Good Afternoon!

We’re continuing to dive into our new MACK curriculum books in K/PREK1 and today, we read ‘Good People Everywhere’ which gave several examples of good and thoughtful choices that people make throughout the day. A few children commented on the beautiful illustrations.

Yesterday at the end of group, the kindergarteners started discussing verbs and how they’re used. Today, each child picked a card that hard a verb on it. Penny assisted every friend by reading their word. Once they found out their word, they used it in a sentence!

K.W.6.1b: Verbs–Writing sentences that include verbs.

In PREK2, each child was assigned a word. They changed the first letter of their word, creating a new word! Once their new word was made, they read it aloud. Mack changed his word from ‘bus’ to ‘hus’.

The temperatures finally warmed up enough this morning to explore our first snow of the year! Friends quickly found out that a cold, snow covered slide allows them to move EXTREMELY fast! After being inside for the last several days, fresh air felt fantastic!

When we came in, friends scattered throughout the house–

Penny and a few peers requested beads at the art table. Patterns were incorporated as they created bracelets.

Evie and Daniel chose dress up costumes that were a great extension to their housekeeping play!

Grady, Mack, and David asked for math manipulatives from the shelf. They switched and shared the three different activities. They used their addition knowledge as well as their one to one correspondence skills to explore each activity.

Good Afternoon. I hope you are all staying warm.

This morning we happily engaged in a fun sensory activity that brought nothing but smiles to our faces.. Shaving cream play Smile

We added in some of our cars and trucks and glitter to enhance our experience. We washed the cars and zoomed them in the cream to make tracks and of course we had fun just simply  smooshing the cream together in our hands.

We then enjoyed some quiet time reading to one another and having teachers read to us.

Good Afternoon!

The kindergartener’s sign in this morning dealt with rhyming words and creating new words by adding, deleting, or substituting letters. Each child was given at least two words and they had to write two rhyming words below. During K/PREK1, each kindergartener got the chance to say what their two or three words were as well as the rhyming words they created.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

In K/PREK2, children worked together to fill in the blank spaces in a short story about a turkey! Each blank space required a verb to be used so before beginning, Miss Kim shared examples of verbs and the purpose they serve.

Sophia and Emma interacted with the morning provocation where they took different wood pieces to make their own winter wonderland. Emma shared that she made a few snowflakes, a tree, and clouds.

We sure do have a puzzle loving group! Our 48 piece puzzles are becoming quite simple for most of our friends so several 100 piece puzzles were brought up this morning, offering more of a challenge!

Good Afternoon!

Our MACK for the week is: Children will learn to define gratitude and thankfulness and how to recognize the people and things they are grateful for in their own lives.

In K/PREK1, we read, ‘The Awesome Book of Thanks’. It starts out with certain things that we didn’t use to have such as people and cars but it dives deep into all of the things that we should be grateful and thankful for now. Almost every page, children were raising their hands, sharing a thought or asking a question based on something they saw on the page.

Afterwards, each child got a specific number where they had to identify the number that comes before and the number that comes after it. For our younger friends, they used the number line on the top of the chalk board for help!

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

DSCN5571DSCN5574

In PREK2, each child rolled the blue die and put that many snowflakes in front of them. Miss Kim gave them a number and they took that number and added that number of snowflakes to the snowflake group already in front of them. For example, Mack rolled a ‘3’. He put 3 snowflakes in front of him. Miss Kim gave him the number ‘3’ so he added 3 more snowflakes, making 6 total snowflakes.

DSCN3310DSCN3303

Our weather this morning prompted an art activity where children got the opportunity to paint wooden snowflakes using different shades of blue as well as adding glitter! As children were painting their snowflakes, questions would arise about snowflakes which allowed us to read about them during this time!

Good Afternoon!

**Please make sure your child’s labeled snow gear (snow pants, snow boots, gloves, hat, winter coat) is at school by tomorrow morning in case we decide to explore outside! Thank you!

Daniel started off his birthday by receiving a card from his friend, Evie! We hope Daniel was able to have the best 3rd birthday!

DSCN5440DSCN5442

We read, ‘Three Cheers for Tacky’ in K/PREK1 and when I opened the first page, N shared, “Hey! It’s snowing in the book too!”

Afterwards, each child solved a specific equation. This week, we’re working on finding an unknown number when the total is 10. For this exercise, we used our fingers—this works well because we have ten fingers! Each child put up the correct number of fingers and had to determine how many fingers were left to make 10. When they came to the right number, they came up and identified the number in a pile and taped it to the chalkboard.

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

DSCN5519

DSCN5527DSCN5526

In PREK2, Miss Kim gave each child a specific number of buttons. She then took a certain number away, requiring children to count the total number left.

DSCN5510DSCN5513

Our snowy morning was full of shapes turned into trees, pegs turned into steps, and piano keys turned into music.

Happy Veterans Day to all of you who are serving, may have served, or know someone special that has served! Thank you all for your service.

Please Note: If you have not signed up for our Wee Texts that notify you of possible closings and or delays, please do this ASAP. Text 81010 and type in @weefr in the message area.

With the inclement weather upon us, when South Bend or Mishawka schools close, Tami will send out a mass text to all letting you know if Wee Friends has decided to either close or delay until 10:00 am.

Today we had fun in the sensory table. We love to scoop with spoons, pick the Indian corn apart with our fingers and use the small cups to hold all of our corn.

PB110104PB110107

We then moved onto some fine motor enjoyment. We manipulated our hands with puzzles and our fun number/peg boards. We can also learn a little math while engaging in this fun activity. We have conversations with the children about how many red pegs they have in a block and if they can find the number of pegs that represents their age.
