They went straight to our lunch table along with watermelon/cantelope and toasted whole wheat English muffins with cheese.

We worked with letter stampers and Play-Do creating our names.

Alma shared her Family Tree Leaf this morning! We learned about grandparents in Israel and saw the letters of her name in Hebrew! We learned that she loves Bach, bananas and riding in airplanes! Melinda also shared her Leaf. We learned that she was on the Homecoming Court and rode in a race car!

048We filled a picnic basket with items that moms, dads, sisters, brothers, grandmas and grandpas might use and guessed “Who Does This Belong To?”

Have a great start to your week!

Our WWF’s had a make believe Sushi and raisin party yesterday afternoon. This turned into a very elaborate event! Finn and Umi began with something very simple that everyone joined in and elaborated on. What better way to spend an afternoon? Today Sloane and Sydney made breakfast and tea for Miss Lisa.
These two gals definetely have a future in waitressing! Finn requested his favorite song, “BINGO.” Elizabeth and Marta had a great time jumping from our jungle gym. We incorporated some counting not only in English, but Spanish as well.

It is time to give a special thank you to Marty’s daughter, Bree for helping us out in the afternoons. Lets just say that the “apple does not fall from the tree.” she has been a real asset to us, and has done a tremendous job!
As she has a strong interest in the Culinary Arts, she has done a wonderful job sharing her talents with us. Please join us in thanking her for sharing her wonderful gifts and talents with us.
As I am sure you know by now, Alma has graduated to WF’s. Though we are happy for her, we will not only miss her, but her wonderful mom and dad as well. We wish Alma all the best, as she has been with us since we opened.
Due to the heat index, we will be staying inside today. To make specially fun, today Marty fixed a very yummy fruit salad that we will be eating at snack time.

Everyone keep cool and enjoy the day!

Regards, Lisa, Marty, and Paulina

Happy Monday to all!

This morning Miss Lisa read, “I’m a little teapot.” After reading it, we acted out the book, then had a pretend tea party. Some of our girls even wore party dresses for this event. We then sang one of our favorites, “We all sing with the same voice,”” and danced to the CD.
After major sunscreen applications, it was time to turn on the beachball sprinkler. Today we incorporated learning colors while doing this. We also acted like flowers, growing as we got wet. This is helping to learn how our harvest grows. Sydney and Sloane watered our flowers today. Some children worked with letter puzzles and tempera painting while inside. Miss Marty offered pony tails to the children who wanted to get their hair done today. Little babies were kept inside this morning due to the excessive heat.

For lunch we had whole wheat pasta and fruit salad. Yes, you read that correctly! The kids loved it. We also had yogurt and corn.

Make it a great day! Regards, Lisa, Paulina, Marty and Amy

WWF Daily Explorations, Friday 7.15.11

This was a great morning! We put out pretend fires in our log cabin house, made a feast in our playhouse, sang songs, and watered our garden plants and flowers.
For lunch today we had egg salad on wholewheat bread, garden salad, and a fresh mixed fruit salad. It was delicious!
This afternoon we will play some matching and “I Spy” games outside.
Enjoy the weekend.

Lisa, Paulina, Marty and Amy

WWF Daily Explorations, Thursday 7.14.11

Good afternoon!

Today WWF begun their day painting. We used the colors purple and orange to reinforce color names and and the exploration of color mixing. We used rollers, tongue depressors and fingers as painting tools. Children came up with their own ways of using these tools creating lots of different textures on their papers.

Outside WWF spent time watering the garden, riding their bikes, playing in the sandbox and comparing their bellies!! 🙂

For lunch they had fresh green beans from our garden, cheese and tuna quesadillas and bananas.

Today’s story time was special!!! Chris, Marty’s husband, was here and read several stories to the children. They enjoyed his company and gentle but fun reading style.

Miss Lisa is still out, we miss her! and would like to thank Chris and Brianna for their wonderful help yesterday and today.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Paulina, Marty, Lisa and Amy.

WWF Daily Explorations, Wednesday 7/13/11

Wee wees or puppies?
Our wee wees have a new interest. Since they arrived this monday they have been playing dress up with the dog and cat suits. Several times a day they ask for help from the teachers to put their costumes on and go on with their brand new games. Assisted by a teacher they are exploring the world of pet animals and their babies. We are discovering what makes a pet happy, what are their needs, the things they like to do, their moves and their sounds. This morning when the older kids came out and noticed the wee wees’ puppy pretend play they joined in, pet them and fed them and asked them to do some tricks!!!
Our infants are having a lot of new developments these days. Some have joined the walkers and some are just about to do so. Practicing hard and observing their older friends intensely to learn. Blowing raspberries is another very popular trick these days as well as making funny sounds while singing and tapping on their mouths. The last ones are so much fun to do that even the oldest wee wees like to joins in!
What can we say, It is so nice to be back !!!!!
We are wishing a fast recovery to Miss Lisa who is out sick today.
Have a wonderful afternoon!

Paulina, Marty, Lisa and Amy.

WWF Daily Explorations, Tuesday 7.12.11

Oh, the warmth of the summer sun! A special thank you to those of you who brought in a swimsuit. For those of you who did not as of yet please do so. We had fun using our big paintbrushes in water buckets this morning. We painted everything possible. We also played in the beachball sprinkler and colored with chalk.

We harvested lettuce, green beans and snap peas from our garden. We had hummus on wholewheat bread with fresh cucumber, our snap peas, and cantaloupe for lunch. After lunch we dressed up in our costumes and used our imaginations. What fun.

Just a reminder that pick up time tends to be hectic and sensitive. Please feel free to discuss things with the teacher’s at drop off to find the best strategy for a calm and smooth good bye.

A special thank you to all of our volunteer gardners. We are sure enjoying it.

Make it a great day!

WWF Daily Explorations, Monday 6-26-11

“Clap your hands, clap your hands and stop!”  Today we did a new song learning the concept of stop and go.  This was a big hit with the children.  We also did some tracing of our bodies on a long sheet of paper and then colored them.  This was a great activity for the older children.  We did some harvesting of our garden crops this morning as well as watering our marigolds.  For lunch today we had whole wheat pasta salad,  fresh aspargus, and watermelon.  Just a reminder we will be closed on Friday.  Have a wonderful day!

WWF, Week of June 20th

It has been a great week at WWF!  We have spent a lot of time outside harvesting our garden, tending to our flowers, and when the weather permitted, water play.  We also responded to many fires wearing our new fire hats.

Our new book, “Sam the Fireman,” has really kept our interest.  Beware of the monkeys jumping on the bed, as we have been dancing non-stop to “Five Little Monkeys,” and our slow-fast song.

Be sure to mark your calendar for our annual vacation which begins next Friday!

This week both Paulina and Tami were out on vacation so we were not able to blog daily.  Lisa wrote this blog for Monday before she realized that I wouldn’t be able to post….Our rainy day activities have been keeping us busy, and we sure got our week off to a great start.  We worked with our scissors learning how to open and close them and cut paper.  Painting was also a great activity as we are learning how to dip our brush in the water after using a color.  This afternoon our dramatic play came alive as we were a princess, ballerina, and puppy dog.  For lunch today we had chicken melts on whole wheat muffins with avacado, peas, and cantaloupe.  Alma helped Miss Lisa prepare for our lunch.  Wishing you all a great week!

Enjoy your family time this weekend!

Regards, Lisa, Amy, Marty and Paulina

This has been a teriffic Thursday! This morning Miss Lisa read several stories to the children. They definately have their favorite books, and we are now talking about authors, and what they do.
Paulina, Marty and Lisa did music with all the children this morning too. Finn helped Miss Lisa set the table, he was great at counting the plates and spoons as we placed them on the table.
For lunch we had scrambled eggs with cheese and tomato sauce
wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. We also had peas, corn and watermelon.
Below there is a video of two of our wee wees trying some new tricks on the scooters, enjoy!
