Good Afternoon!

**Since we’re almost in June (already?), which I’m sure will fly by, just a reminder that WWF will have our yearly summer vacation starting Thursday, July 2nd through Friday, July 10th. WWF will reopen Monday, July 13th.

Annabelle started off her day by continuing to master crawling up the slide! After watching a few of her older friends complete the task, she went for it! She enjoyed getting half way up the slide then sliding down on her rear! Friends joined in Smile.

We are still so enthralled in our backyard space.

Friends started to put rocks in the buses, airplanes, and fire trucks. This brings into play the concept of ‘loose parts’ play. For those who aren’t familiar, it’s where materials can be moved, carried, combined, and lined up in many different ways. For example; stones, sand, twigs, balls, and buckets. These materials allow for open-ended play. It’s crucial for our budding imaginations to flourish!

Here’s a link to an article I found that describes what ‘loose parts’ are a little bit more in detail as well as giving many examples.

WF Wednesday 5/27

When the big kids are away, the wee ones will play!

We started with a game that involved finding a number and then jumping on it.

113118

All the movement led friends to ask for music and instruments. We played triangles, shook maracas and danced to songs from Sesame Street, Frozen and Raffi.

132134

We practiced our fine motor skills with some bead work and discussed patterns.

141142

Outside there was lots to explore, including roly polies:

042Today we explored the prairie in a long nature walk.   The temperature was mild and the breeze was glorious.  And we found toads.  Lots of toads.

Other highlights: red winged black birds, a very quick uncatchable frog, an unidentified unique looking beetle, assorted butterflies, moths, dragonflies, marshy wet stomping areas, swaying grasses, pretty flowers, a climbing tree, and mosquitos.

Jessica will send out a classroom blog later today!

Enjoy your day!

WF Friday 5/22

What a beautiful Friday! We took advantage of the wonderful weather today by going on a walk this morning. We stopped in a grassy area to pick up “whirligigs” aka “helicopters” aka maple seeds, which we plan to explore in some projects next week.

Later in the afternoon friends were excited to see a huge truck deliver some concrete for the backyard!

Watching Tami and Charles work continues to be a source of interest for our friends. The construction inspired Daniel to create this drawing of tools:

WF Thursday 5/21 The Wee Friends Barber Shop

At Wee Friends it is fairly common to hear friends request that their hair be brushed,  braided or put into ponies. After several friends asked that their hair be done this morning, we decided to take it one step further and open up our own barber shop!

Our inspiration:

022

Owen wrote us a sign. Then we set up chairs and gathered our materials: water spray bottles, combs, brushes, towels and a big bag of hair clips.

035

The Wee Friends Barber Shop was open for business!

040

Cassie and Miss Jessica were the first two customers, but soon more friends stopped by to have their hair done too.

049048

Friends shared water bottles and combs, taking turns working on different hairstyles. Squeezing the sprayer and controlling a comb was great fine motor skill practice. Many friends shared stories of times they had been to a barber shop or hairdressers.

052

I’m sure we will be doing this again soon!

This afternoon the main attraction was watching Tami and Charles work on the backyard.

094

There were many tools to see in action!

093

Have a great day. –Jessica

Wee Sprouts: Red, yellow and orange bell peppers. Breakfast: Flax Plus Raisin Cornflakes and fresh pear slices. Lunch: Cheesy brown rice, peas and oranges. Snack: Hummus on rice cakes.

Good Afternoon!

Friends were ‘up in arms’ this morning as Maya looked out the window and saw a cat walking around! All of her friends hustled to the window where they talked to the kitty. We LOVE getting to see animals.

It was nice to get some fresh air this morning.

IMG_8516IMG_8519

Anna’s older friend, Ellie from WF, helped her around the yard today. Anna was very happy to come outside after her nap Smile.

IMG_8526

The sibling combos of Tate and Sloane along with Lucy and Elliot worked in the pea gravel this morning filling up buckets. They transported their buckets throughout different areas of the pea gravel, finally ending up in the log house!

For breakfast, children had english muffins with butter and cinnamon with pear/strawberries. Lunch consisted of brown rice with cheese, tomatoes, and blueberries/strawberries. We finished EVERTHING for lunch! PM snack was cheddar cheese and pretzels.

Have a great night!

WF Wednesday 5/20

Today was an active day!

This morning we prepared for our farm trip by exploring animals, their names and the colored masking tape.

113

While the big kids were at the farm, we were happy to spend some quality time outside in the sunshine, sorting rocks, riding cars and filling buckets to water the garden!
