Happy Friday!

001

It was one of those chilly, cloudy mornings. That didn’t keep us from being active.

We played Frisbee. House.

030036

We even worked on our vertical skills.

034035

But then all of a sudden, a few friends felt rain drops. A couple of us automatically went on top of the log house to look for rain clouds.

043

A few more friends joined.

045

Before we knew it, it was a crammed house. Friends gave the thumbs up as they stuck out their tongues trying to catch raindrops.

053051

Of course, when the rain picked up just a tad, there was a mad dash for the house!

055

The chant, “Rain, rain, go away…” could be heard from the corner of the backyard Smile.

Wee Sprouts: Green Beans.

Breakfast: Brown rice cakes with cream cheese and fresh grapes.

Lunch: Farm fresh egg casserole with shredded cheese and bread, PPC watermelon, and cauliflower.

PM Snack: Blue corn chips with refried beans.

WF 10/8 Happy Birthday Elliott!

Today we would like to wish a very happy birthday to our friend Elliott! Your creativity and drive for knowledge inspire all of us every day. Welcome to 6! We are so happy to have you in Wee World.

image059

Today is also my (Miss Jessica) birthday as well! Thanks to all my friends who posed for a picture with my dad who got to visit this morning.

010

Besides celebrating birthdays today we also had a chance to decorate pumpkins. This time instead of paint, we used a variety of brads, googly eyes, feathers, ribbon, etc. to make pumpkin faces. Some of these materials were hard to get onto the pumpkins, so we used a hammer and nails to make pilot holes. Friends rolled with this and worked hard to make their pumpkin the way they wanted!

Kindergarten: An oft-heard phrase among our kindergartners is, “can you take a picture of this?!” This week Jessica taught Elizabeth and Elliott how to use the camera so they could take some pictures of their work themselves. Today they took pictures of their building creation and then decided to use the pictures on the camera as references for their habitrail journals.

048057

Elliott had a unique way of documenting his work: he drew a picture of the camera (and all its buttons) and then drew a picture of the picture on the camera.

058062

Thanks to everyone who made this a great birthday day. Happy Thursday! –Jessica

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Whole Grain Cheerios and fresh oranges. Lunch: Whole grain brown rice with shredded beef and fresh broccoli and grapes. Snack: Homemade pumpkin muffins in honor of Elliott’s birthday and mozzarella cheese sticks!

WF 10/7 Adventures on the Farm

*Just as a reminder, breakfast is served at Wee Friends from 7:45-9:00. If you would like your child to eat breakfast please arrive no later than 9:00 am. This allows children time to get ready for morning activities such as farm and swimming lessons and lets us open up the art table for morning work as well. If children arrive hungry after 9:00, we always have our Wee Sprout fresh vegetables available as well! Thank you for understanding.

Good afternoon! Today was a busy day at the farm.

First, we visited the barn and saw a cow being milked.

078080

We also had the opportunity to pet a four-day-old calf! He was very soft.

083089

Friends noticed a hole in the ceiling of the barn and were very curious. So we went up to the hay loft and saw the huge stacks of hay bales! We discussed how they get hay up into the loft and how they bring it down to feed the animals.

097101

Next, we helped out on a farm project by breaking up clumps of dirt and spreading grass seed for a new path.

103109

We had to spread lots of hay on top to keep the chickens from eating the grass seed and to retain moisture!

118111115116114

We also witnessed how to measure a baby goat’s temperature: you put the thermometer in his or her bottom! A poll during large group today found that 5 of 8 children said seeing this was their favorite thing they did on the farm today.

121122

We also went on a walk and explored milkweed, often opening up the seed pods and throwing the seeds into the air.

126125130

Feeling the silky seeds and trying to catch them in the air was a blast!

138139

We ran through the fields and exercised our bodies.

142149

We used our senses to locate poop and smell seeds!

175174

We love going to the farm!

Hope you have a wonderful day on this sunshine-filled afternoon. –Jessica

Two new toys have been added to the Wee Wee classroom! They are Grimm’s Large Rainbow Conical and Triangular Towers. They are stacking/sorting toys that stimulate children visually and mentally.

IMG_3767

Our friends used reasoning and creative thinking while developing motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These are also helpful tools to learn colors, size, and ordering!

WF Tuesday 10/6

*Announcement: Group A [Elizabeth, Elliott, Emerson, Daniel, Jackson, Clara, Addi, Eren] will be going to the farm tomorrow, Wednesday October 7th.

Good afternoon!

This morning started with an exploration of the pegs. Friends used them in many different ways: sorting them by color, stacking a tower, fitting each peg into a hole and creating a pyramid with every single peg! Open ended materials like these, that can be used in multiple ways, engage friends of multiple ages.

003005012011016

Outside today it was all about the slide and the bikes!

Friends experimented going down the slide in different ways: feet first, on their stomachs and fast or slow. Even a seemingly simple activity such as going down a slide helps children build body awareness and gross motor skills.

052051053

This morning friends waited patiently while the teachers got the bikes out of the garage:

058

Then they got to riding!

070073

So many friends wanted to ride today, there were some traffic jams!

072

But all that exercise was good for our bodies and helped us concentrate during group time after lunch. We love hearing stories about fall!

083079

Kindergarten: Today with swimming lessons, Elliott and Elizabeth completed their kindergarten work separately, each working on a habitrail log of one of their creations. Elliott chose to work with the tiles and created “a wall with steps” while Elizabeth recorded her work with blocks, animals and the farm house. The practice of drawing from real life objects helps improve observational skills and supports the notion that their work is important and deserves recording!

Have a wonderful Tuesday! –Jessica

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Kix and fresh strawberries. Lunch: Whole wheat English muffins with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese, fresh green beans and kiwi/oranges. Snack: Graham crackers and mozzarella string cheese.

Happy Monday!

Pumpkins and bugs. That was our focus this morning. We had a parent AND a teacher bring in small pumpkins for our friends to decorate!

We had a discussion about small, medium, and big. We used multiple pumpkins as our objects. Friends put the pumpkins next to each other and a conversation was had about the characteristics between the pumpkins.

002017

Each child chose their pumpkin and the color they wanted to use to paint their pumpkin. The end result was very individualized to each child Smile.

023028030

While outside, we were SUPER focused on bugs. Finding them. Caring for them. Creating a habitat for them.

052057051

Wee Sprouts-fresh green beans. Breakfast-whole wheat bread with butter and fresh pink pearl apples. Lunch-whole wheat pasta with chicken, oranges, and broccoli/cauliflower. PM snack-organic whole milk yogurt and fresh apples.

IMG_3628IMG_3630

Anna and Rosemary tested what sounds they could produce from the wall xylophone when they hit the different pegs with a drum stick.

IMG_3648IMG_3643

Then friends went outside to ride bikes and race them down the hill!

IMG_3663IMG_3666
