Dinosaur egg fossils were created as well as an egg pizza! A basic activity for all developmental levels resulted in a creativity boom!

Good Afternoon!

In pre-k/k group, we read, ‘The Revenge of the Magic Chicken’. Before we read the story, we talked about punctuation and the three different punctuation marks that we see as well as what they’re used for. Throughout the story, we pointed out the different punctuation marks that we talked about. I read a couple of sentences with an exclamation point and showed what an exclamation point does to a sentence!

Our journal experience was full of children pushing their boundaries, sharing their ideas, and collaborating with peers.

K.W.6.2b: Punctuation—Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

The excitement of journaling has filtered down to our younger friends. For the last couple of weeks, children have been asking to journal. Our younger children have been getting the hang of the journaling process. We love putting our ideas and thoughts on paper and getting to put a sticker and a date stamp on after!

Good afternoon.

Music was in the WWF air today.  Our friends were making many beautiful sounds and having loads of fun exploring the different musical instruments. Mack and Miss Marty were exploring the different tempos that could be used during their drum session. Mack was going at a slower pace, while Miss Marty was going at a faster pace. They then joined together and made their tempos all on the same drum.

We then moved onto the habitrail slide and had fun sliding down by ourselves or with friends. While being engaged on the slide, our friends can learn a very important life lesson. Taking turns can be difficult, but our WWF’ers do a great job of incorporating this skill into their play everyday.

Happy Friday!

Our student teacher, Miss Katie, started up an activity this morning that focused on patterns. Ruby helped Miss Katie sort beads by color before calling interested friends to the table. Miss Katie demonstrated a few patterns such as: ABAB, ABCABC, AND AABB. After demonstrating what certain patterns look like, each child got the chance to create their own pattern using beads and pipe cleaners.

Our older friends were challenged by pulling colors from a container that were not already sorted. A few younger children who were interested in the activity focused mainly on using their fine motor skills while still talking about patterns based on what their older peers were doing.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

It has been a building week! Anna used various shapes to create a star while Maddie expanded her ‘animal checkup’ that she built.
