Happy Rainy Friday!

PLEASE NOTE: A friendly reminder… Wee Friends will be closed starting next Thursday, July 1st through July 11th for our annual summer vacation. We will resume on July 12th.

We had a multitude of fun and engaging activities today that helped us beat our rainy day blues.

Miss Bekah mixed water and shaving cream in our red bins for us to have water and sensory play all in one activity. She asked friends to find the toothbrush that was hidden in the mixture! They all found their brushes and were very excited! Smile

We then went onto having a dance party! One of our favorite songs came on. Hair Up, off the Trolls soundtrack. As we listened and danced to this particular song we all put our hair up in the sky like the song was saying.

Then, we had some tunnel time. We used our gross motor skills to crawl quickly through the colorful tunnel.

Good Afternoon!

**Please bring in a white t-shirt for your child by Monday, June 28th. Thanks!

Children asked for the kinetic sand shortly after breakfast. The sensory bin stayed full as children filtered in and out. The kinetic sand has been one of our favorite sensory experiences!

Right now, we have sand experiences outside and inside. Our outdoor sandbox is always full of children, exploring the sandbox and creating tons of new and interesting structures. Below is a short article that gives reasons as to why sand and water experiences are important for development.

Some of our herbs are coming in! A few friends got to try the cilantro and kale while others smelled the basil and dill.

We looked at how the tomatoes are coming in—we are so excited to be able to pick vegetables when they’re ready.

Good Afternoon.

Today we were reading a “teacher book” by the name of Mmmm, Cookies by Robert Munsch. This is a very silly story that talked about play clay. When Miss Rebekah finished reading, Nesta asked if she and her friends could have some play clay? Miss Rebekah explained to her that play clay is another name for playdoh and we had that to play with. So we then all went quickly to the kitchen to engage in our “play clay.” Smile

During outside play we all had a great time engaging ourselves in many gross motor activities.

Adrian was all smiles sliding down the slide on his belly and running quickly around the environment. While Nesta and a friend had fun teeter-tottering.

Good Afternoon!

When we were cleaning up the yard yesterday from the storm that went through Sunday evening, Miss Annastecia collected some leaves to use for an art project.

Today, children had the opportunity to come to the table and create leaf prints using a leaf of their choosing and tempera paint.

DSCN6931DSCN6946DSCN6965

Two of our older children asked for the colored pattern blocks, which is one of our favorite table activities. They each chose a different pattern and completed the puzzle. Before they completed their puzzles, Franklin explored using the blocks in a vertical way. He placed the pattern blocks on the table and built upwards.

We were excited to head outside this morning! Children scattered throughout the yard, heading in all different directions. A couple friends stationed themselves in the sandbox while others tested their gross motor abilities by running throughout the outdoor environment. With the recent rain we’ve gotten, a variety of bugs are out which quickly occupy our bug jars!

Good Afternoon. I hope everyone is enjoying their day! It’s beautiful again today.

Friends enjoyed engaging in one of  loose wooden part activity today. (Nifty System)  Nesta would line hers up in a row while others used their bulldozer truck to plow over their parts.

Friends utilize their fine motor, cognitive and spatial skills while having a great time with this activity.

During outdoor time the sandbox was the place too be. Friends scooped, dug and packed down the sand in their John Deere truck, pans and buckets. This fun sensory experience is a daily enjoyment, especially when the sand is a little damp.

Happy Monday!

***PLEASE BRING A WHITE T-SHIRT FOR YOUR WEE FRIEND BY NEXT MONDAY, JUNE 28  FOR AN ART ACTIVITY! THANKS!***

We just finished up chapter 11 in Charlotte’s Web in K group! There are a few friends who have read it before and they’re able to recall very important, specific events before they occur. Every other day, we’ve been adding to our character chart with notable events or character traits that come up in the story.

PREK2 friends put on 3-D glasses as a tool as they read, ‘Creepiest Creatures of the Deep!’ It was a new and fun venture that the three PREK2 members got to explore!

DSCN6908DSCN6910

Our Monday morning was one in which children became involved in various activities and stayed engaged until we went outside. A few friends were at the art table, a group was on the building rug exploring Magnatiles, and a few kids played  a board game at the circle table.

Over the last few months, we’ve really seen a shift in children’s ability to stay at an activity for an extended period of time. We see a lot of instances throughout the day where a three year old engages and plays with a five year old peer. The multiage classroom has so many benefits—children playing with other peers outside of their age group is one of them! Each child in the relationship has things to add, making it a great learning experience.

DSCN6753DSCN6764

DSCN6769DSCN6784

We went outside and found that several small tree branches had been knocked to the ground during the storm last night. A group of friends went around and picked up these branches (completely self initiated)  so we could put them into the yard waste bin.

Children of all ages became quite the little helpers this morning as we weeded the garden. They were given instructions as to what weeds looked like and what growing plants looked like. The garden beds look much better and it’s all thanks to the hard working hands of our kids!

An observer that was here last week asked when we go outside and for how long. I answered and after thinking about it, realized (for the umpteenth time) that we are so lucky— we can spend as much outside time as we want. As I was strolling through Teacher Tom’s blogpost from today, it centered around the topic of outdoor play.

“The average American child spends 4-7 minutes a day in unstructured play outdoors. Why so little? The main theory blames screen-based technologies, but when I asked the same kids in the same survey if they would rather play with their friends, play a video game, or watch TV, nearly all answered, “Play with my friends.” (Although one thoughtful respondent summed it all up by saying, “I would rather play video games outside with my friends.”)”

“Studies consistently show that kids who spend more time outside are smarter and happier. They are more attentive and less anxious. They are more confident, more creative, demonstrate a greater sense of responsibility, and, of course, being outdoors promotes overall physical fitness. But I think most of us know this. It’s almost common knowledge, yet the kids are still only getting 4-7 minutes a day outside.”

Being connected to the outdoors, free to run and jump and play is one of the greatest gifts.

Good Afternoon. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and Father’s Day!

I would like to say Thank You to all of you for the “thinking of me” texts/calls and the dinners that were delivered to my home, the in person visits and the wonderful gifts that were waiting for me when I retuned. You are all the absolute BEST!!! I am so happy to be back, I missed you all.

Friends really enjoyed sliding down the indoor slide on their bellies, while the littler ones enjoyed crawling/walking to the slide to go down on their bottoms.

The habi-trail area is a great gross motor activity that we all love to engage in.We all seem to find the slide is the best part!

We then went into the kitchen to finger paint with multiple colors. We used yellow, blue and red.   This amazing sensory activity was so much fun and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Getting our fingers and hands in the soft silky texture of the paint makes us happy. Smile

During outdoor play a couple friends engaged in running around the upper section of the play area. We got our bodies in motion and worked to strengthen our muscles.
