Good Afternoon I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Smile

Today teachers introduced to our little ones their journal binders. Their binders each have their names on them so friends can start to see their name in print and also begin to pick out their own personal binder to color in with markers and or crayons.

While our Wee Wee’s  are too young to read, we focus on the first letter of their names when they are looking for their particular binder. Friends had a great time.

We then engaged in some gross motor activities to get our bodies in motion since we were unable to enjoy outside time.

Happy Friday!

This week, we’ve been classifying things based on various attributes and deciding if an object doesn’t belong to a group and explaining why. For kindergarten sign in, children had to sort pictures of food into six food groups: bread/grain, fruit, vegetables, meat/eggs, milk/dairy, and sweets. We chatted about what the foods had in common and I asked the question, “What is your favorite food group?” once we were all done. Several friends chose the ‘sweets’ category. One child said sweets but then quickly changed his mind and said, “I like it all!”

K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.

After we read, ‘Rah, Rah, Radishes’ in K group, I had everyone look at three specific food groups and asked if anything looked off. A friend shouted, “Carrots aren’t in the milk food group!”. We saw a few things wrong so we fixed them since they weren’t in the correct food group!

In PREK2, children sorted puff balls depending on their size. They talked about the terms smallest and biggest. To wrap up, they placed several puff balls in a line from smallest to biggest.

What a glorious end to our week, full of smiles and laughter.

Good Afternoon.

This morning we spent some time engaging in playdoh. Smile

This is a fun sensory activity that we all love. We can roll, squish, pound and cut the soft dough for much enjoyment.

Good Afternoon!

In K group, we hit the last text genre: fairytale! Throughout the week, we’ve read a book from each genre: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and fairytale.

Today, we read ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ before heading to the journal table. We also focused on this topic during our kindergarten sign in. One of the questions was, “What is one character you could find in a fairytale?”. A few of the answers that were shared were Beast, Prince, and Princess!

In PREK2, children worked on giving reasons why an item doesn’t belong in a specific group. For example, Daniel had two pictures of bread and a picture of lettuce. He chose the lettuce because the other two pictures were grains!

Children scattered throughout the house, occupying every space! A balance beam was made by a kindergartener for a few of her younger friends while Franklin and Sophia used modeling clay at the art table. Magnatiles have been our favorite building activity lately and today, Daniel and Jack worked together for a while to create a detailed animal sanctuary!

While outside, our babies received tons of love and so did the trucks that were working in the alley! They had several sets of eyes watching them as they worked in their bucket truck! Smile

Good afternoon.

Friends enjoyed painting at the art easel today. We used lovely Fall colors and brushes to create our masterpieces.  We enjoyed this different way to paint  as we typically are at the table. Smile

Good Afternoon!

In K group, we focused on poetry today by reading ‘It’s Raining Pigs and Noodles’. Each child got to pick on poem from the book. Afterwards, we sorted shapes into categories. As we were placing shapes into the correct jar, I heard friends saying, “The hexagon has none!” or “The circle jar has the most!”

This week, we’re using comparison words such as most, few, none, and equal. Within prompting, children use these words on their own as a descriptive word!

When we were done, we identified the hexagon jar as having ‘none’, the circle jar as having the ‘most’, and several different jars that were equal!

K.NS.9: Use correctly the words for comparison, including: one and many; non, some and all; more and less; most and least; and equal to, more than and less than.

DSCN1319

In PREK2, children worked on greater than and less than. There were two numbers that were focused on and they worked together to figure out which was greater than or less than.

DSCN1309DSCN1308

Throughout the morning, the environment started to smell more and more like…red cabbage! That’s because children got a turn to break apart cabbage and place it in a pot. We used the torn cloth from yesterday and dyed the cloth by placing the pot onto the stove. In one pot, the cabbage was mixed with salt while the other pot was mixed with salt and vinegar. Children made guesses as to what color the cloth would turn out in each pot.

We’re anxious to see the results later on this afternoon!

Today we read some Fall stories and engaged in the Fall themed sensory table!

Our Wee Wee’s have started to notice that the leaves are falling off the tree outside and that our air is feeling chillier.  Teachers talk to friends about the different colors the leaves are turning to and why they are falling off of the tree and why our air is chiller.

Happy Monday!

This week in K group, we’re going to be identifying various text genres. Today, we focused on fiction and what makes up a fiction story. We read, ‘But No Elephants’ and throughout the story, children were able to discuss different scenes that allowed us to say, “This is a fiction story!”

A few scenes that children identified as FICTION were:

“An elephant can’t fall through the floor and then carry a house!”

“A woodpecker doesn’t go on your roof and fix it!”

“A bird can’t sit with us and eat soup..”

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy-tales, poems).

DSCN1146

In PREK2, Miss Kim read, ‘Rah Rah Radishes!’ and afterwards, had a discussion about vegetables. They correlated vegetables with ‘healthy foods’ and foods that we should eat everyday. Then, they chatted about sweets and how sweets are different than vegetables.

DSCN1135DSCN1139

The welcome activity attracted several friends. On each laminated square, there were four different numbers. Children identified the numbers and then placed the correct number of puff balls on each circle!
