Ruby was very excited to see the fish this morning. Her excitement made everyone else curious!

Maggie’s favorite activity today was the slide. She would stand at the top, laugh, slide down, and then clap when she reached the bottom!

IMG_3548IMG_3551IMG_3552

David worked on his fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while stacking the circles on the post. He was very proud of himself when he completed it!

WF Thursday 4/7/16

*Announcement: Weather permitting, we will be having a WF Garden Prep Day on Saturday, April 16th. We will be clearing out the garden, tilling, etc. in preparation for planting this spring. Any families who would like to come help out are welcome! Exact times to come as the weather forecast gets closer. Thank you!

While the wintry rain/snow mix kept us from going outside again, we were busy indoors. This morning started with an invitation to paint with watercolors. Many children wrote their names on their papers and then got to work, sharing the various colors. Most friends completed more than one piece of artwork!

We ended up with some beautiful pieces of art:

With WF alum Finn visiting for the day, friends were quite excited! Much time was spent building complex creations in habitrail with both wood and plastic blocks.

Everything from boats to hideouts were created!

Today we added liquid watercolor to shaving cream and gave it to our friends to use as fluffy paint!

IMG_3421IMG_3393IMG_3396

They enjoyed using the paint brushes to swish and dab the shaving cream onto the tray.

IMG_3395IMG_3405IMG_3422

They also loved the soft texture of the shaving cream on their hands, between their fingers, and, in some cases, on their face!

Breakfast was Kix and bananas. Lunch consisted of farm fresh eggs, whole wheat flat bread, pears, kiwi, and corn. Afternoon snack was block cheese and graham crackers.

Have a great night!

WF Wednesday 4/6/16

Since the rain has kept us indoors today, the habitrail area has gotten A LOT of use. Older friends worked together to build a unique balance beam. Children of all ages gathered to try it out!

DSCN5139DSCN5145DSCN5132

Later, the balance beam was used as building ground for a car ramp. Wood blocks were set up to create a ramp with a little bit of a slope. Sometimes the cars needed an extra push. This work is a great example of play-based learning—the boys were naturally experimenting with properties of balance and physics through cars and blocks!

The Easter sensory bin was also part of our day. The baskets, purple fuzz, chicks and eggs continue to be a popular activity, even though the holiday has passed.

DSCN5165DSCN5170

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Hot wheat cereal and apple bananas (a unique fruit brought to us from the Purple Porch—interesting to say the least…). Lunch: Egg roll-ups made from fresh farm eggs and whole wheat flatbread, bok choy salad, and bananas/oranges. Snack: Homemade popcorn with butter and apples.

WF, 4/5/2016

Hello!

Friends Rosemary and Anna took rubber bands and placed them on a board. While working on our fine motor skills, children take the rubber bands and stretch them to different lengths so that they are secure on the board.

DSCN5081DSCN5087

Different building materials were used today. The magnatiles ended up being an individual activity where friends worked specifically on something they were building while a group gathered in the habitrail area where plastic and wood blocks were worked with.

DSCN5109DSCN5111

A sensory bin was put on the table for children to explore. Here’s a snippet of what was heard:

“This corn is hard!”

“Why is there a spider in here?”

“Can I have a cup?”

Wee Sprouts: snap peas.

Breakfast: corn chex and strawberries.

Lunch: cheese and refried bean tortillas, kiwi/oranges, and cherry tomatoes/cucumbers.

Our new friend Sophia started today! We would like to give a big welcome to Sophia and her mother Nichole. We look forward to getting to know them both, and to watching Sophia learn and grow!

IMG_3119IMG_3102

This morning, Ruby asked to get out the big blocks. Her friends joined her and they all took turns climbing in and out of them.

IMG_3055IMG_3057IMG_3066IMG_3040

David showed off his cool hat to Franklin. Ruby found one too!

IMG_3078IMG_3144

Emma made a feast for her puppy! David saw her cooking and thought he would help. It’s so interesting to watch them imitate what they’ve observed at home.

WF Monday 4/4/16 Welcome Anna!

Today we welcome Anna to the Wee Friends classroom. We are so excited to have Anna be part of our community. She has already made herself quite at home exploring the environment and joining in some group activities this morning!

DSCN5051DSCN5040

This morning started off with lots of fine-motor work. Children were invited to the art table to work with plastic beads and pipe cleaners, creating unique bracelets. The house was unusually quiet as many friends focused on stringing the beads!

DSCN5049DSCN5048

The pegs and pegboards were also brought out. Some children chose to work with only certain colors of pegs, while others made it their goal to fill the entire board. After completing her creation, Rosemary said, “I made a beautiful castle!”

Kindergarten: Today our kindergarteners and older preschoolers gathered in the science area for a reading of the Magic School Bus book about the solar system. Besides generating lots of laughter, the book also inspired further curiosity about the planets! After seeing a model of the solar system in the book, they decided to create their own. Working together, they created various planets using paper, markers, and yarn. This is an ongoing project (they’re currently working on it right now!) so we’ll post updates tomorrow. Completed planets: the Sun and Mercury.

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Toasted whole wheat bread with butter and fresh oranges. Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with red beans, fresh broccoli/cauliflower, and apples. Snack: Organic whole milk yogurt and homemade cinnamon honey granola.

The time has come to say farewell to our Anna Girl. She will be transitioning over to the preschool site on Monday. She has been with WWF since she was baby and has made our classroom full of laughter, excitement, and pure joy. We will miss her sweet face and personality. However, we know that she will move mountains next door and flourish tremendously.
