WF 4/16 Wednesday Nests

A quick reminder that Wee Friends will be closed this Friday (April 18) in observance of the holiday weekend. Thanks so much!

006

This morning, Sloane brought some sparkly colored hard boiled eggs to school. After she showed her friends, and explained how fragile they are, friends were invited  to create nest baskets.

010

We brought our reimagined bat cave outside and chopped hay to add to our duck nest.

055

We brought our bird nests (gourds) in and started to repaint them for this year’s spring birds.

041

We listened to Danny Kaye’s spectacular rendition of “The Ugly Duckling” and then looked at ourselves in a pond. “What do you see?” we asked.

043

Hope your day is filled with comfort!-Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Broccoli. Breakfast: Oatmeal and bananas. Lunch: Brown rice with spinach salad with Yogurt Ranch and bananas. Snack: Cottage cheese and fresh strawberries.  All our fruit and veg today is Purple Porch.

Good Afternoon!

**Last week into this week, we’ve had a couple bugs going around. One involves a stuffy nose and bad cough (welcome spring!) and we’ve also had a couple cases of the stomach bug. A couple symptoms have been vomiting and fever. Hope this passes us by quickly!

Apparently, it was one of those ‘spit your tongue out’ sort of days Smile.

While the babies were off in dream land, Lulu and Eren explored ‘clean mud’ which is a concoction of toilet paper, borax, and ivory soap!

IMG_8307IMG_8319IMG_8317

Lucy and Henri had a blast putting rings around their bodies and then trying to get them off. Getting them off served to be the more difficult part!

IMG_8338IMG_8334IMG_8335

For breakfast, children had kix and banana. Lunch consisted of cheese and turkey filled tortillas, purple porch co-op watermelon and green beans (YUM!). PM snack was cottage cheese and raisins.

Have a lovely night!

WF 4/15 Tuesday The Ugly Duckling

Today was the last swimming lesson for this session!

Don’t forget to indicate (on the flyer hanging on the entry doorframe) if your Wee Friend is going to enroll or re-enroll. Thanks so much!

Friends began their day snapping our green beans from the purple porch.

002

When they swimmers departed, Mel re-read fabulous classic Hans Christian Andersen tale, The Ugly Duckling and then invited friends to the art table to turn ugly wooden ducks into beautiful works of art. Another small group of friends, reimagined the bat cave and got to work creating a duck nest.

025

We’ve enjoyed talking/learning about all different sorts of eggs. Chickens Aren’t the Only Ones by Ruth Heller showed us animals of all kinds that lay eggs.

038

Have an eggcellent day. Heehee. Quack quack.

Wee Sprouts: PPC (Purple Porch Co-op) English cucumbers. Breakfast: Cereal and PPC apple slices. Lunch: Melted cheddar and chicken on tortillas, PPC roasted green beans and PPC watermelon. Snack: PPC celery and peanut butter.

WF Monday 4/14 LIFE

053

Sleeping earth, be gone! We are STILL looking for signs of spring life! And today the exploration took shape in a conversation about an egg. What shape is an egg? How do you like to eat an egg? What is inside an egg? So we headed to the island to answer these questions.

026

We fried, scrambled and hard boiled an egg. How are they different? How are they alike?058

We hunted for oval shapes on our playground.

Inside the shell of our Wee World, we are BURSTING WITH life! We are watching and listening closely to the earth…starting to crack here and there….waiting to BREAK OUT!!!!

Enjoy this day. – Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers and carrots. Breakfast: Kix and bananas. Lunch: Whole wheat penne pasta with cream cheese sauce, apple slices and corn. Snack: Cheese and crackers.

Happy Friday!

Today was all about the outdoors. With lower numbers, we decided to go on a walk! It was such lovely weather today. We just HAD to take advantage of it Smile.

IMG_8207IMG_8208

After getting our jackets on, we looked at our new flowers out of the window before we left! Eren said, “Wow! They’re beautiful!”

IMG_8209IMG_8210

And…we’re off!

IMG_8213IMG_8214

We were all very relaxed on our walk. Besides seeing numerous cars, squirrels, and birds, we saw a police car! The police officer slowed down to say hi to us. He even turned on his lights so we could see. Friends were steady as a rock as he honked his horn Smile. When we were almost home, we also saw the mail lady! We stopped to say hi.

IMG_8215IMG_8216IMG_8217

The outside trend continued once we got back to WWF.

IMG_8227IMG_8233

We love releasing energy.

IMG_8235IMG_8256IMG_8255

Once our bodies started getting tired, we came inside to have lunch! We had eggs with cheese on whole grain english muffins, mixed vegetables, and fresh pears.

IMG_8264

For breakfast, children had kix and banana. Afternoon snack was rice cakes with cream cheese and raisins.

We hope everyone is able to enjoy outside time this weekend! See you Monday!

WWF, 4/10/2014

Hello!

We sure did feel the wind outside this morning. As a rough wind started up, Nora put her hands out so she could feel it!

IMG_8138IMG_8143

As Eren was riding the new balance bikes, he said, “I really like this bike!” Our friends are sure becoming vocal and letting us know how they feel and what they think. (SmileSmileSmile)

IMG_8145IMG_8152

A couple of our friends used chalk this morning. We mostly focused our time at the chalk board. Eren kept trading in his current piece of chalk for a new color!

IMG_8171IMG_8173IMG_8174

For breakfast, children had english muffins with butter along with oranges. Lunch consisted of ham and cheese with whole wheat bread, amazing red peppers, honeydew melon, and strawberries from Purple Porch! We LOVED them! Afternoon snack was pretzels and string cheese.

IMG_8195IMG_8197

Have a fantastic night!

WWF, 4/9/2014

Good Afternoon!

It was a lovely, sunny, jam packed morning. Henri enjoyed playing in the kitchen (it’s his favorite spot). Eren read a story to Lucy while other friends listened to a teacher book being read.

IMG_8057IMG_8062

Self regulation at this age is continuing to grow day by day. Maya put her head down on the carpet which let everyone know she was tired Smile. She just needed a quick break before she played a little bit longer before her morning nap.

IMG_8064IMG_8066IMG_8065

It was surprisingly warm this morning. We went out with hats and gloves on but those soon came off!

IMG_8070IMG_8078

We are LOVING the new bikes that Miss Tami got for all of us. Eren and Nora worked diligently this morning on her balance bike. They don’t have any pedals so we have to work really hard at keeping our balance while moving forward!

IMG_8080IMG_8069IMG_8086

Taters explored the backyard some more.

IMG_8095IMG_8102

He found a new hide out: the log house!

IMG_8120IMG_8119

For breakfast, children had malt-o-meal and blueberries. Lunch consisted of whole grain rice with cheese, mixed vegetables, and banana. PM snack was raisins and graham crackers.

From Maya and Tate (and every other WWF), have a GREAT night!

(We love hugs.)

IMPORTANT: Siblings Expectations

Dear Parents,

We would like to communicate some important changes for the beginning of our day and the end of our day transition times. More than any time in the past, we have a large number of older school age siblings entering into both classrooms and WF preschool siblings entering into the WWF classroom.

We have found that the addition of these siblings multiple times each day is disruptive to the peaceful environment that we are trying to cultivate for ALL of the children.

Additionally, we need to note that when your child’s classroom is outside during pick-up times, our indoor classroom is closed (including the habitrail and all interest areas.) AT NO TIMES ARE WF/WWF CHILDREN OR THEIR SIBLINGS ALLOWED TO BE UNSUPERVISED INDOORS WHILE THE GROUP IS OUTDOORS.

We are setting some sibling guidelines that we anticipate will alleviate this.

1. If you are entering our environment with a sibling, please:

a. Keep them by your side in our INSIDE and OUTSIDE environments.

OR

b. Inside WF they can choose to use the bench in the front porch.

c. Inside WWF they can choose the brown chairs in the WWF housekeeping area.

d. Outside, they may choose the deck or a bench.

2. Please do not leave preschool age or younger in the car unsupervised. Please text us or just let us know while you are at the door (where you can see your sibling) and the teaching staff will be happy to ready your child while you are watching at the door.

3. If you have children in both classrooms, we will be happy to let the second classroom know to have your child ready to go for you.

To be clear, we are asking that older siblings not enter into indoor or outdoor play because they do not know our classroom expectations and they create a frenzy of activity during this critical transition time. This will enable our teachers to prepare our WF/WWF’s for a peaceful beginning or end to their day. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this.

I am open to other suggestions that you may have to make this transition time smooth for you!

Thanks,

Tami
