As a wolf study finale, Laurie and the children have crafted a creative drama exploration, “Big Bad Wolves at School’, that will occur on Thursday, March 24th at 4:00. If you would like to watch the show, be prepared to move with the actors as this show moves all around our classroom.

Papier-Mache Day!
Brave, brave Laurie took on Papier Mache with the older preschoolers today! It may be the disaster papier-mache “incident” of 1998 (with a group of feisty 3’s and 4’s), but this is one sticky, ooey gooey project that scared me at a new level. However, I am happy to report that with the right kids and papier mache knowledge, this can be a really cool project. I can’t wait to see what the kids decide to do with them!

YMCA Swimming Lessons
Ok, I just need to express how much I enjoy our Tuesdays at the Y with our fabulous swim teachers Leslie and Amy! (Leslie, are you reading this?) This was the first swim session for 2 of the Wee Frienders and it can be overwhelming to the new guys. Amy eased our newbies into the water and after just a few minutes, we had enthusiastic swimmers. While the little ones are getting used to bubbles and bobs, the bigger kids are swimming around like fish. It’s really fun to watch!
Halloween 2010!
Wee Friends, Wee Friends, Mighty Mighty Wee Friends
On the way to the farm today, the older preschoolers and I had a lengthy discussion about the difference between being a “best buddy” and having lots of friends that you choose to be around for different types of play. We decided that we could call all our friends “Wee Friends”! After that, the kids thought we should have a song about our Wee Friends. With the combined musical genious of Laurie (great job on the lyrics!) and Paulina, we now have our WF Song (click here to see a short video of the song). This is my first attempt to post a video, so give me feedback on how it works for you. Also, I’ll try to have a steadier hand on the next one but I am just getting used to the video on my new iphone 4. (Bought just so I can start sharing short videos with you, or so I tell myself:)
A Great Day to be at the Farm!
If you haven’t heard me say it recently, “I LOVE my job!” Today I took five awesome kids down to our beautiful farm on a 68 degree sunshiny fall day. It is a fabulous day to be outdoors. It was even better to be spending this day in the woods, running through the pasture, and on the prairie at the farm.
Today we had very enthusiastic farm workers. They used teamwork to gather eggs and clean all the bunny and chicken cages. We also fed the bunnies and gave them new water. Holding the baby bunny was a highlight for them!
After all that work, we spent a long time pretending to be jumping horses in the pasture. Then we moved on to other fun pursuits like climbing some trees, running down the big hill to the woods, building houses with sticks in the woods, examining the log cabin that is being built, smelling and touching the dried seed heads of the prairie flowers, and finally, letting the wind blow cat tail seeds ALL over everything. The kids finished off the day with a little more tree climbing before we left! Check out our photos of the rest of our trip under the photo tab (WF Farm 10-25-10).

Our New Friend
For the past week, the kids have enjoyed reading several different scarecrow stories. While at the farm yesterday, the kids collected hay and stuffed a child sized scarecrow! He now resides at Wee Friends and is making his way through our program. So far he has played in housekeeping, written a journal with the pre-K’s, talked to the frogs, and said goodbye at the door. It will be fun to track his activities this week…well, at least until his head rots off.
