Ruby and Anna played with the new puzzles this morning. Anna’s favorite is the bug puzzle. Ruby enjoyed playing with the animal pieces.

We had music time this afternoon. Our friends really enjoy the wall xylophone. They tap and slide shakers and drumsticks against it to make noise. They also asked for the pianos and other xylophones.

WF Wednesday 1/6

Although the cold temperature kept us from going outside this morning, we kept busy inside with a wide variety of learning experiences today!

From exploring the piano to creating with dot paints, friends were thoroughly engaged in the activities of their chosing. Many friends chose to work with play dough, making everything from crabs to cookies. The open-ended nature of play dough allows children to creatively express themselves! While some friends created objects, others simply enjoyed the feeling of the playdough between their fingers.

Today we also had the opportunity to explore a pomegranate! When first presented with the fruit and asked to guess what it was, many friends said it was a beet.

DSCN0267

So it was quite a surprise to see all the seeds inside the pomegranate. Friends worked really hard to squeeze the seeds out. Eventually a wooden spoon was used to bang the seeds out of the flesh too.

Many friends discovered they LOVED the taste of pomegranate seeds. They were all gone in about five mintues!

Our friends had fun together in the gross motor area today. Anna’s new favorite thing to do is climb into the tunnel on her own. Everyone was using their muscles to climb on the soft stars and steps!

Maggie tried to climb up the slide to join her friends, but it was a little too slippery!

Good Afternoon!

It was a morning of team building! Friends used their communication skills to create different structures. The ability to listen to other childrens thoughts and ideas was at an all time high this morning.

DSCN0180DSCN0233

One of our friends came up with the idea of making a long track for different sized balls that we have throughout our environment. The idea grew and grew all morning to the point of extending tubes from the habitrail to the ground. There were a few hiccups but we’re continuing to problem solve with different strategies. I’m sure you’ll see more on this later in the week Smile.

Miss Melinda brought in farm fresh eggs that she received from her son. We researched the type of chicken which is called ‘Aracucana Rooster’. The eggs were all different colors such as blue, pink, and yellow! We boiled them and then had them for afternoon snack! Yum!

Anna figured out how to climb into the tunnel today. David and Ruby came over to see what she was doing and it started a game of peekaboo!

We pulled down the basket of shakers this afternoon. Our friends had fun trying all the different ones to see what sounds they made.

WF Monday 1/4 Happy New Year and Welcome Rosemary!

Welcome back to Wee Friends! We missed you all so much. Hope you had a wonderful holiday season and great start to 2016.

First, we would like to welcome our new friend from next door, Rosemary. She has had a great transition so far, exploring many of WF’s interest areas like the art table and workbench, as well as enjoying our outside time. Our Wee Frienders look forward to more wonderful days learning and growing with Rosemary!

The big highlight of our day was playing outside in the snow!

DSCN0118

One look at our friends’ faces show how much joy the snow brings.

DSCN0148DSCN0134

The first thing most friends do when we head out back is taste the snow. Something about that cold, fresh powder is very appealing to preschoolers!

DSCN0123DSCN0144DSCN0139

Ice-gathering was also a popular activity. When friends would discover another huge piece of ice, they would shout “Look! Ice!” Older friends often helped the younger friends get large pieces of ice out of buckets, truck beds and the see-saw.

DSCN0136DSCN0151

Teamwork was also evident as friends worked together to ride down the hill on sleds. At one point, three friends put their two sleds together to create a “DOUBLE SLED”.

Wee Sprouts: Green beans. Breakfast: Toasted whole wheat bagel with butter and fresh oranges. Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with black beans, carrots and fresh oranges/apples. Snack: Organic whole milk yogurt and pretzels.

WF Weather Closing Information: Remind 101 Service

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that every family signs up for text notification for immediate communication of important or emergency information (closings, etc.).

All weather related closings will be announced via the text service.

If local business and schools (especially South Bend and Mishawaka Schools) are CLOSED or DELAYED, please be on the lookout for a text communication.  I will always communicate no later than 7:00 a.m. if we are delayed/closed.  I will also try and confirm that we are “open” too, if there may be uncertainty.

Text this message: @weefr

To this number: 81010 (works like a traditional 10 digit phone number)

I am hoping for a mild winter where delaying or closing isn’t necessary.  We only close or delay (until 10:00 a.m.) when getting the staff to WF could be dangerous.  It is such a hard decision to make, but I always want to fall on the side of safety for all.

Thanks!

Tami

Today is Truman’s last day at Wee Wee.  Although he wasn’t here all that long, in the short time he was here, he was a wonderful addition to our small little Wee Wee family. He and his family are moving to Toronto. We will truly miss his sweet little smile and gleaming personality around here!

IMG_1277IMG_7592

Today is also Rosemary’s last day. She is graduating over to Wee Friends! She has grown into such an awesome little girl with many special attributes about her. We will miss having her add to the Wee Wee excitement and fun. She will be on to bigger learning activities and flourish very nicely over in Wee Land.

imageIMG_7416

We hope all of you enjoy the holidays! We’ll see you January 4th, 2016!

IMG_7609IMG_7613IMG_7604IMG_7626IMG_7595

Breakfast was corn flakes and kiwi. Lunch consisted of French toast casserole, pears, and mixed vegetables. Afternoon snack was string cheese and pretzels.

Happy holidays!
