Rosemary and Anna enjoyed coloring with chalk this morning. David didn’t feel like drawing, but he had a good time repeatedly dumping the chalk out and putting the pieces back in the bucket.

An activity they always love to do together are the slides. The climb up is just as fun as the ride down!

WF 10/21 Farm Trip

Today was a beautiful day for our trip to the farm. When we first got to the farm, we checked out how the grass seed we spread a couple of weeks ago was doing. It’s growing well!

004

We collected lots of feathers and pet a baby goat.

007015

Next, Ms. Charlotte had lots of very interesting skulls and pelts to show us.

019

Then we ran through some paths made in the fields:

Later, we found that some new tree clippings had been added to these piles since the last time we were at the farm. They were full of chopped pine trees!

091

The smell of pine was so strong and heavenly! We wished we could bottle it up and send it to you via the internet…

These “mountains” were huge (Clara for scale):

It was a wonderful day at the farm, exploring nature, moving our bodies and breathing fresh air. Have a great afternoon! –Jessica

Hello! This morning started out with some focused pattern work:

Journal time:

And play dough!

217

But this afternoon, we were treated to some groundbreaking entertainment! City workers came to work on the sewer lines outside our house and it was fascinating for our friends.

230

The perks of being in a neighborhood setting—witnessing real-life work!

233232

Kindergarten: Today Elizabeth and Elliott continued to work on their stockings. They finished cutting out their fabric and began sewing. There was lots of discussion of the correct size and spacing of stiches!

We have notice how much our friend Truman loves to stand, so we introduced him to the bouncer! It has fine motor activities on it, like a spinner, beads, and a little steering wheel.

IMG_4472IMG_4475

Then a few of us went outside on the bridge to enjoy the nice weather. We played with balls and looked in on our friends next door.

In the afternoon she played with not one, but two shakers!

David asked for the soft slide to be pulled out today in the gross motor area. Climbing up and down it is so enjoyable to him!

Good Afternoon!

It was Tangram Tuesday.

Friends took turns using the tangram outlines and different shapes to complete the tangrams. Not only did friends notice the difference between shape but also color!

007009016

We’re continuing to explore our new scale! Using different items, friends ask the question, “Which side is heavier?”

022025

We worked our legs on our bikes this morning. Active and ‘on the go’ could be used to describe our morning! Smile

WF Monday 10/19

This Week at a Glance:

Tuesday—swim class at the Y

Wednesday—trip to the farm for Group A [Elizabeth, Elliott, Emerson, Daniel, Jackson, Clara, Addi, Eren]. This is potentially our last trip to the farm, dependent on the weather next week!

*Next Friday (October 30th)—the WF Halloween Parade! Next Friday we will have our Halloween parade at 4:00 pm (outside, weather permitting). Parents are welcome to join us as we showcase our costumes and perform a short Halloween song! If children would like to dress up, they can bring their costumes to school and the teachers will help them get dressed before the parade.

Hello! This morning we began to work with the corn kernels we popped off the corn cobs last week. Friends used glue and popsicle sticks to make a design with the kernels. The complexity of friend’s designs varied with age, but everyone was very focused in this fine motor skill work.

018023026

Habitrail was a busy area today as friends worked with cars and explored a toy from the basement, our wooden fire station!

030029038037

Several large creations were made today as well, including a car track and swimming pool complete with a “kiddie pool.”

041

Today for snack the Purple Porch brought us a unique fruit known as a “Jujube”! We learned that the jujube has a small pit and tastes very sweet. After hearing a teacher spell “jujube” out loud, Clara declared, “it has a pattern! J-u-j-u!”

049053

Reactions were mixed with some friends refusing to try, others disliking the taste and some loving the sweet flavor!

055058059

Kindergarten: For kindergarten today Elliott and Elizabeth decided to start a “stocking project.” Today we chose the color felt we wanted to work with, drew a stocking shape and cut it out. Future steps that the two decided on include sewing the stocking together, stuffing it and then taking it home. We will see where this project takes us!

WF Friday 10/16

Happy Friday! Our day has been fabulous.

We worked with our new balancing scale:

011

Created patterns with the Connect 4 game:

036042

Painted:

062

Listened to stories:

089

And rode bikes!

110119

In addition, I (Jessica) may have inadvertently sparked a renewed interested in knitting/crocheting after bringing in some of my personal crochet projects to work on during my break. Today friends were very dedicated in learning (or relearning) how to finger knit! They have all sorts of projects planned for next week.

125124126

Other friends also got in on the yarn action by making some braids.

131129

We got really excited about our finished products!

128

Kindergarten: Today the kindergarteners worked on math FAB K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight and temperature of objects and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more. We started with three different containers and made a prediction about how many cups of water we thought they would hold. Next, we poured water into the container and then the measuring cup. We had to look very close to see what line the water came up to! Then we recorded the actual capacity in our journals.

093095

At the end, Elizabeth and Elliott were able to identify which containers held the most and least, and have a lot of fun while doing it.
