Good Afternoon and Happy Monday!I hope you all had a great weekend.

Today we really enjoyed listening to stories. We typically have our favorites that we choose, but today we branched out and listened to many others that we haven’t read in a while. Smile

We then went into the kitchen area and enjoyed a very fun and messy sensory activity.

Shaving cream is one of our fav’s and today while engaging in the cream we “cleaned the table top.” Then made a shaving cream creation on construction paper.

Happy Friday!

We started our Friday off with a special breakfast: homemade whole wheat pancakes! Friends even ate them without all of the yummy toppings (syrup was the most talked about!) and they were able to fill their belly up for an active and engaging morning.

We also were able to try a new vegetable today at lunchtime: kohlrabi! I roasted it and some friends tried it. It wasn’t a total hit but always exploring new foods is exciting!

Children scattered throughout the environment, reading books in the science area (we’ve been intrigued with books about firefighters!) and diving into circle table and art table activities.

Just look at that natural sunlight..and those jackets! We enjoyed the fresh air this morning. It was the perfect morning to explore all of the materials at the art table.

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

I wanted to give a quick food allergy reminder: We have a confirmed tree nut allergy in this classroom, so please when sending foods in with your child keep this in mind as we ask these NOT be brought into the classroom. Thank you so much!

Our gross motor skills were in full force today, inside and outside the classroom. There are different styles of gross motor activities.

The two ways pictured are a great way to get our bodies moving and a great way to work on our getting our balance when climbing and standing on objects.

While building with the ever so popular magnatiles, we can see the many different colors and shapes of the tiles and work on getting the tiles to magnetize to one another.

Friends enjoy building, taking the small animals and placing them in their buildings, and then even at times crashing their creations down. I tend to believe, they enjoy that the most sometimes. Smile

Good Afternoon!

In K group, we read a book that featured two of our favorite characters: Frog and Toad! Throughout the story, I held off reading the words on the page and instead, we looked at the illustrations and brainstormed what the author may write. We associated the illustrations with the words that the author wrote and most of the time, we were spot on!

K.RL.4.1: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

In PREK2 group, children worked with a ‘Shapes Instant Learning’ box. Each child got a specific board that matched their bag. When Miss Kim spun the spinner, they pulled that shape out of the bag and matched it to the correct shape on their board!

During kindergarten sign in, children had to identify the vertices on the shapes that were drawn as well as write the number of vertices next to it! Earlier in the week, we focused on the number of sides of the same shapes.

There were several rousing, competitive Go Fish games that occurred this morning! A few friends were Go Fish newbies so their older friends showed them the ropes and explained the directions during the first round.

Happy Wednesday. What a gorgeous day. Smile

Adrian was excited to dump all of the “snowballs” out of their basket and play with them.

Teachers talk with friends about the differences between these snowballs and the real ones that are cold and wet.

Good Afternoon!

What a FANTASTIC Tuesday!

In K group, we finished our chart where we filled in the vertices that each shape had. We marked where each vertex was on the shapes and then wrote the number next to it. Friends quickly noticed that the number of sides was the same as the number of vertices!

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

In PREK2 group, children had a great conversation about authors and illustrators and what their job is when it comes to making a book! Children used a few specific books for reference.

DSCN0731

Friends quickly came to the art table where they explored shapes by using sticks! This activity was able to be extended for our older friends too. Most children used the sticks to make various shapes such as square, rectangle, triangle, and diamond. The extension was to draw that shape on their paper! Friends chatted about the number of sides that each shape had throughout the activity.

Good afternoon.

Nesta enjoyed engaging in stories by herself this morning. She chose to read…The Little Engine That Could.

While she was reading she would make the choo choo sounds that trains make and laugh after. Smile

Adrian enjoyed engaging in the sensory table. He and some of his friends scooped and poured the corn/black beans mixture into small cups offered.

Good Afternoon!

Our MACK standard this week is:

Children will learn to recognize and name emotions in themselves and others.

This lead our conversation in K group after reading, ‘Quick As A Cricket’. When we got done, friends started immediately sharing, “I’m as tough as a lion!” and “I’m as strong as an ox!”. We turned our attention to the chalkboard where we identified several shapes that we focused on last week. After we identified them, we worked together to count the sides of each shape and document it. Tomorrow, we’re going to introduce ‘vertices’ using the same shapes!

During our journal experience, one of our kindergarteners started writing her description once her picture was completed. When children start writing their letters, they usually write in all uppercase letters—it’s easier to form most uppercase letters than lowercase letters. Last week, we talked about uppercase letters as well as lowercase letters, identifying them as well as writing them. Today, she started flipping her uppercase letters to their lowercase counterpart, without any teacher prompting! Her peers noticed and shared, “Wow! You wrote a lowercase b—great job!”. Learning happens even if we don’t see it right away; children are always paying attention, soaking up conversations and when they’re ready, the new skills will present themselves.

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

DSCN0616DSCN0624

During PREK2, Miss Kim and her group focused on shape identification as well! Once they identified every shape, they worked as a team to draw a line to the correct number of sides each shape had.

DSCN0613

The welcome activity had children matching rhyming word puzzles. Each match had two pictures so friends teamed up to complete the matches! One of the matches was ‘horn’ and ‘corn’ but friends thought that the horn picture was a trumpet! “Trumpet and corn don’t rhyme!”—we had a conversation about how ‘horn’ is a generic term for a specific group of instruments.

DSCN0570DSCN0575

The rest of our morning consisted of magnatile creations, imagination at the art table, and tons of fresh air!
