Family. Because Wee Frienders are intimately acquainted with their own families and have a lot of personal knowledge on the subject, family is a topic they are eager to talk about.

Today Owen brought in a special family picture book and shared it with the class. Friends eagerly asked questions about who was in the pictures and some of our younger friends shouted, “Owen!” when they saw a picture of him.

WF Wednesday 6/10 UNO as Art

Yesterday the Wee Friends classroom got a brand new set of UNO cards. Today we asked the question: what should we do with the old tattered and faded deck?

Let’s make art!

One of the great things about emergent curriculum is the ability to utilize a variety of materials when the opportunity arises. We set up paper, glue and the old UNO cards and then let the Wee Frienders create! Throughout this process, conversation flowed around the colors and numbers on the cards, with friends trading with each other to get the specific cards they wanted for their work.

You never know where children’s creativity will take them. Owen made a sun with the yellow UNO cards with wild cards in the middle and was very proud of his work:

In large group today we began discussing family and answered the question: What does family mean to you? Over the next few days we will be talking about different types of families and figuring out similarities/differences between our own families. If you have a family photo to bring in it would be helpful; we can add it to our family wall!

Happy Wednesday!

Friends got the opportunity to go into the kitchen this morning and work with moon sand. We enjoyed scooping the sand with a spoon or shovel and transferring it into a bucket.

Tate and Maya worked with the number cake. They counted with their friends and teachers once they put the cake back together!
