Happy Thursday! (Already?!?)

Today we say “Happy Birthday!” to our friend Naia! She turned two years old today! Smile

IMG_0419

Miss Melinda started off the morning with a little ‘follow the leader’ using shakers. We shook the shakers by our knees, belly, and arms! Friends listened so intently!

IMG_0392IMG_0406

Miss Laurie stopped by with Celestia (one of her many puppets). She had a cold and couldn’t talk very well. Lets just say that some of our friends were a little weary of a puppet who talked. Tate, however, enjoyed the closeness and conversation that Celestia had to offer. The longer they stayed, the more we accepted her Smile.

IMG_0409IMG_0413

Nora let everyone know that, “I love sun hats!” while Tate and his sister Sloane had some one on one time on the bench outside.

IMG_0432IMG_0436

There was not a cloud in the sky this morning. A few of our friends sat on the swing to take it all in.

IMG_0465IMG_0438IMG_0447

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and banana. Lunch consisted of rice with black beans, apples, and corn/green beans. PM snack was Colby Jack cheese and pears.

Good Afternoon!

To start off our day, Saskia and Lulu headed into the kitchen where they worked with shaving cream. They got quite messy! There was shaving cream everywhere. We had fun though! Smile

IMG_0264IMG_0266

Naia, Lulu, and Saskia worked with one another this morning while outside. A friend requested to get the Legos out. Naia built a tall tower! Saskia and Lulu built cars and drove them around the deck.

IMG_0272IMG_0274

Today was Saskia’s first attempt at climbing to the top of the log house. It was a success! She was so proud. It is an awesome feeling to see that smile on a child’s face when they achieve such an awesome goal!

What a fab farm trip. We kissed toads, shoveled horse poop, held chicks and bunnies, watched newborn lambs cuddle next to Mommy and rode a pony. Not a drop of rain fell upon us.

018

Before we left for the farm, we sat in a circle and wrote our own version of Old McDonald. (Have YOUR Wee Friend make up his/her own verses of this published, alternative version of Old McDonald.

Old McDonald had a cat,
It ate his furry, winter hat.
Old McDonald had a goose,
It ate his can of apple juice.

Old McDonald had a duck,
It ate his new, green, pick-up truck.
Old McDonald had a cow,
It ate ten bags of puppy chow.

Old McDonald had a horse,
It ate his rubber boots, of course.

Old McDonald had a pig,
It ate his sister’s brand-new wig.

Old McDonald had a dog,

It helped Miss Laurie write this blog.

Friends dabbled in coloring with markers as well as chalk on the chalk board and concrete.

IMG_0174IMG_0177

Lulu loved reading stories outside today. Many of our friends joined her throughout the morning.

WF Tuesday 5/27 Emerson’s Pies

Reminder: Tomorrow (Wed 5/28), Tami will taking Farm Group A to Prairie Winds: Finn, Elizabeth, Marta, Max, Elliott, Sophia, Sloane, Ellie, Owen and Aislinn.  9:30 departure.

013

Emerson, our new WF who will be joining us in a couple weeks, has been visiting each Tuesday. Last week, when she saw our rhubarb, she asked “Can we make  a pie?”  Several friends joined Emerson in last week’s pie work. Today, she was ready to make another pie. So out we went, a few friends, to harvest rhubarb. Most of today’s exploration centered around the sensorial delights of squishing the rhubarb and apple around the bowl, then piling the mixture onto the tortilla. Each friend chose a shape to carve in their crust, to identify their pie coming out of the oven. The rhubarb leaves seem as big as elephant ears. Outside, friends continued to squish, rip and fly with them.

Help yourself to the bounty of our community garden as it grows!

Happy Tuesday. –Laurie

Good Afternoon!

This morning Lulu and Nora sat outside and colored with markers. It was a wonderful day and we took full advantage of it. We love bringing the indoors outside.

IMG_0034IMG_0035IMG_0036

Our one year olds are on the go, go, go. We’re starting to walk and becoming more sure of ourselves.

IMG_0078IMG_0082

Lucy played a game by herself for a while. First, she put all of the bean bags into the wooden basket. Then, she held the basket up in the air and dumped them out. She did this over and over again Smile.

IMG_0098IMG_0099IMG_0110

For breakfast, children had chex and banana. Lunch consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches, mixed vegetables, and strawberries. PM snack was animal crackers and raisins.

WF Thursday 5/22 Potato Creek and the Wee Garden!

The Wee Garden is in! Everyone has worked hard this week planting our seeds and our starters. Now we will weed, water and watch it grow.

011

“Animals die for lots of reasons, but here in the park, they mostly die because they’ve been hit by a car.” –Tim, Interpretive Naturalist, Potato Creek

And so began our tour! The fantastic Tim shared many animals who had perished and been preserved in different ways: skinning, cleaning the bones of flesh and preserving in liquid. Knowing that Wee Friends have been exploring taxidermy, he spoke at length about the process and our friends were captivated.

Questions for your Wee Friend about today:

  1. 1) We used newspaper to stuff our animal. What does Tim use to stuff his animals?
  2. Which animal was turned into a puppet?
  3. What are the eyes made out of?
  4. Are the teeth real?
  5. Tell me about the snake in the jar.

After our time with Tim, we crossed the street to the park, played and snacked.  A fantastic culminating experience for our taxidermy study. But stay tuned for the Paper Mache alligator in the works.

Have a great day and keep your eyes on road. There are lots of critters out there this time of year. –Laurie

Breakfast was Puffin Cereal and bananas.  Wee Sprouts were cherry tomatoes.  Lunch was ham and cheese on whole wheat bread, fresh strawberries, and sliced cucumbers.  Snack will be deliciously sweet Purple Porch Mangos and rice cakes with cream cheese.
