We were able to go outdoors and enjoy some snow play!

We were super excited not only to go outside but that there was snow falling from the sky. We rolled and packed snowballs, ate the snow, and of course we had to try and catch the falling snowflakes from the sky. Smile What a GREAT day!!!!

Happy Friday!

Our MACK this week has focused of mindful strategies:

Children will practice mindfulness strategies to calm their minds, calm their bodies, and to increase their concentration and attention. Strategies can include visualization, breathing, and movement exercises.

In K/PREK1, we read ‘I Can Do It!’ which focuses on ways to handle different situations. For example, the main character in the story was frustrated with his younger sister and came up with ways to solve the problem.

We continued group by doing an activity that revolved around rhyming words and memory. Each member got two cards. A group of cards were placed in the middle of the circle and each friend got a turn to flip a card over, see if it was a match to either of their cards, and if not, they put the card back.

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

Children were offered an art opportunity this morning. Friends painted the bottom of muffin tins and created a paint print by pressing a piece of paper onto the painted muffin tins.

Happy Friday!  I hope you have all had a great week.

Today the classroom was full of random activities that were enjoyed.

One of our favorites was the tape track that Miss Rebekah made for us to glide our cars, trucks and trains across.

Good Afternoon!

*Reminder: The ‘Conference Scheduling Sheet’ is due tomorrow, Friday January 24th. Thank you!

Before I started reading, ‘Bear Can’t Sleep’, a friend noticed that on the spine, there was a ‘W’ at the bottom. This friend quickly shared where we could find it at the library: “This book would be in the W section because of the author’s last name!”

We looked at the cover on the book and identified the authors name which is Karma Wilson. Our trip to the library last week is still fresh in our minds and the knowledge that we picked up there is evident by children sharing information like this is our K/PREK1 time!

Before transitioning to our journal experience, children were given a 2-D shape and they had to tell me what group it went into. We sorted the 2-D shape by the number of sides that each shape has.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

In PREK2 group, each child was given two uppercase letters and they had to draw a line to the lowercase match.

The rest of our day was full of creative expression and laughter with peers.

We hope you had a terrific Thursday!

Happy Snowy Thursday!

Today while Miss Annastecia was in our classroom we did a fun and exciting sensory activity! Bubble wrap painting. We were very excited and curious about this unique activity that she had in store for us. Smile

We first painted the large bubble wrap section and we then put a piece of white paper on top of the wrap and pressed it down firmly on the wrap to allow the paint to soak into our papers. There were even times we heard a loud POP!!! That was exciting for sure!!

Good Afternoon!

Our K/PREK1 had two parts: first, each friend was given a word (black marker) and they had to come up with a word that rhymed with that word (green marker). One of our FAB’s this week focuses on rhyming words which take place randomly throughout our day because rhyming is quite fun! Children are quick to point out in stories when they notice rhyming words. It’s a fun way to play with words while also strengthening understanding of rhymes.

The second part was looking back at the shapes from yesterday that we talked about. Before each child rolled up their mat before journal time, I gave one shape to identify to each group member. Friends came up to the board one at a time to identify their shape.

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

Penny had been telling us about a book she has at home that focuses on the body: specifically, what’s inside the body. Using various books as resources, we worked together to create our own body! We used materials such as cotton swabs, yarn, pipe cleaners, plastic lids, and straws to create a body replica.

Cotton swabs = bones

Yellow yarn = intestines

Cotton balls = brain

Lids = pelvis

Friends really had to use their imagination to come up with items that would represent organs that were discussed.

We hear, “Can I play with you?” several times a day. I found this Teacher Tom blog today and found it extremely interesting how he was able to change the environment (or the words used) to get a different outcome.

Good Afternoon.

Today we engaged in a couple of different sensory/fine motor activities. We enjoyed scooping and sorting our puff balls by color and also by selecting a different amount of balls to place into our bowls and cups.

We then scooped some more in the sensory bin with the colorful rice mixture. we also utilized out hand- eye coordination with these activities.
