Happy Friday!

**It’s crazy to think about what we’re almost to September! This being said, WWF will be closed Monday, September 1st for Labor Day. Thanks!

Today, we bid farewell to Naia as she makes her way across the bridge come Monday. She’s thrilled to be making the transition as are her older friends next door. We’ll miss you Naia, Dennis, and Jaime!

Good Afternoon!

Our morning started off with a lovely walk! Nora, Lucy, and Saskia bundled up with jackets. It was a little chilly as we started off but then it began to warm up.

IMG_3695IMG_3696

Friends spotted a few squirrels along with a giant excavator that we stopped and watched a little bit. We also heard a lot of doggies barking! Nora let us know, “Puppies, Mindy! Puppies!”

Once we got back, we went right towards the books. Lucy sat with her brother Elliot and looked at a clock book.

IMG_3736IMG_3759

Elliot and Lucy’s Nana was here for a little while this morning. We loved it that she was able to read us a few stories! Smile

This afternoon, friends partook in a little music action. Between music playing through the speakers and our musical shakers, we had some awesome music streaming throughout the house.

For breakfast, children had eggs with grapes. Lunch consisted of ham and cream cheese roll-ups, watermelon, and cucumber. PM snack was thin rice cakes with hummus and strawberries.

WF Thursday 8/14

Eren and his new Wee Bud were the first friends to arrive today. We knew exactly what to do to support their current interest.

Out came the vinyl road map and trucks. Out came Truck Bliss.  Later, we engaged other friends with a science experiment asking the question: Which car will go down the ramp faster? The car on the high ramp or the low ramp? We read Duck in the Truck (Jez Alborough)and Where’s My T-R-U-C-K (Karen Beaumont and the inspired illustrator, David Catrow)for our older, stringing together letter sounds, peeps.

Jessica continued the letter exploration at the piano, teaching friends which letters lay across the keyboard. And what sounds those letters make. A-B-C-D-E-F….G?

In another part of the classroom, a different transportation vehicle was set in motion. S-H-I-P. We added an ocean. “But if it’s green it’s a swamp”  Owen clarified. Stormy and then calm swamp music played as friends worked together.

Elliott’s Nana Vida came and weeded our garden. G-R-A-T-I-T-U-D-E. We love when Elliott’s former first grade teacher Nana comes to visit us. So does Elliott.

Hello!

While outside this morning, Saskia and Nora whipped up some yummy ice cream for their friends! Pretend play extends outdoors where friends can play make believe using the elements of nature.

IMG_3625IMG_3634

Lucy tried to balance on the rock while Nora, Maya, and Saskia pretended they were in a jungle!

IMG_3645IMG_3647

We love that the inside activities can extend outside such as story time. Friends love to sit on the bench or on the ground and open up a good book.

IMG_3660IMG_3658IMG_3668

During naptime, Tate read many books with the help of Miss Jessica! We’ve found out that Rosemary loves to throw balls across the room Smile.

IMG_3685IMG_3691IMG_3693

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and cinnamon along with raisins. Lunch consisted of hummus on tortillas, banana and PPC peaches, and broccoli. PM snack was blueberries and fresh mozzarella cheese.

Have a great night.

WF Wednesday 8/13 Max’s Graduation Day

Happy Graduation, Maxwell Howk!

Max was a wee infant when he joined the Wee Friends family. When Wee Wee opened in 2010, Max was a part of the First WeeWee Class. He has watched the Wee world grow, as we have watched him grow. Don’t let Max’s quiet nature fool you. He notices everything. Like his other Wee peers, Max’s brain is a sponge and he leaves us a voracious and advanced reader and a math wiz. When we observed  Max add up double digit numbers, in his head, we supported his math journey and celebrated his love of numbers.

Max loves books. The Magic Treehouse Books were a highlight this year. His interest in this series was contagious. He made it to #52.

Max is a soccer buff. Ask him about any soccer team and he can give you stats and players name.

Max is a good friend to others.  He helps other friends learn letters and string together sounds that make word. He works with friends at identifying numbers. He listens to his friends and contributes ideas. He is comfortable both leading and following other’s interests. He is a quiet and thorough and confident leader. He enjoys his WF jobs: setting up cots, Song Starter, Mat organizer, Table Top Supervisor.

We want to thank Amy, Chris and Isaac. Your contributions to our school are too many to name. You have supported the vision of Wee Friends, the teachers, parents and the students. We are so grateful for all the ways you have been a part of the Wee Friends family. We will miss you so much!

Max: Come back to Wee Friends and see us and share with us moments in the incredible learning journey that awaits you.

We’ll be here.

2+4+3=

WE LOVE YOU.

Good Afternoon!

Since it was quite the rainy morning, friends decided to spend most of their time on the habitrail and in the gross motor area. We sure expended some of our energy!

IMG_3547IMG_3548

Children had the opportunity to paint this morning. Friends stood at the easel where they worked with different colored paints.

IMG_3554IMG_3558IMG_3567

Lucy wanted to paint as well but she enjoyed painting the easel board instead of her paper Smile.

IMG_3571IMG_3561

IMG_3573IMG_3575

This afternoon friends worked with the sensory circles. A couple of our friends stepped on the circles with their feet which felt a little funny.

IMG_3588IMG_3598IMG_3600

For breakfast, children had chex and grapes. Lunch consisted of scrambled eggs, tortillas, peas, and cantaloupe. PM snack was string cheese and bunny whole grain crackers.

Have a wonderful evening.

WF Monday 8/11

If Wee Friends was a road map, we would have clocked a lot of miles this am. The teachers began with a planned route (Table Manners! Let’s Go to the Library!), and some friends were interested….for a while….but mostly, friends chose their own paths,  interested in creating their own works and choosing how to spend their learning and playing time. So on this rainy Monday, we threw out our map, and followed their footsteps. And we were happy.
