Good Afternoon!

After we read ‘Great Day For Up!’ by Dr. Seuss, we focused on the two words ‘push’ and ‘pull’. Children in K/PREK1 group worked together to define both of the words which I wrote under the notecard.

After we defined both words, we sorted many activities into one of the two categories. The first activity we had to sort was ‘move furniture’. Children thought about it for a few seconds and eventually said to put it in the ‘push’ category! Once we sorted all of the activities, they counted how many cards were in each category. It’s one of our favorite things to do in group; count the groups or categories to see which one is in the lead!

Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.

In PREK2, children worked together to put animals in order from fastest to slowest (picture on the left). Miss Kim revealed how fast animals do move and the correct order. They also talked about how animals move differently such as run, fly, etc.

IMG_6615IMG_6616

A sensory activity was made available at the art table. Children loved exploring shaving cream and running their fingers and hands along the tray. A few small animals were placed on the tray so that children could wash them. A couple kids decided to write their names in the shaving cream too!

The cube area is a great place for friends to lie down if they need a little alone time, just want to be snuggles up, or even play by themselves for a little while Smile This area is one of Emma’s favorite spots as she really enjoys the pillows.

Good Afternoon!

This week, we’re talking all things motion! Mack and Evie had to put in order various body movements from slowest to fastest for their kindergarten sign in activity.

Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.

IMG_6417IMG_6426

There were nine items from throughout the environment that we focused on today for K/PREK1 group! I read aloud each word card and children worked together to sort them into two categories: things that WILL roll and things that WILL NOT roll. We made the list prior to testing out our guesses!

After we sent an item down the ramp, we placed a checkmark next to the item if we were right. The group was correct about every single guess!

At the end, several children shared that the items that rolled were all round and sphere shaped.

As Miss Kim’s PREK2 group got to school this morning, she asked them to go find an object in the classroom that they think will roll.

All of their objects that they chose rolled down the ramp!

We have a special event coming up in a few weeks so children came to the table today to practice their pouring skills! They LOVED transferring water from glasses to pitcher and back again.

We headed outside for a bit before lunch. A few friends gathered around an ant hill that they found by the garage. This led into a conversation about how we treat the various creatures in our backyard environment.

Good Afternoon and Happy Monday! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful, warm weekend.

Today we all engaged in puzzles that were age appropriate for all of us. We loved manipulating and using our cognitive skills to place the pieces into their correct spots.

Then we were able to get outdoors to enjoy the environment with the big kids from the preschool classroom. We were active in many activities.

Happy Friday!

We read, ‘Spring’ and ‘A Swim’ in K/PREK1 group from a Frog and Toad book. Both short stories revolved around weather and a certain time of the year.

‘Spring’ was about Frog and Toad coming out of hibernation and exploring the outdoors since it had warmed up and the snow had melted. Friends were quick to point out that we are in the same month that Frog and Toad were in during the story: April!

All week, we’ve been talking about weather changes and how it affects us. Just like today’s forecast and tomorrow’s forecast: completely different which allows us to do a wider range of activity outside!

Science: K.3.5 Describe and give examples of weather changes and illustrate how weather affects people and the environment.

In PREK2 group, children were able to explore what a tornado looks like using a bottle creation that Miss Kim made!

Several children in our K/PREK1 group love playing memory games! This morning, we got out the memory game that focuses on rhyming words! A few of their younger peers sat in and played as they teamed up in groups of two or three.

It was a great combination of competitiveness and cooperation as children were cheering each other on when they found a match.

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

Today we painted with purple, yellow, red, blue and green. However, we used something a little different to paint with that the kids were rather excited about…..Q_tips!

To get started Ms. Bekah placed the same color of paint by each child that had that same color for their tray, then we switched colors with our friends as we went along.

Then, we read some teacher stories before making a quick attempt to get some fresh air.

IMG_5140IMG_5139

When we headed outside, it wasn’t raining, then it quickly changed. We didn’t let a little rain stop us though. We took quite a few laps around the smaller concrete circle down below, while the pre-school classroom was running around the larger circle. Smile

Good Afternoon!

Evie and Mack answered questions relating to weather and the correlating months and seasons. For example, one of the questions was, “What season do flowers start to bloom?”. Both children answered spring and proceeded to write out their answer. We talked about how the weather affects us as well as weather specific things that happen in each season.

Science: K.3.5 Describe and give examples of weather changes and illustrate how weather affects people and the environment.

Yesterday in K/PREK1 group, we played a sorting game revolving around weather. There were seven cards that children used to sort weather images. The seven cards were: sunny, windy, rainy, snowy, stormy, foggy, and cloudy.

This morning, Mack and Daniel asked if they could play the game again! They tried their hardest to fill up the sunny and stormy card first.

In PREK2 group, children did a science experiment to explore how rain falls from clouds! They LOVED it and were very inquisitive.

IMG_6324IMG_6327IMG_6326

Children got to come to the art table to make their own rain stick! They each got the opportunity to put ten rubber bands on their rain stick so that when they painted it, it made a distinct design!
