Happy Wednesday!

“Children love to be alone, because alone is where they know themselves, and where they dream.” ~Roger Rosenblatt

Please Note: Wee Friends classrooms will be closed for the upcoming summer break from June 25th to July 5th. We will re-open on July 8th.

When we have infants in the classroom, we always love to watch them grow and develop into awesome little people that achieve so many wonderful and exciting milestones!

Well, today Miss Nesta achieved a very BIG milestone… She figured out how to climb up the habi-trail slide and get herself all the way to the top. Just look at that happy face when she conquered her goal. Smile

Daniel and Evie showed interest in the rhythm sticks today and asked if we could also listen to music. So what better way to get our musical senses in motion?? We listen to Hap Palmers… Tap your sticks.

We all had a fabulous time listening to Hap’s words telling us where to place our sticks. We were learning how to follow directions given to us, all while having fun!  What’s better than that?!?!?

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 looked at the physical characteristics between a world map and a globe. Afterwards, we sorted these words into four categories. At the end, several friends shouted, “We have a tie!”. We were able to distinguish between what we saw on a map versus on a globe.

Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

PREK2 members looked at a map of places that you’d see around town. Lines were drawn from place to place to show the route that was taken!

Max and Grady explored letters at the island this morning in various ways.

Max asked for the Montessori letters. He spelled words that he knew and then used a dry erase marker to write down the word. As Grady completed his alphabet puzzle, he identified the letter as well as the sound it made. Max and Grady helped one another if they needed some assistance!

Children gathered at the art table where they used leaves and paint to make prints! Large pieces of paper were taped to the table so that friends could make a group creation.

“It must not be forgotten that the basic law of children’s creativity is that its value lies not in its results, not in the product of creation, but in the process itself. It is not important what children crate, but that they do create, that they exercise and implement their creative imagination.”

Happy Friday!

DSCN0329DSCN0344

Our morning started out rainy, so there was lots of Lego building and play dough creations.

DSCN0350DSCN0355

We got out a Disney CD and of course, a dance party ensued! The large group came up with the idea to form a circle around a friend and dance around them. They each took turns on who got to be in the middle.

A dance party is no fun without instruments. Franklin and his friends got out the rhythm sticks to keep the beat with the music. Ms. Melinda got to see their skills, and commented on how well they were able to stay on beat.

We finally did make it outside. Emma and her friends went to the kitchen to make cookies for their family. Some of our older friends got together to play a game of soccer.

Breakfast: Brown rice cakes with peanut butter & raisins

Wee sprouts: Organic carrots, sugar snap peas, & cucumber

Lunch: Whole wheat flatbread with ham & cheese, cucumbers, &  fresh watermelon

PM Snack: Goldfish, Colby Jack cheese, &  watermelon

All of us at Wee Friends wish you a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Good Afternoon. I hope you all had a great week.

“The children are the curriculum.” ~Lisa Murphy

Please Note: WWF is closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen Tuesday, May 28th.

We want to wish one of our friend’s a Happy second Birthday today! Smile

We all enjoyed stepping, jumping and hopping on our colorful and very fun stepping square water mats. We decided to place all them in a four and six way patterned sequence so we could also utilize them along side our big block and soft star play.

What a great way to get our bodies in motion and utilize our gross motor enjoyment.

We were very happy it stopped raining long enough this morning so we could enjoy seeing our older Wee Friends from the pre-school classroom and get some fresh air.

Good Afternoon!

There are several social conflicts every single day. Some small. Some big. Some are put out without any teacher involvement while a few may need teacher assistance.

Whatever the circumstance, our end goal is to solve the problem while offering different solutions along with various phrases so that next time, children have a variety of appropriate words to use.

This morning, two friends were playing in the housekeeping area. One child had the cat stuffed animal and all of a sudden, a friend took it out of her hands. This obviously made the child upset but she was able to use her words saying, “That was in my hand! I had it first.”

As I made my way over there, the other child proclaimed, “But I want it.”

Through talking about it, the friend with the cat handed her peer another stuffed animal that she had which made each friend very happy! Even though I was in the vicinity, the two children ended up solving the problem by themselves.

What was I going to say to her? Maybe I was going to remind her of the rules we had all agreed to some weeks ago, specifically mentioning the one that goes, “No pushing.” I might have been preparing to say something like, “When you pushed his face, you hurt him.” She walked slowly away from me, her shoulders hunched forward. When she got to a corner formed by a railing and a random cart that has found its way onto our playground, she knelt on her knees, nose in the corner.”

“I didn’t say anything to the girl because, frankly, there was nothing to say. Or rather, anything I said would be redundant at best. There was no question that she was already feeling remorse, regretting her action, mulling it over in the quiet of the corner she had found for herself. I stepped away and left her to her conscience.”

Happy Wednesday.

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. ~Albert Einstein

Friends were very happy about getting messy with the soft and cool sensation of the moon sand today. This is by far one of our favorite sensory activities to engage in.

Teachers always add in all types of items to enhance our play. Today we used spoons, colorful bowls, cups, small and large scoopers as well as plastic egg halves. We had a BLAST!!!

As our day progressed, we ventured outside and started looking for all types of creepy crawly bugs.

We love to lift rocks, and the flat rubber mats to find said bugs… as we all know that is where our little bug creatures like to hide.  They are never safe for too long though with the Wee Wee’s on the “bug” case. Smile  We always find them and put them in our bug catchers to show all of our friends.

DSCN5730DSCN5735

We also got our bodies in gross motor action by climbing the ever so popular log climbing house! We even had two of our littlest Wee’s climb up and conquer the climbing challenge.
