Good Afternoon!

In K group, we read, ‘50 Below Zero’ which is a story about a little boy who’s father sleep walks out into the cold and becomes frozen! Thankfully, his son gets his home and puts him in a warm bath! This lead into a conversation about the words ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ during group.

We worked together, taking turns to come up with a word that we correlate with ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ as well as ‘long’ and ‘short’.

K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

In PREK2, children worked together to sort various pictures starting with the coldest and ending with the hottest!

A friend had asked to play Go Fish shortly after breakfast. This lead to a few rounds with six players! Our older friends did a fantastic job at guiding their younger peers and explaining the rules and objectives to the game.

Good Afternoon.

Friends really enjoyed engaging in puzzles this morning. Some puzzles were the four piece style and other puzzles a little more difficult with nine pieces.

Friends are using their cognitive skills when trying to figure out where the specific pieces go. Their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills are also being enhanced.

Happy Monday!

These last few months have been very different and while we were at home earlier this year, all of the children received the book ‘The Invisible String’ in the mail. We LOVE this book. It does a great job at explaining that even though you’re not close to someone, they’re still in your hear: you’re connected to that person by an invisible string.

After we read the story in K group, each friend pulled a string from the pile in my hand and once everyone had a piece of string, we sorted the pieces from shortest to longest! Even by just an eyeball glance, children put the string pieces into the correct order.

K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

DSCN7294DSCN7299

In PREK2, children chose two objects: one from the tray and one from the black bucket. They held each item in their hand and told Miss Kim which object was heavier!

DSCN7289DSCN7288DSCN7291

Children flocked to the welcome activity that revolved around various cardboard pieces, hammers, and golf tees. Children chose the cardboard piece they’d like to explore and used their hammer to pound the golf tees into the cardboard.

Happy Friday!

Throughout the week, we’ve been focusing on clocks and calendars in K group and today, we focused specifically on the days of the week. We put the days of the week on the chalkboard in the order that we saw them on the calendar.

At this age, children associate days of the week with special events or something that’s important to them! “Monday’s are pasta day!” a friend shared and another friend added, “Friday’s are my gymnastics day!”

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

In PREK2, children read, ‘Room on the Broom’. Afterwards, they worked together to put the events that happened in the story in order.

The rest of our Friday was consumed with stories in the reading area, tons of art creations using markers, scissors, glue, and beads for bracelets!

Happy Friday!

Today with lower numbers, we were able to fit everyone in 2 wagons and go on a wagon ride around the block.  While on our walk, we looked for beautiful Fall colors appearing in the trees.  We saw red, yellow and orange leaves.  We also found many houses that were decorated for Fall and Halloween.  We saw lots and lots of pumpkins, both big and small. We had a great ride!

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘Up, Up, Down’ in K group. After I said the title of the story aloud, Mack said, “Hey! Robert Munsch is the author of that book.”

Once we were done reading, I read four sentences strips and friends told me which event came first. I taped each sentence strip in the correct order and when we finished, Franklin asked, “Can we read both stories from today and yesterday to make one story?”—it ended up being a funny idea!

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

DSCN7106

The rest of our morning was consumed with magnatiles, stories, creations at the art table, and exploration of our new playdough!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we had a great time engaging with the colorful stacking puzzle activity.

This activity has multi function learning to it. We can learn what shape we are trying to stack, we can learn the color of the shape, and we can work on understanding the sequence of how the shapes are stacked from largest to smallest. We also can incorporate utilizing our hand-eye coordination skills.

PA080898PA080902

Miss Annastecia worked with our friend Adrian on making a train track. They made their track and then Adrian happily rolled his cars and trucks around their track. He was quite happy with himself.

This activity can be a great confidence booster for our little ones. When they successfully get their track pieces to fit together, the smiles are in abundance.

Happy Wednesday.

Friends really enjoyed the permanence boxes.

This activity enhances our hand-eye coordination, fine motor and color recognition skills. We take either the small balls or the circular coins and put them into their slots to watch as they roll down into the box portion. We LOVE these!!!

PA070826PA070825PA070822

We then headed into the kitchen to do an activity with leaves and glue.

We collected leaves the other day that were falling off of our beautiful shade tree in the back yard to make a leaf collage.

This activity also enhances our hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as well as our sensory skills.

You can see our finished collages hanging on the windows throughout the classroom.
