HATCHED THIS MORNING… 5 BABY DUCKLINGS!

What a great way to start a Monday! We just missed the hatching, but were there to see and hold the new babies. They were so new they had difficulty not falling over! One of the jobs we did today was to

030

fix an outdoor enclosure so that mom and her babies could stay safe until they are bigger. The WF kids used wire cutters to cut away damaged chicken wire and then we replaced it with new. Everyone was able to have a short cuddle with the incredibly sweet new babies! We also fed, groomed, and watched the goats get milked by Ms Charlotte. We fed the 021chickens scraps and filled chicken water. After our hard work, we took a water break. We also picked (and ate most) strawberries from the garden.

It was another great farm trip!

Happy Monday!  Please accept our apology, as we had some technical difficulties with our blog on Friday.

This morning Miss Paulina played with the children and our barn.  They identified farm animals, their sounds, and baby animals.  The children also did some yoga.  While Miss Paulina was inside with this group of children, Miss Lisa had some of the smaller ones outside.  The children and Miss Lisa were rolling the ball to one another, played in the sand, and enjoyed a nice swing ride while singing songs.  We also have a new flashlight that shines in red, has different sequencing and light patterns, and was great for our hunt and exploration in our cave this morning.  Alma and Umi once again transformed into a beautiful ballerina and princess.  Miss Paulina sang,  ¨Bow, Bow to Miss Melinda,¨ as the children danced.  Finn requested ¨BINGO,¨and the firetruck song.  It was then time to put on our firemen hats to sing with our firetruck song!

It has been brought to my attention that Marty is very rarely mentioned in our blog.  Please know that Marty is a big asset to our team, and while Miss Paulina and myself are engaging in activities with the older children, Marty is often tending to our infants.  She is a great multi-tasker, and is often seen with more than one baby in her arms!  Marty is also our ¨resident hairstylist,¨ and we truly do appreciate all she does for us here at WWF!

Quote for the week, provided to us by Finn:  ¨I sure am a lucky man!¨ We are the lucky ones to have your child with us!  Make it a great week!

Just  a reminder that we will be closed July 1-11 as we enjoy time with our families.

CREEPY CRAWLY BABY SPIDERS!!!

142

This week the children have been closely examining the baby spiders that Tami captured off of her deck at home. Yesterday afternoon, we released the spiders into our garden. Hopefully, we will end up some pest control by adding the spiders!

The children watched with great interest as the baby spiders fled their captivity in the jar and ran toward the freedom of our vegetable plants. The spiders seemed to be flying because they were moving with such speed and their webs were so small that they were not very visible. The children were very close so many of 144them ended up with a baby spider climbing on them!

To better investigate their webs, Tami tinted the jar with blue powder so that the tiny web patterns would be visible. The children were amazed that in just 4 days, the baby spiders had filled the entire jar with webs! (And some of the children were just very fascinated with the blue tempera powder that Tami used to tint the web!)

Below are some photos from today!

We celebrated Melinda’s 60th Birthday this afternoon! She was surprised and very happy with the box of 60 cards. Thank you to all that contributed them.

Anticipating clouds and a dark sky this afternoon, we had some outside exploration time first thing this morning. Cupcake tins were filled with sand and baked in an imaginary oven. Examining our garden was also on our agenda. It appears that some rabbits are enjoying our crop, so thanks to Finn’s mom, the children sprayed the plants with water, then sprinkled some cayenne pepper on them to keep the rabbits away.

We had tortillas with cream cheese and carrots for lunch with a mixed vegetable medley and pineapple. We have continued to work with the children on their responses to biting, kicking, hair pulling and pushing. This afternoon we will make a banner and decorate it with markers, crayons, and gluing on array of things!
Just a reminder that with the hot summer days upon us, extra clothing is a big help. Please be sure you provide us with several changes of clothing for them.

Have a wonderful day!

Regards, Lisa, Amy, Marty and Paulina

What a beautiful start to our day!  The children worked with Miss Lisa in the kitchen this morning on coloring and their dot pictures.  They then ventured outside with Miss Amy to work on their gardening.  The carrots are beginning to come up!  Miss Lisa and Paulina led everyone in singing the “Hokey Pokey!”  For lunch we ate rice, beans, corn and fresh fruit salad.

Happy first birthday to Olivia.  Her mom brought us in some unfrosted cupcakes and fresh strawberries!  It was a lot of fun.

Prior to nap, we read our “No Biting” book and discussed our picture book about biting, pushing, kicking, and what we should say to our friends if this happens to us.  This afternoon we will enjoy some more exploration time outside.  Enjoy the beautiful weather and sunshine.

METAMORPHOSIS!

MG 9625

MG 9624

Late last summer, Taylor brought a caterpillar to school that she found at home. Wee Friends created an aquarium home for it. Soon thereafter, the caterpillar wove a cocoon and stayed there until yesterday (we think!). While in the science center, Tami noticed the caterpillar had become a beautiful moth! We studied the moth and then took it to its new home in the crab tree!

Inside, a small group of older friends studied the parts of a race car and hunted around the different WF learning centers to see if they could create a car with various materials of the same shape.

MG 9673 MG 9669

After they collected/compared their materials, they attached them to a Kleenex box to create a 3 dimensional race car.MG 9677 MG 9674 MG 9678

Tami worked with our new readers, listening as they read aloud.

Our garden is growing! Thanks to our Master Gardeners Paulina and Amy Crosson, we will soon be eating from our own garden!

Today for lunch we served black beans and rice, shredded carrots and corn, and banana/apple fruit salad.

Have a great day!

SORTING!/

MG 9547

We began our day sorting transportation vehicles/bugs/teddy bears into corresponding colored cups.

MG 9551 MG 9549

Using the box of shells Cassie’s mom Michelle brought us (Thanks, Michelle!) we sorted shells by color and texture.

MG 9555

When the swimmers left for the Y, a small group of friends joined to sing “Blue..blue…is the color I see…if you have blue then stand with me…” and we sorted our bodies by the colors we were wearing.

MG 9559

We played our race track music and practiced pushing the ‘green for go’ and ‘red for stop’ pedals taped to the wall.

MG 9560

We enjoyed outside time this morning, experimenting with sand and water in both sandboxes and a couple plastic bins.

For lunch we served peanut butter on whole wheat sandwiches, mixed stir-fry veggies and banana/mandarin orange fruit salad.

Enjoy your day!

WWF Daily Explorations, Tuesday 5.31.11

Today WWF began their morning working with play doh at the kitchen table. They seemed quite intrigued about the way Paulina showed them how to make bowls and shape some mix and cheerios cereal to put in it.
Caelan, Umi and Alma worked very diligently at cleaning up the table after playing with play doh. They used wet towels and hand soap.
Outside time was spent playing with water and sand. Squeezing the wet sand was of special interest as well as pouring sand into different sizes of bucket with water. They played with the ball and sang our “roll the ball” song. To practice different skills we changed the action in the song for bounce and throw.
Reading aloud today included the following titles:
-No Biting by Karen Katz
-My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss
-Belly Button Book by Sandra Boynton
Have a wonderful day!
