Good Afternoon and Happy March!

This morning Ellie and Caroline experimented with a science activity that involved magnets. They would take the small round circles with the magnetic wands and move them around on their colorful trays. Marbles were also part of this fun activity!

We then headed outside for some fun in the sun! We did have some briskness to the air, but we LOVED every second being outdoors. We also really enjoyed engaging with some friends in the preschool classroom.

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 children dove into the story, ‘The Day The Crayons Came Home’. We’ve read, ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’ which is the first story around this theme. We talked about letters and what’s included. Penny asked what the address portion of the postcard is used for.

Afterwards, each child picked a white piece of paper with an image on it. They looked at the patterns on the chalkboard and figured out what pattern their white card completed. Once they completed their pattern by taping the piece of paper at the end, they stated the pattern aloud. For instance, Grady had the green, blank circle and relayed the pattern: “Full circle, blank circle, full circle, blank circle, full circle, blank circle”.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

DSCN1005

After reading ‘Parker Looks Up’, PREK2 children graphed which image they liked best. According to the graph, children preferred the ‘Michelle Obama’ image more than slimy fish, jeweled necklace, and horses.

DSCN1006

The morning activity focused on different shapes made out of colored tape. Children took it upon themselves to trace the shapes using colored gems. Penny used her gems and implemented a pattern along the triangle.

Good Afternoon.

We added a little cold excitement to our sensory table today! Since it has been so very cold for us to go outside and play in the snow, we brought the snow into us! Smile

Friends were so excited! We spoke about the temperature of the snow, the color of the snow and if we could eat the snow!

Hello!

We want to wish Sophia a HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY! We hope you had the best day!

DSCN0844DSCN0808

In K/PREK1, we read ‘Stick and Stone’ which is from our MACK book collection. Throughout the story, Stick and Stone help each other out in certain ways. For example, Stick held a bubble wand so that Stone could blow the bubbles. Without Sticks help, Stone wouldn’t have been able to do this because he doesn’t have arms.

We talked about different attributes that each character had such as Stone being wider and Stick who is taller. We discussed how these attributes help them as well as prohibit them from doing activities or movements.

K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, and holds more.

After breakfast, Miss Kim read ‘Rosie Revere Engineer’. Children have been interested in space lately so we explored the concept of movement using a variety of tools including balloons, straws, tape, paper, and markers.

Friends blew up their balloon and created their own rocket to see how they move.

Good Afternoon!

Our MACK focus this week is:

Children will learn about kindness and the power of positive words.

In K/PREK1, we read ‘Down the Road’ which focuses on the main character, Hetty, as well as her two parents. Before we started reading the book, we looked at the front cover and came up with different ideas on what the book could be about since no one had read it before!

After several friends shared their theories, we dove into the book.

DSCN0713

Hetty, the main character, was never able to do chores by herself until one day, she was told she could go buy eggs by herself for scrambled eggs the next morning. Once she purchased a dozen eggs, she was walking home. She wasn’t paying attention to where she was walking and the author mentioned a big rock coming up on the path.

Children observed the picture and shared their predictions on what could happen to Hetty and the eggs that were in her basket. Hetty ended up falling and the eggs fell to the ground but there were zero cracks on the eggs!

DSCN0714DSCN0715

When she was almost home, Hetty noticed a big, red apple tree so she stopped to pick a few apples. As you can see in the picture, the egg basket started to tip so again, we used the picture as well as our knowledge of Hetty to determine what may happen next.

This time, the eggs weren’t so lucky!

Children predicted several events within the story and once we found out what actually happened, we heard, “That’s what I thought would happen!” several times. We loved the anticipation of not knowing what was going to happen until we turned the page.

K.RL.2.4: Make predictions about what will happen in a story.

DSCN0716DSCN0717

Friends came to the art table to explore painting with a different utensil. Today’s focus was manipulating and moving paint with gift cards! We saw different strategies for how to move the paint around the paper.

DSCN0658DSCN0661DSCN0667

“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, or a duty. It should be offered as a gift.”
