Good Afternoon!

**Please make sure your child’s labeled snow gear (snow pants, snow boots, gloves, hat, winter coat) is at school by tomorrow morning in case we decide to explore outside! Thank you!

Daniel started off his birthday by receiving a card from his friend, Evie! We hope Daniel was able to have the best 3rd birthday!

We read, ‘Three Cheers for Tacky’ in K/PREK1 and when I opened the first page, N shared, “Hey! It’s snowing in the book too!”

Afterwards, each child solved a specific equation. This week, we’re working on finding an unknown number when the total is 10. For this exercise, we used our fingers—this works well because we have ten fingers! Each child put up the correct number of fingers and had to determine how many fingers were left to make 10. When they came to the right number, they came up and identified the number in a pile and taped it to the chalkboard.

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

In PREK2, Miss Kim gave each child a specific number of buttons. She then took a certain number away, requiring children to count the total number left.

Our snowy morning was full of shapes turned into trees, pegs turned into steps, and piano keys turned into music.

Happy Veterans Day to all of you who are serving, may have served, or know someone special that has served! Thank you all for your service.

Please Note: If you have not signed up for our Wee Texts that notify you of possible closings and or delays, please do this ASAP. Text 81010 and type in @weefr in the message area.

With the inclement weather upon us, when South Bend or Mishawka schools close, Tami will send out a mass text to all letting you know if Wee Friends has decided to either close or delay until 10:00 am.

Today we had fun in the sensory table. We love to scoop with spoons, pick the Indian corn apart with our fingers and use the small cups to hold all of our corn.

We then moved onto some fine motor enjoyment. We manipulated our hands with puzzles and our fun number/peg boards. We can also learn a little math while engaging in this fun activity. We have conversations with the children about how many red pegs they have in a block and if they can find the number of pegs that represents their age.

Good Afternoon!

After reading a few poems in K/PREK1 group, we used singular and plural nouns to complete sentences. For example, one sentence said, “I want do play with Lego/Legos.” Children quickly shared which one was correct. The second part of the activity had children choosing their own noun to complete the sentence. Penny chose ‘cheese sandwiches’ to complete the sentence ‘I have many _________ on my plate’.

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

The activity from yesterday was extended in PREK2. Children each got a turn to roll the dice and when they counted up the dots on their two dice, they identified the number on the paper and added the foam number to it!

Good Afternoon.

Please Note: Now that the colder temps are surly upon us, please make sure your child/ren have the appropriate outdoor clothing. Winter coats, hats, gloves, and warm shoes/boots. Weather permitting, we will go outside on colder days.

We will try and get the kids outside for at least a half hour daily so that we can all get some fresh air and hopefully even some sunshine.

Our friends have really been happily engaged in the dramatic play center this week. Several of our little ones have been pretending to be mommies feeding their babies, along with putting their babies in sleep sacks. Smile

They are even extending their dramatic play with the babies to the outdoor play environment. We LOVE babies. Thank goodness we even have a couple real live babies in the classroom. Smile

Happy Wednesday!

Each morning, the four kindergarteners have their own sign in and today’s focused on how libraries categorize books. In K/PREK1 group, they shared what their sign in was as well as the four books that were the main focal point.

Several children shared that a library sorts books by the author’s last name. We had four books that are our favorites and using a marker, we underlined the first letter in each of the last names. Together, we sorted them based on what letter came first. We read ‘Mortimer’ written by Robert Munsch and before I could even get the question out, someone shared, “We’d go to the M section to find that!”

K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center.

DSCN0327DSCN0329

In PREK2, children worked as a team to match foam numbers to the correct space. Each space had a different dot configuration and each child got an opportunity to match the number to the correct box!

We hope you’re having a terrific day!

Good Afternoon!

Sometimes a child brings a topic into the environment that sprouts an authentic conversation. Today at the breakfast table, N shared, “I went and voted with my mommy!”

Since today is election day, we read ‘Duck for President’ in K/PREK1. N shared her voting experience which consisted of “helping mommy put the paper into the box and then mommy paid for it.” This sprouted several conversations surrounding the following topics:

  • Voting is free! It doesn’t cost anything to vote.
  • “What does an election mean?”
  • You can vote for positions such as:
  • Governor: State
  • Mayor: City
  • President: Country

Penny finished off our discussion stating, “So you vote for things that are really important?”—Yes!

DSCN0241DSCN0245DSCN0237

In PREK2, each child was assigned a specific letter. They had to identify the letter as well as the sound that went with it!
