Good Afternoon!

It was an absolutely gorgeous morning. Maya and Tate went straight for the bikes! Maya and her friends always attempt to ride the bigger bikes. It’s great when children push themselves outside of their comfort zone. This is where learning happens (among many other places Smile).

Nahla helped Miss Jessica plant a few seeds this morning. We’re anxious to see the vegetables that will grow soon!

Something that started out as simple and easy turned into a great musical lesson! A piece of grass was used to make high and low pitch sounds. What started out as a few friends listening in quickly became a group of ten. Nature items can be used for a number of things! This is where creativity is born!

It was a sibling kind of morning. Tate and his older sister Sloane love getting to spend time outside together while Anna’s big brother Owen ran straight up to her when she came outside.

For breakfast, children had cinnamon raisin bagels with butter and banana. Lunch consisted of egg and cheese rollups, corn, and watermelon. PM snack was peaches and crackers.

Have a lovely night!

WF Wednesday 5/13

We love to spend time in our backyard, as the outdoors is an incredible place for learning to naturally occur. Nature encourages observation, exploration, and movement.

Each day, there are new things to see: a bush that has bloomed, a leaf that has fallen. Soon we will have plants to watch grow!

There are always new things to hear: birds tweeting, rocks smashing, sand pouring. Today Mindy showed us how blowing on grass can make some HILARIOUS noises. This drew a huge group of friends, laughing with every sound.

048

Our backyard also lets us experience new tastes. Today we harvested some rhubarb from our garden, which we are planning to use in some recipes this week.

We’ll let you know how it tastes! –Jessica

Good Afternoon!

It was a sensory filled morning as kids worked with shaving cream!

IMG_8066IMG_8070

Friends enjoyed taking it in their hands and moving it around. Tate squeezed his hands so that the shaving cream burst through his fingers. He laughed which caused all of his friends to join in!

IMG_8072IMG_8085

We went outside after bundling up. It was a little chilly! A friend from next door shared her chalk with her friends. Maya commented about how big the chalk was.

IMG_8106IMG_8111IMG_8124

For breakfast, children had blueberry Kashi and banana. Lunch consisted of english muffins with melted cheese, blueberries, and mixed vegetables. PM snack was string cheese and pretzels.

WF Monday 5/11

Here at Wee Friends we don’t mind a little precipitation—it makes for better grub hunting! Today friends scoured the backyard, turning over stones and logs, searching for worms and roly polies.

011019

Once we found what we were looking for, we had to show other friends too.

025

In other exciting backyard news, a bird family has chosen one of our hanging gourds to make a nest in!

008

We hope the birds stay put and we can watch them grow, just like our Wee Friends.

Dandelion Honey Bread filled our senses, our classroom and our curiosity. With dandelions plucked from the farm, friends measured, stirred, examined and smelled a dandelion bread recipe to the oven. It will be shared at snack, so don’t forget to ask your WF about his/her experience!

Staff News: We want to share that a paper Jessica wrote about her experience in Teach For America has officially been published. Her piece, The TFA Bait and Switch: From “You’ll Be Making a Difference” to “You’re Making Excuses,” is the opening chapter in the book Teach For America Counter-Narratives: Alumni Speak Up and Speak Out, coming out in June.
